I’ve been watering my lazy poles from the top straight from the watering can. When the water looks about halfway saturated down the pole, so stop watering. Gravity pulls the water down the rest of the way. I do this every few days and it works great. My poles never dry out. It takes like 10 seconds per pole.
I noticed that if I kept the Sphagnum too moist though, one of my plants seemed to pull too much water (tips started turning yellow). The soil in the pot wasn’t too moist, I’m certain it was the moss so now I let the moss dry a little (but I water well before it is dry) and everything is back to normal.
Such a fan of the choices you made for aesthetics reasons.
I wonder if you would have liked the lazy pole more if you had left it shorter? Adding another layer as required seems easy enough. Mine were tall too but if I give them another try, I start with shorter ones. Like you, I disassembled most of my lazy poles. I like a more finished look. The one I kept was one 3D printer. The circumference is narrow and it is filled with gorgeous roots.
I think the extra roots didn’t hurt your leaf production. They should be helping absorb nutrients. My Monsteras root like crazy while putting out new leaves. But the variegated ones are overall slower.
Excited to see how it goes. Experimenting is so fun.

Interesting :) I don't leave the plastic bottles on the poles, you just turn them upside down and let them water the pole, come back in half an hour and check its got to the bottom, and take the bottle away :)

Hello. Just wondering why you have some plants in water and some in soil. Do you prefer one over the other? Is there certain plants you prefer in water over soil and vice versa?

Actually yes...these so look much nicer than water bottles stuck upside down

How are you liking the Predatory mites? (I see them on your albo) And where do you purchase them from?

What do you think of your terracotta slow-release watering spikes? I bought them also… but I found that they do not release enough water fast enough to keep my poles moist enough. For me, they may work better for shorter poles or directly in soil since my moss poles are rather tall ☹️ 90 cm/3ft I think.

tbh now that I've used it for a bit I do find that it is TOO slow releasing for me - I will most likely transition over to the glass ones later down the road.

Putting a bottle filled upside down will definitely wet the moss pole but will it not result in overwatering of the plant pot

I haven't had this issue, I believe if your moss is already moist then the water would only drip as needed

@@leafletco Actually my moss becomes dry due to atmospheric heat and doesn't easily absorb water but the soil in the pot underneath is already moist so if I pour water on the pole it doesn't absorb water easily and it falls on the pot from side of the pole
