I know that this happened recently, but I am pretty sure Regan Smith broke the 100 back record once again while she was competing in the Olympic Trials. Previously, the record was 57.33 but then Regan Smith swam a 57.13 in the USA Olympic Trials. Meanwhile Kaylee McKeown swam a 57.41. Hope you enjoyed this new and updated information!
I like this analysis so much. Probably the best swim analysis I have heard recently! Can we have similar version for female 200 BR as Kate Douglas started to shine in the recent meet?
Interesting point about the nose clip. For sure, with the other strokes, if you lose oxygen, it is impossible to replenish the oxygen till the race is done. With back stroke, you can breathe as you need to. For me, and I have no idea how others do it, I breath on every arm pull. A short exhale and a quick inhale, but probably half breaths not full ones. I have tried to pick up my stroke rate so I can inhale on one pull, and exhale on the second, but I am never able to keep that pace. Maybe I am just weird.... Okay, I am weird, but what do most backstrokers use for a breathing pattern?
After trying them for a year I'm not a fan of nose clips. I much prefer the ability to cycle out the nose when I'm above the water. In with the mouth on the left pull and out with the nose on the right pull. With the clip it feels claustrophobic. I train a lot of underwaters so a little water up the nose is nothing new. Just push it out once you reach the surface. Especially in the middle of competition you should be able to ignore it.
I don't use them either. I have noticed that when doing my underwaters, that if I am on my back, I exhale more through my nose to keep the water from getting up there. When on my tummy//right side up, I don't have to do nearly as much of an exhale. Physics I guess...
Regan Smith has been looking very good mid-season at TYR Pro meets. But then again, Kaylee McKeown has also been looking really strong. It's definitely a toss up, and even tho I'm obligated to root for Smith, being American, I'm just excited to see what the new WR is gonna be.

Fantastic video!
Glad you liked it!
Agreed.
Thanks for all of this❤
3:48 so we aren't aliens, as I can cover nose and my son, too with upper lip ! 😀 great to know. Always great overall info, thank you.
😂 I also thought I was an alien. But no. Glad it was helpful!

I think it depends on the swimmer and their level. I think most competitive backstrokers breathe just like in freestyle, every two strokes

Mollie's gonna go 57 at trials and then not be able to swim it in Paris.
Watch out for Mollie O'Callaghan
🔥
Nose clips are allowed in official races?
Yes!
