Astero is so much fun to fly, if you know what you're doing. I carry a mobile depot and a double scram/web/neut refit to "discourage" scanning competition. Usually by the time I detect someone on Dscan, I am already done with my scanning, so I safe up. Drop the depot. Switch around my modules, and lay in one of the sites like a viper. I think the juiciest kill I've gotten this way was an enemy Astero that was half dead before he knew what was happening. Dude coughed up over 400m in data/relic loot, and a very pretty kill mail.
i've been flying my Buzzard around for far too long. didn't intend for it to be that way, but it scans anything that's out there and it always brings me home. the Astero looks way cooler and i've had one fitted and ready to go for ages. but my Buzzard hasn't let me down yet.
Astero is good if you want to carry a combat fit on the side, and depot at a safe to refit and kill a competing scanner. Buzzard is the best for pure PvE though.
The +4 warp core strength (with WCS) on the Meta is actually massively useful as it forces your potential solo hunters to fit specifically for this ship in order to kill it. It's pretty much the best in slot exploration ship for situations where you expect to be hunted, such as the Winter Nexus events. The Buzzard and the other basic CovOps frigates are best in slot all-rounders for general purpose scanning and hacking. The ability to fit Interdiction Nullifiers and the shorter cloak reactivation delay, compared to Meta and the Astero, is a huge upgrade.. The Astero overall is just a worse version of the Meta as a scanning/hacking ship and only really shines as a cloaky hunter (essentially a frigate version of a T3C).
TC3 whatever your flavor should be #1. What are you doing most of the time while Exploring? Traveling. TC3 travel fit with implants gets you up to 15AU. The quicker you can get thru systems means the more signatures you can scan in less time, and more signatures means more isk/hour.
Absolutely right, and after years of exploration I've recently realized the Proteus with zeugma+blackglass is absolute god tier when you have perfect scanning/hacking skills like I do. I know zeugmas are insanely expensive now, but I had some sitting around from when they were much cheaper (I haven't done explo much at all for a few years). Anyway, the Proteus with the hyperspatial subsystem and three hyperspatial rigs gets you warping faster than a T2 covops (and crucially gets a warp acceleration bonus) *and* can align faster (~2.6 secs) than anything other than an Astero (or the SoCT ships, but those aren't serious options). It only gets three mid slots, but that's perfectly fine when you have a zeugma. Mine is a hybrid combat fit, so it can absolutely waste any small stuff I might run into, and can be completely refit for serious combat if I feel like going on a long adventure with more equipment. I think this video is fine for beginner to intermediate explorers who don't go into null/j-space much (except that he's totally wrong about the Helios - it's second to the Proteus and much better than the Buzzard due to better power grid, speed, and agility), but I guess advanced explorers already know about the zeugma+blackglass combo and the godlike features of the Proteus. Also seems wrong to keep any non-cloaky ships in the S-tier since you want to be cloaky at all times as soon as you have the skills for it, at least in null/j-space (and for that matter you also want/need the nullification option).
Well, your list isn't bad but you're categorically wrong about the Cheetah. For one thing It has the best agility, speed and cargo space. Not to mention it looks the best. Ok that last one might be subjective but it is my favourite even over the Astero which I also like a lot.
Astero should easily be an S tier. It's the best exploration ship until you have level IV/V in an empire T2 imo. And, one of the few ships where you can hunt or defend or push out other exploration ships from sites.
The Astero has a large drone bay too, which means you can be a threat to other explorer ships, as well as you can field a lot of EC-300s if you want to have the option to escape.
Agreed. Nothing gets my goat like being in a Buzzard and sitting next to some guy I COULD kill in an Astero. That said, the Buzzard does legitimately scan faster at higher SP.
I like the Astero more because it can go into small holes, good agility and scan and can kill other explorers, and if the other explorer is in a bigger ship i can warp my 2nd char there... no competition...
Note: For the T1 frigates you can use an Improved Cloaking device rather than a covert cloaking device. If I am exploring in wormholes I always use one.
Very enjoyable video Sir!. I didn't realise the Nestor could do what it can, I've always dismissed it. Now I might just invest in one out of spite lol. If it can scan that fast I'm going to piss off some noobs lol. Hey! I'm a 20 year vet, I need all the help I can get as I'm getting old and hazy 😆

