the problem is that it's not a full time or even a year round position so unless you have income from another source it's hard to keep drivers

Time to pay school bus drivers a living wage... They should be paid at least as much as teachers

At least $40 per hour starting and school bus drivers don’t drive all day, maybe 2 hours at the most in the morning and the same in the afternoon or evening except when they take the kids to field trips once in a while.

@@kaipos8601 Clean and disinfect the interior every day after morning and last route and exterior twice a week. $40hr😂I don’t think so😂 Teachers should get paid more. Parents need to teach their kids to respect others people and use common sense.

Why is bus driver shortage a problem? Because the pay is so small. Nobody can make a decent living on this pay.

When you pay your bus drivers $20/hr, its obvious they dont want it. $20/hr is your new average wage that everyone pays and its not enough

This is criminal. How do you expect working households with 2 and more jobs (forced) to still work? Still feed the family?
I don’t even have kids this is maddening.
    Pay a living wage!
    Before and after school
    Care subsidies, day care subsidies.
    The government: have kids! 👌
    CRIMINAL.
Just a question: which routes were removed!?!

It’s not rocket science. Raise the wage if not competitive, lower the standards if any are too much red tape, allow a wider range of applicants, if union issues then non unionize the job. Where there is a will there is a way. Instead of apologizing do something about it.

My thought is do you think the parents jobs will be affected by the loss of time especially in the areas we're they don't have a city bus in the area ? ..And if they choose too drop their kids off early too school is it safe for the kids when idiotic crimes are rampant..🤦‍♂️but go ahead and give all these state and politicians major raises while the dumbing down of kids persist..

The population for the entire state of Hawaii was something around 423,000 in 1940. The population was something around 1,435,000 in 2023. I'm not making any excuses for anyone, but it seems to me like that fact should be considered when we ask why are so many systems struggling to function properly anymore.
Of course, that still doesn't explain where all the dollars go. Which is ridiculous.
Every public school in the world should have to show 100% of their finances to the public each quarter. All public entities should be required to do that IMHO.
