I've been keeping my eye open for an anvil like this in my price range for at least 2 years now. Check scrap yards, Craigslist and talk to everyone you know about how much you love anvils. I'm sure the right one will find you eventually. =)
Well I did happen to see the $250.00 price on that anvil, when you gave initial walk around, but I've seen lighter anvils online going for $1200.00 ish at 300 lbs this would probably be double that. Of course I wouldn't spend that kind of money on it, but I'm looking for a book that will tell how to cast an iron anvil. I'm 64 years old and I did some casting in metal shop when I was in high school, so I have an idea of how to cast a steel anvil, the only problem I see is making a large enough crucible. I do have a kiln that is large enough, I just don't have a crucible for it, but I did get some fire brick powder and some carbon powder for that project, I just have to rethink my mold for it, the original won't be large enough. Maybe if I were to do it in clay?? Oh, well, I'll think on it some more and look for a book on casting steel anvils.
I have it’s smaller cousin, 100lbs’ish. I paid $300 for it though the edges on mine required some touch up work. I took a file to it to get decent a decent radius. It’s not the end all of anvils, but I love mine! Hope that helps!

South Carolina. I bought mine, and a champion rivet forge, from a guy who bought it from an older gentleman that had the pair in his family for several generations and wanted them to stay together. I needed a forge anyway and the price was more than fair. I added a bunch of small magnets to mine, especially the horn and tail. Quieted down without any other help. Does yours have a pattern/grain to the face? I’ve always debated taking a flap wheel to it. I don’t think it leaves impressions in my work, but some of it possibly could.
There is some light pitting on the work face of mine. I'm still debating if I should get a large stone cup for my angle grinder to resurface it. I did already run a flap disc over the face lightly. We'll see, with my 144lb Trenton it seemed to get smoother the more I worked on it. =)
Hey, don’t mean to pry, but is your fusion L5-S1? Mine is L3-L5, front and back. 12 screws, 2 rods, and a titanium plate. Still have chronic pain. I think my SI joints are about to blow out since they’ve had to take up all of the stress of the joints above.... Anyway, just thought I’d ask. Have a good one!
Yes, my L5-S1. Lanx spinous process fusion device on the posterior and titanium plate and screws on the anterior. A carbon fiber cage where the disc used to be with my bone successfully grown through it. I'm now 100% completely fused at that level. However, the original injury cause trauma to my nerve that still create serious problems for me.
I just was at the hospital getting a CT myelogram today. During that procedure they put a hole in your spinal cord to inject the dye before they scan you in a CT machine. All that just to say I can't do anything strenuous or heavy for a few days. But as soon as I can, I'll be mounting it and testing it out with some hot Steel. And I am super excited how about it!
Very nice! Worth 1300-1500 in my area. I’m very envious of you haha. Just picked up a pretty dang nice 200 pound fisher. More damage than this but still almost factory new
That anvil is worth 2500 US dollars because of its pristine condition. Lowballers won't like that but it's the truth. The market determines the value and the market is very very high right now even with the coronavirus going on.
Wow, $8 A pound seems crazy high. I sorta thought $4 was the high end. I haven't really studied the market. I don't plan to sell this one. I think I will sell my 107lb Trenton now that I have this.
I just paid $280 for an 82lb Southern Crescent anvil that is in excellent condition sans a few chips on the edges, so you could easily sell this for $1,200 at $4/lb.
@@WJBlades They're more or less an equivalent to Vulcan anvils (cast iron base, steel plate workface). It's my first anvil and I'm just getting into bladesmithing; really looking forward to learning the craft.

Not worth nearly that much in my area. There is a pristine 490 lbs peter wright that is unable to sell for 2800$. This one is maybe worth 1300-1500$

I love my 130 lb Columbian. It's edges are banged up because of cold horseshoing out here in the west.
Hopefully I'll continue to get use out of this big one. Currently healing from neck surgery... 😑
