You're right on the money with that comment Doug! I don't think that I will ever grow in anything other than coconut husk for 95% of the plants. The sulfur also seems to have made a tremendous difference. I have no idea whether it killed all of the flat mites, but it knocked them down enough that they don't seem to be posing a problem for me any longer.
Have you considered doing a top 10 Hoyas for the Northeast video? I would love to see which Hoya succeed outside a grow tent in relatively dry indoor winter conditions! I assume you get plenty of humidity through the summer. I've learned so much from your videos. Things the Florida growers can't teach. Old videos show "Hoya lobbii is a top 10 for the Northeast!" Later "It's a monster gotta go." Same for your giant lockii and latifolia dinner plate. 😆 I love when you add updates to your webpage with new advice. I would love to see a top 10 for the Northeast drawing on all your years of experience.
Hi Mary, I will definitely consider your request! As the years go by, my Hoyas come and go, but there are a number of them that I've had for a pretty long time that might be good candidates for such a video. Thanks for leaving the comment and suggestion❣
Thank You so much, Doug, for explaining about and showing us Your beautiful Hoyas. Very helpful in growing tips and all around enjoyable to see these magnificent plants.
New follower, 25 yr hoya grower with one plant grown from a single leaf cutting in the 1979. I have had only one flower, but now I am watching years of your video's. I am so sure that with the help of all your knowledge I will get one soon. I don't think I did anything right, just not all wrong at the same time. My plant is about 12' long. I really love the work you put into your videos and website. Thank you.
It is gratifying to have you as a follower Laura! You have been growing Hoyas for longer than I have, and it is quite a feat to have grown a Hoya so big from such a small start! All my best, and happy growing to you!
Doug the new videos you posted are fantastic! As always I’m drooling and inspired! I’m always adding to my wishlist after watching them! Thanks so much for all you do!!
Hey Doug! It's been a while since we chatted, but I believe your noid hoya is H.sp. Sulawesi No.1. It may have been collected by Surisa. I got mine from Mandy as well!
Hi Jimmy, it has been quite awhile, and I have felt badly that we have fallen out of touch. I have been following some of your amazing growing and flowering on Facebook, and think of you often. I still have so many plants that came from you; too. I wish you the best of luck with all of your eBay sales for the year; it looks like you're off to a fantastic start! Thank you so much for giving me an ID to work with on this plant - it is much appreciated!
@@DougChamberlainVTHoyas Thanks! Just getting started on eBay this year. I will email you soon! Ric may be of some help with your noid. He may have it also!
Inspiring, Doug. Catch you in a few months. RIP my Hoya subcalva. The cold was what did it, I think. Meanwhile, others are stable enough. India IML 1598 is the star. It put on the most growth (apart from H. carnosa).
I feel your pain on subcalva that is for sure! That is why it is good to have several Hoyas, when one kicks the bucket, or is doing poorly, there are others that will shine.
Your pink thomsonii is just a crazy flowering machine, and your stenophylla, a weed. I love the vines growing out of the drainage holes of the pot! You've inspired me to give all these species that somehow never did well for me another try with coconut husk. Wishing you a great Easter weekend.
Thanks, Doug I love all of your hoyas. I can't wait to have my hoyas as big as yours. I will get more hoyas I just have nowhere as many as you do. But maybe someday.
@@DougChamberlainVTHoyas Ya I know what you're saying I think that they are amazing and it is a little bit harder to get them. As I am in Alberta, Canada and I live 3 hours from any major city.
Hi Doug! I'm interested in the trays you put your hoyas on. Did you buy them preassembled or did you make them up? They look like the perfect solution to mine!
There are no trays shown in this video, but I use two types of humidity trays. For my plants on benches in front of the windows that live in the main house I use these: www.amazon.com/Humidi-Grow-Humidity-Bonsai-Orchids-Plants/dp/B01LZYAE3E/ref=asc_df_B01LZYAE3E/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198092200243&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2121076151920731380&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003022&hvtargid=pla-319576769491&psc=1 For the Hoyas in my grow tents, I use a homemade set up using large boot trays from Gardener's Supply Co: www.gardeners.com/buy/jumbo-boot-tray/33-533.html and cover it with closet maid shelving.
Love your videos Doug! I'm looking for a hoya that i know you had. Any chance i could message you somewhere about it? I didn't have any other contact for you ❤

I only sell a few starter, rooted Hoya cuttings per week during the warmer months on eBay. My eBay name is erbtarzan24. They usually go pretty fast, as I don't believe in auctions, so I sell as buy it now, and they are snatched up pretty quickly.
