Awwww. He is such a humble, sweet, tender Phantom. So different from my usual favorite-self-assured, arrogant, almost predatorily seductive Hugh Panaro! They way he strokes her cheek and then gets overcome during "floating, falling" squeezes my heart.
Such tenderness and softness in Earl's characterization to express the Phantom's desperate loneliness and love. I wish more of the Phantom actors would add this to their character. It gives a whole new dimension to the Phantom. Earl, you are a genius.
I love the stroking her hair at the end. It shows his gentleness and love. It warmed my heart completely. I wish more phantoms would do subtle gestures to make her feel the song like Earl does, (And JOJ) He wasn't to worried about caressing her. Love, Love, Love!
I really like this catch - some Phantoms do it so swiftly and immediately stride over to the boat, and it looks so rehearsed, whereas he reacts far more naturally, with surprise as he catches her and a hesitant pause before he takes her to the boat.
Gosh I love Earl, he’s one of my favorite Phantoms…I love his happy little gesture toward the mannequin like “see this is how much I love you Christine!” 😆 totally oblivious to how weird and creepy it actually is LOL And I love how overcome he gets when he’s cradling her during ‘floating falling’, how gently he touches her hair, he’s such a sweet Phantom. ❤
Colm Wilkinson, Norm Lewis and Earl Carpenter are my favorite Phantoms. Earl's phantom is the sweetest one ever. He plays on the childlike nature kinda like Ramin Karimloo but he has more of a sweetness to his innocence that he portrays so well through his acting.
4:17 is the best reveal I've ever seen! :) Earl is incredible. I get tired of people arguing about who's the best Phantom. I think all of the stage Phantoms are amazing and bring something different to the table. Whenever I watch a different person playing the Phantom I feel like I'm watching the musical all over again. It never gets boring and seeing all the different interpretations only lets you dive further into the Phantom's personality.
I love the build up to the mannequin reveal because he looks like the geeky kid who's finally worked up the courage to ask his crush to to the dance, Erik, bless your adorably disturbed soul.
It's so true, I can watch every Phantom and still fall in love with each for different reasons and feel like I'm watching the whole show anew. Do I have a favorite, yes but did that mean the rest are terrible. No!!!! Each is incredible for different reasons so it's awesome to watch each bring their own interpretation of his personality to their performance. Earl is incredibly tender in laying Cristine down and it's a beautiful touch I haven't seen many do.
Earl is the real deal a tortured soul Phantom and Javert. He has real pathos every night as good as the last. I like most of us fell in love with this piece. Id saw Earl play phantom long before I worked with him. I d gone to see a friend play another lead. I saw the piece about 5 times since opening and said to my friend, which was probably insensitive " Who played the phantom " ? " Earl Carpenter" They said. I never forgot that name. So, like all great things a meeting of chance{ Claude michell] I got Thenardier in the new 25th-anniversary European tour of Les Miserables. Who was Javert? [ another lost damaged hurt soul] Earl. I never told him this. So its here now. Id like to see him step into film now. Earl has a rare thing these days, he has integrity. Always Ash.x
Earl is hands down my favourite Phantom! Just so incredibly moving and he is such a lovely man! One of our family friends was one of the techies (lighting) on the show for a few years so I got to see his Phantom a few times- what a talented actor!👏❤️
Aaawww they were my very first Christine and Erik when I saw this musical for the first time in London.❤❤ I was 18!! It was almost Christmas and my the first trip to England. Thank you sooooo much for sharing. It brings happy memories❤❤
Never really seen any of Earl's Phantom. Clicked on here as i may be going to see him next year. OMG he is wonderful. Such a different Phantom...i almost felt like his love for Christine was making give in due to the rawness of the emotion. Unbelievable...x
I love hearing earl carpenter as the phantom. Its one of the roles he's played that wasn't a baritone. Plus he is a baritone himself, so he has inspired me that I can still play the phantom as a baritone.
Luis Montes nah dude a lot of the other shows he's been in were baritone stuff. Although I do agree with you about the whole "baritenor" thing. Buy from what I know, Carpenter is a baritone.
When I saw Phantom for the first time, I thought it was perfection. I thought it couldn't be improved in any way. Then when I went to see it for the second time, Earl was playing the Phantom, and OH MY GOD! Ten times better than the first time! His whole performance gave me chills, and I cried in the final lair scene. In fact, he cried too. Damn, he's good!