OK, take Nestor off the list and bump Astero to S. Astero can bully any other frigates off the sites and can do low level DED sites and ninja combat gas sites in lowsec. Its' versatility is so good!
While I agree with most of the list and of course it’s your list, the Cheetah should be in the A tier above the Astero because if you fit it right it’s nearly impossible to catch if the pilot isn’t asleep at the keyboard. Easily 3 second align without great skills, scans plenty fast, can nullify and covert ops obviously. It just objectively better than an Astero which you have listed as A tier.
I would have agreed a couple months ago, I loved my Cheetah but one day had some spare cash and got the Astero and now I love it, just handels better when inside a hacking site, can leave the MWD running the whole time and It doesnt stray ouside tech 2 module hacking range, just seems smoother. I know I'm weird but I love my Helios. It's great for hacking, good at quick warping to escape the bad guys, good enough at scanning sites to hack. While I do agree, having good skills, I do tend to pick (outside of the astero) Cheetah, because you can be that much more nimble and adaptive on grid, especially when u're flying in hostile local. But for me ISK isn't a factor, and skills are high enough I don't rly need mid passive upgrade slots.
i love your videos! couple things though: 1) you said twitch, but i dont see a link in the description. if there was one, i would follow/subscribe! 2) are you wearing a curtain?
The problem with Astero is that it can't run a nullifier, if you are doing nullsec explo in hostal space, you are much more likely to die if you come against a bubble gate camp. Any ship that can't fit a nullifier is a no go for me when I do exploration in nullsec.
hmm...I fly an Astero in null for the past 2 years, never lost it to a bubble, very easy to escape bubbles with it :) MWD+ cloak to a clear direction and then change direction to another clear direction and you are soon safely out of that bubble.

link the pinnacle anathema fit please?
I have been looking at the Data sites in FW space to get Prop towers. But most of the time a t1 explo frig can scan and take the cans u need. NPCs spawn after 1 can is hacked. But what if I see two cans I might want to get. Could a Navy Explo frig have the tank / dps to take on the npcs / also run the data cans. If not what you recommend? I want semi cheap since this is enemy back lines in low sec.
A navy frig might actually be the right choice here if you can bring enough firepower and tank to deal with them. I've actually never done the "new" fw data sites.
Would love to know how a stratios can do the ninja hack sites!
Got good loki fit? Hacking supremacy - uncatchable but can hack everything + take out combat heron?
Do you share your fits somewhere? I am into the Anathema too, it is just a lovely boat. Really want to know more about your fit. Would be very welcome!
The one I showed in video is more of a JUST scanning and covert sites fits; I meant to actually show this one which is my normal go to.

@@nthdimensional Thanks man! Very welcome. As I am a terrible PvP guy and enjoy the more "peacefull" gamesite, scanning and the covert sides are the thing for me. In addition to mission running, DED sites in HS, mining and station trading. :) And an addition Thank you for all your great content and entertaining way you present it.
@@nthdimensional I would also like to see the Anathema fit for scanning and ghost sites please :))
I've always put a cloak on my heron
You mentioned a Stratios streamer. Who was that again? On the Heron what equipment did you have in the High and Low slots?
Brother Grimoire is the streamer
The Heron Community Fit in game is mine
Scan with a buzzard, hack/pvp with a curse.
I totally get the distaste for the Astero. So good, so popular, so boring.
That said: solid list, even better if you had mentioned the unique Combat Scanning bonus on the navy frigates. It does not make them better at exploration, but it justifies their existence - just for another purpose.
Wrong : My imicus have a cloaking device (Type ... On the Heron problem comes with CPU and powergrid along with the analyzers... Big Cons for Heron : unable to activate the analyzers with microwarp... But I switch np aas long as it's not too hot in the surrounding it's OK

Gold Magnate is the best. XD
Astero better than heron imo doesn’t take long to train into ad you’ll pay the ship back twice over on a good trip to null sec explo just fila in and fila out and you can PvP in astero aswell there’s a reason why it’s so popular fly a heron in null where the isk is at besides j space you’ll die I’ve flown most of these ships should make it clear this basically budget explo tier list
Praxis?
I'd put it a tier below the Gnosis. It's tankier but even slower and 4x more expensive.
I cant ready the font on Phone even in highest resolution.
i love your videos! couple things though:
1) you said twitch, but i dont see a link in the description. if there was one, i would follow/subscribe!
2) are you wearing a curtain?
I figured it out! its in the first link!
What are you smoking? You have the tier one frigates scattered all over the list when they are essentially the same with minor differences. Clearly don’t understand the power difference.
cant read anything on that tierlist. that font color and background color have not enough contrast
Look at and listen to your host carefully for 3 mins ...... thats the game you are considering. Lol. Don't do it.
You are so wrong about the pacifier lol.
just got gate camped wtih my gile. lost 700m. bought marshall on hypernet. lost my 6 bil. quit the game. that's my eve life :D cya guys all. as much as ı would love to watch you, i need to let go and unsubscribe. I dont want to see eve EVEr again
It's a war game. It's not for everyone, so if you are prepared to die and lose ships, don't play.
Give it time get good and don’t risk what you can’t afford to lose and you’ll be aight. Thumb 👍
@alihan61baser You didn't realize EVE is a war game? Obviously, it is not a game for everyone.
this video gave me brain worms
