I've been wanting to submit an article proposal to VideoMaker for quite a while: I have a 2009-ish Sony Z7 HDV camera with an interchangeable lens. With an adapter that lets me use Nikon F lenses I use a Sigma 50-500 zoom on the Z7, with its 7.2x crop factor. That's right - 7.2x! That makes the 50-500 act like a 350-3500mm lens or with Sigma's matching 1.4x TC, about 500-5000mm!!! One item that this video left out is that while the crop factor makes the lens act "longer" it doesn't make it any slower - so the 50-500 turns into a 350-3500 f4.5-6.3. Another less important factor is that the crop factor uses less of a full-frame lenses 'real estate: the image is cropped from the central portion of the image circle - eliminating the edges where most of the distortion and softness comes in.
With the TC the lens effectively becomes about a 100x telescope which is outstanding for mountain goats in Glacier NP, sea otters at Elkhorn slough (when they're not too close for that) and the like.
Yeah, the Z7 is "only" HD but you'll still be hard-pressed to match that telephoto reach with and of the current 4k or better cameras - especially if you add the budget: the adapter from Z7 to Nikon F was about $350 and the Sigma was under $2000 with the 1.4x TC
