iPhone 10 Years Later: The phone that almost wasn't

- Arguably one of most transformative pieces of technology in the modern era, the iPhone's development was fraught with engineering problems, drama, and extreme stress. Former employees share their stories from inside Apple 10 years ago.
Even as an Android user, you still have to give props to apple and Steve Jobs for truly reinventing the phone. We would probably still be using phones with crappy os's and keyboards.
D Adam android had already in development way before iPhone, sony had also release a form factor similliar to iPhone way before too
no, they advertise it better
Listen doesn't matter who made what before. What matters is that they became the most successful tech company on world. It's doesn't matter if I use them or not is the most recognised name
aidil clearly doesn't know his stuff. Android wasn't even supposed to be a touchscreen OS in the first place. They only changed that after the iPhone came out. It also took them years to get to a point where Android was comparable to iOS and where the phones didn't only use plastic as their body and screen material.
As much as that may have changed now, back then Apple was clearly lightyears ahead.
i never said that android as the first, i am saying other phone manufacturer had already make similliar form factor way before apple
Just imagine Jobs running NASA. "I want a time machine in a week. AND DON'T TELL ME IT CAN'T BE DONE!! IT CAN BECAUSE I SAY SO!!"
I'm wanna be like Apple Computer!
F@#k a Mike!
Interesting to note: most parts were present, just never combined in that way.
And then drop the prototype in water saying: "There is still room to make it smaller".
Yep, and that is what inspires Musk to fuck NASA with Space-X. Now, Musk ain't Jobs, but he is a visionary. It's easy to forget that.
MrCapitalfinal
NASA is an open company, owned by us all, so they are all open!
They shrank a computer too the size of a phone, now phones are slowly growing back to the size of computers 😋
Lmao
Maybe they were just too good at shrinking
Thank you!!!!! 4.7” iPhones are as large as I will ever go! I prefer the 4” SE for pocketing
You speak wisdom.
I'm 55 and seen it all.
😂😂😂
They had no idea how important it was but you know who did? Jobs. That man is a fucking legend
Lol i remember when the iPhone first came out, everyone in my family thought it was so dumb and weird. And that it wasn’t going to succeed (keep in mind, they all had Nokia’s and blackberries).. then i remember the first time my brother ever held the iPhone 2g a year later, and he took the first picture on it, and his facial expression said everything. Every since then, we are a family of iPhones , and could not be happier. Thank you Steve, for being so stubborn and thick-headed.. thank you for literally changing the world, .. all from a phone.
wow u must be pretty brainwashed
TheGsGClan the man just likes iphones
@@TheGsGClan you must be pretty biased and more importantly - broke.
read more or show less your comment remains the same
@@admakesvideos oh yeah... I'm so broke. Literally crying in my Audi TTS right now
Interesting How Steve Jobs pushed people so hard because he knew they were capable of incredible things only when pushed. He was a driving force and it was very uncomfortable for those involved yet today they can be proud they did the "impossible" and changed the world. I wouldn't want to be treated that way unless I knew the guy and trusted him. Sometimes you got to push to get something done.
Yeha well he died, and Bill gates was always better.
Better at what?
R3K9 Steve Jobs was a billionaire that revolutionized the phone and you're here talking shit and uploading Minecraft videos HAHAHAAHA
R3K9 go play minecraft
videonaj of
I wish Steve Jobs was here for the anniversary
Spiffy Virus I don’t! He was an egotistical scumbag of a human being!
Talk about disrespectful Jesus christ
edvaira6891
no u
He was a fucking total fucking monster bastard, laffed like a drain when the bastard died
So does he
And then many years later - when Microsoft tried to shrink Windwos into a smartphone - Lumia was a disaster :D
Wish he was here longer than he was. The iPhone was a revolutionary product for the tech industry. Great video. ❤️
Apple really isn't the same anymore without Steve jobs. Its crazy how so few people can make a huge impact.
Ruben I don't like him. I think he did for the best
Jamal H he died for the best? (I assume that’s what you mean) I mean sure he was hard on his employees but I don’t think that you should wish for anyone’s death. Next time just you wish that said person gets fired or put in prison if that’s the type of thing they did
They should hire young talent.
@e ikr
@Jamal H wowwwww that is rude on a whole bother level
OMG Steve would've killed Tony if he had lost that prototype!
640 that actually happened to the iPhone 4 prototype 😂
8:16 so basically what losing an AirPod for an hour feels like? 😂
May you love it or hate it, Apple did a milestone by selling the 1 billionth iPhone in July 2016.
I remember holding an iPhone for the first time, the way the screen responded to touch, the beautiful images on the camera even though it couldn’t film, the way the screen orientation switched depending on the way you were holding it. It felt incredible, I don’t think I’ve ever felt that way for another technology device. It was truly a remarkable thing and I could feel it.
That's Awesome! Mad Respect to the peeps who worked on the project. We have what we have now b/c of them. Steve Job and the team!
I dislike Apple products, however I do agree that it is because of them lots of people have smartphones in their pockets today - it wouldn't have happened without their dedication. ✌
almost there...... I hope they come with something really good on September
Mr.BLACK & WHITE Ha like what? Removable battery?
