In 1958 Steve McQueen found himself trapped in the basement of a diner accidentally set ablaze by the police and covered with a giant gelatinous alien. Thankfully with the power of CO2 he was able to escape his tomb. Today you can visit this filming location for the classic 1958 The Blob in Downingtown Pennsylvania at the Downingtown Diner. Unfortunately the original diner is gone, but the foundation the new diner sits on is the same and the basement remains (though off limits to guests). The diner cherishes it’s cinematic history and refers to itself as “The Home Of The Blob” and even offers a few choice Blob themed items on the menu.