NijaBoiTellEm well is not so important a removable battery on this days ........I'm not an iPhone lover just love technology ,I'm actually using a Samsung phone right now
I hear ya. I just don't know what Apple could do to 'up the ante.'
I am waiting for iglasses, Tim Cook said he is really excited about Augmented Reality. I doubt they will this time, but Apple ARKit for iPhone is in the right direction towards the glasses. Also hope it looks something like what Magic Leap is working on 🙂
its just rumors, not confirmed, some say the touch id is in the display and some say its on the back
Even though I'm an Android user I can see how monumental this product was. I don't think most people remember how basic existing smartphones were before the iPhone. Apple managed to shrink a PC into a mobile device and make it both fully usable and not cost an arm and a leg. That was pretty impressive. If you disagree I would advise looking at some of the products made during and before the iPhone and try to compare them. The difference is night and day. And here's what was really important, this device was for everyone, not just business execs.

IT WAS A CLUSTERFUCK.
XD
wow, great insight, I LOVED THIS VIDEO ❤️🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I have enjoyed these for years I am grateful
Great video. Appreciate you created this CNN. 👍🏻
Thank you.
Steve Jobs greatest feat was that he knew how to assemble smart people who shared his vision
and got them to perform at their full potential.
Since he has passed Apple hasn't made anything that is industry changing.
Now all Apple seems to be able to do is upgrade on the existing models.
Better screen, faster CPU, better battery life, better camera. Things of this nature.
I started with Apple and still have an Apple phone because I find it simpler to use.
I also don't need much in the way of a phone. Talk, text and a few photos / videos .
It all boils down to,"to each his own" . What ever floats you boat one could say.
Gillis Danos revolutions don’t happen every other year, stop writing BS
Well Apple did great with the iPad.
@@vdizz I think Tesla revolution started after his death. Elon figured out what Tim Cook couldn’t. Really a Tesla is an iPhone that can take u places a smart robo car but people just don’t see that
Written like an ill-informed child.
😂
When the hardware and software work so well together thats why the iphone has been the benchmark since 2007
If the new iPads, iMacs and iOS 11 are anything to go off then I can't wait for the all new iPhone 8 in September as it will be an amazingly beautiful little powerhouse.
Here I am watching on an iPhone 11 pro 2019. Still amazed from then to what we have now. Imagine if this was the first iPhone that came out back then, where we’d be at today technology wise. Good job Apple I’m definitely a fan of your guys work and Steve’s vision
imagine your azz smells
Steve Job is a OG.
These kinda stories inspire me.
I'm crying.
Wow just wow brilliant jobs and that team are brilliant
When my father bough his iphone 4 people in my family would gather around the device and touch it in amazement.
The touch screen looked like magic, i remember thinking that was something out of science fiction.
I guess we all thought that somenthig that complex and beautiful would never become mainstream as it was just too expensive for a phone and would only be a luxury product.
Such a neat story. Loved the Jobs movie too. I just like iPhones 🤷♀️
We miss you Steve
Salute to those who were involved and reinvented the most remarkable change in the phone history. We missed you, Steve Jobs!
My parents actually printed out maps and directions until I got my second smartphone (which was able to download maps) and convinced them to use this.
I keep reading about Steve Jobs and keep getting mind-blowed, what a damn genius this man was.
No wonder he has so many haters.
Steve Jobs sounds pretty crazy lol.
I intend to own as much as these old things as possible and keep em in working order for as long as I can..smartphone history right here
Here I am...10 years on, watching this on my iPhone
Now i am really expecting a full flash few hrs of documentary on iphobe behind the scenes 😊
Wow I'm watching this on an iphone
Floyd1504 then why are you watching this video
@Floyd1504 chill
You really don’t need to comment like that.
Haha me too iphone 7 😅😅😅
@Floyd1504 hahahaha
So many apple fan boys around here.
Everyone knew touch was the future and Jobs knew he was missing out on a huge market.
What Jobs was bold at was not in creating a touchscreen device. Everyone was trying to do that. He was bold when is made the decision to enter a market that was already saturated and brands were canibalising on each other's sales. Other than that everyone had touchscreen phones in their pipeline and LG even released a touchscreen phone before Apple released the iPhone buy what apple did have was their principle of making hardware and software in house working together seamlessy. So we can say that the iPhone was 20 years in the making and it didn't just happen by mistake or by quickly taking advantage of a niece market. They were the right people in the right position with the right attitude at the right time.
EXACTLY- THE CORE CAPABILITIES OF HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE = GAME OVER! apple was in the right place at the right time
I remember walking past the Apple store and seeing that big cardboard iPhone display. I thought “Man, that is cool as hell.“ I finally got my first iPhone at the end of 2011, The 4s. I still think the iPhone is cool as hell and I still just have the SE. but I also have my iPad Pro. I call them my i’s.
jobs is like jk simons in whiplash
@Alexander Supertramp Except for the fact that Whiplash is an entertainment movie.
Is this the full video or is there more?
Imagine loosing a prototype of a unannounced device. Well there’s always 2010 to think about.
When I saw the introduction of the iPhone for the first time, I knew that most computer related tasks were going to be obsolete afterwards, and for sure my dumb phone was going to eventually be replaced as well.
Imo after 10 years, Steve Jobs would probably have gone far beyond the industry squabbles about screen notches, rear finishes, number of lenses, etc.
the phone that almost didnt change at all!
Miss you Steve. Apple crashing and burning without you
not really
I was 5 years old in 2007.
Basically the iPhone ruined the world and began the social media phenomenon, but I’m using it now ..
Cool it’s been two years now 2019
Gone those days, when they used to do everything from scratch 😐
5:33 All-star team right there
At 8:35 you see that? That’s a port that was on every phone it’s called a headphone jack
anyone notice the active phone call on the iphone behind fogelstien?!
Thank you Steve and the apple team. Re-invented the computer, music player, phone, tablet, watch
I was in kindergarten when this phone originally launched, that's crazy.
Yeah a big thanks to Steve, without him i might not have access to great Samsungs. Cheers! 'clink'
Who still has their original iPhone. And who's still works like new. Mine does ! The thing is a tank especially the 3gs
7:50 ...HENCEFORTH, TONY FADELL WAS NEVER TRUSTED WITH A PROTOTYPE AGAIN, EVER
0:13 what a great way to start any video! 🤣
... watched this on my iPhone 10 in June 2020 😃 ...
So iconic
Calling these devices a phone is not even accurate anymore. It's a feature rich handheld multi-function computer with phone capabilities thrown in.
After hearing this interview, I wonder what Jobs would think of the notch ? :)
Watching this on a XS
Only Steve Jobs can do this, imagine Tim Cook doing this! It will never happen
I thought he was being sarcastic with the initial iphone description lol
I’m enjoying my touch keyboard
Thank you for helping him.
Damn I didn't know Steve would abuse his engineers like that.
TechLiberator You should read his biography!!
Oh I have, a while back.
the Gordon Ramsay of tech
When you're working on something that is going to change the world...you CANNOT tolerate any mediocrity!
no abuse = no revolution = no progress
I love this story. iPhone is revolutionary.. no matter what other companies were doing, this was a complete product of apple themselves
Would have been awesome to be at that keynote.
So sad that Craig didn’t have a lucky demo for the iPhone X
So, .. the world Literally cause Steve Jobs was thick headed and didn’t take no for an answer.... badass
Appke will create great Plastic with Excelent to Touch Plastic that can last long for 5,000$ for Mac and Macbook for Home and Work.
Apple's gotta evolve to keep up with this generation's tech evolution.
SizzlingStorm75 and they are ahead of the game. The s8 and s8 plushas no home button. It’s on the screen and I love it!!!!!
And now the iPhone is going to have an actual infinity display
@@anjai4448 and sadly Apple fanboys will call it innovation when in fact, they are behind.
@@Th33Vultur3 they are a bit behind on some areas but ahead of others like facial recognition, not having a chin
Watching it from my galaxy s 😊 thank you Steve koh
Steve Koh 😂
watching it from my Samsung Note 7
Fuckchop is a hilarious nickname.
Imagine owning a driod can’t relate
Mark my words . This will go down in human history just like the wheel ,cars even electricity how apple changed the way we abundance of information with a few touches .
If gordon ramsay own tech company.
Keyboard are still around
the smartphone market at this point is quite mature and oversaturated. it's the reason why even apple, the company that pushed the fold to begin with, is struggling to innovate. smartphones these days are so damn good that there's just not much else to improve on. Once the next "big thing" comes along the cycle of fresh invention and innovation will begin anew. And I believe it'll be apple to step forward with that product and become the market leader again.
I loved the title fuckchop or fucktard. love it
Had he NOT had the prototype in his car, imagine the things they did NOT come up with
iphone 8??
iPhone 12
My first iPhone is iPhone 7 Plus, yep, I’m slow to changes 😂
Well with apple now they are way behind the time with their phones and their computers are too expensive to be any thing good.
There’s not enough iPhone docs out there.
the price of them is disgraceful every 2yrs a new one. its not like a CD & if the kids haven't got 1 they are being bullied
jody Mc piss flaps who said your bullied if you don’t have one? I have the Xs Max and I’m being bullied FOR having one. Everyone where I live is pretty rich(richest county In the US) and all the kids have 2 yr old phones
I wish they release another 4 inch phone someday in the near future, cause my SE is almost outdated, will never buy larger phablet!
1:20 smallest sip ever
Perhaps Apples next great product will be iDrone? A phone that flies !
Imagine if they never thought of this. The world as we know it would be so different if we didn’t have touchscreen mobile devices.
with the physical keyboard I could type withtout watching the keyboard and with the software keyboard I need to hold the screen for 5 secondes. Don't you dare compare the two technologies again
weird flex but ok
Shame the announcement couldn’t have gone that well 10 years later
6 shots and got hammered 😂