Idk bout you guys but Earl Carpenter’s voice is the only voice that satisfy my craving for Phantom’s voice. It’s so charming, sexy, sweet and innocent all at the same time😍😍😍
his music of the night will always be the best interpretation of this song.. absolutely love his phantom..looking forward to see him again in his role :)
I've seen him 2nd january 2012. He is so amazing, im flashed of his voice. I love his voice. I'm so impressed about his performance of the phantom. So said, that I live in germany.
This is really very beautiful. Earl is a beautiful phantom, one of my favorites. Could you please post their 'point of no return' or 'all I ask of you reprise' or 'wandering child'?
One of the reasons Alfie Boe left the opera house was because of rigid interpretations. You are totally correct, and this wonderful version should recognized as such. Love his Javert as well!
композиция милая а призрак здесь играет муж а возлюбленную Призрака играет его жена сцена где он подхватывает её на руки и переносит в лодку просто романтично
@PaperMateMan your right i did assume he was a bass baritone because of the fact he has such a rich lower end to his voice and sings best in the baritone range (generally what a bassbaritone is),i dont know what the actual term for what he did on the "be" is but it uses the same technique as falsetto except sang deeper to give it a similar texture to your normal voice which is why the "be" sounded so soft. also listen to him singing poto and you will see what i mean, he definately changes in it.
@JAyala7293 because it's in falsetto, earl is only a bass baritone so all these songs are too high for him but he seems to be able to compensate very very well with falsetto and makes it sound really natural.
@DrinkOmally Hi second Ab was in full voice. The first was in falsetto. That's how the music was written. It wouldn't sound so powerful if they were both in falsetto
Earl is such a great phantom, (there is so many great phantom, it's hard to say who's the best though). do you know if he's in a show right now? Thanks :)
@katdancer93 I know a lot of it has to to with the Phantom's back. I guess American Phantom's can choose to do so when they want to, or feel up for it. I also notice that the popular British Phantoms are usually a little thicker/average height and build than popular American Phantoms here who are generally very tall and slim, thus more to bend and lift. Based on the builds alone, it's probably harder to counter balance Christine's weight and get her up bridal style, I imagine.
When Earl first did Phantom - I think I saw him as understudy for John Owen-Jones - I didn't like him much. Seeing this, I cannot think why!! He grew so much in this role and does a great job. Voice not deep enough for my liking and not as strong as for instance JOJ's. But that is not a matter of his talent but of my preferences!
@DrinkOmally I don't think you know what Bass-Baritone actually means, you're obviously saying that because he played Javert. He's definitely a baritone, but this song is better when it's played by a Baritone. He didn't use Falsetto for the 'Be!' anyways!
This is probably my favorite staging of this song. Are there any others that do this song where phantom catches Christine? I think it's better that way. :)
@ChangeYourStars23 It does look better but also does hurt the actor. There has been some damages to the actor (Phantom) before, just like Ramin Karimloo, he once caught Gina and hurt his neck, that affected his singing so much for several months. It's really a matter of safety.
Head voice? Chest voice? Bass-baritone voice? Naw. Earl just goes straight into the separate paradigm of the "I AM AWESOME" voice. There is no fluctuation from it. 'Nuff said.
@katdancer93 The London production always does the catch, and Broadway always doesn't. Some rule that has to do with actor safety or something, I forget. I agree, it is better, but only when the Phantom lets her fall a little before he catches her, to make it look more realistic (like Earl did).
I know this sounds a bit off track..but having recently seen Star Wars..TROS..I can't help but make a comparison to the POTO where Kylo transfixed Rey and as she faints he catches her (also in a mask..lol) Makes me wonder if they were fans of POTO..and were inspired..lol.
The more I think about it, the less I like the versions where the Phantom catches Christine. It's just so obvious that the actress is putting herself in a position for him to catch her when she faints.
True, but I'd rather them not take the risk of hurting themselves while falling. It also allows them to make a quicker transition by getting her to the boat faster.
Earl Carpenter is the Charles Dance of Phantoms in ALW’s musical. So cute and sweet you just wanna hug him!
Heck, Charles himself should do the ALW phantom. He would be great
Awwww. He is such a humble, sweet, tender Phantom. So different from my usual favorite-self-assured, arrogant, almost predatorily seductive Hugh Panaro! They way he strokes her cheek and then gets overcome during "floating, falling" squeezes my heart.
keelieak
And in the end when he covers her with the coats and touches her hair...
Mayim1982 That's the sweetest Phantom action ever.
For real!! Earl is in my top favorite Phantoms. He plays it so well!
Earl is currently appearing in the London production. Limited engagement. Feb 23.
I have the feeling that Panaro's phantom is self confident, while Carpenter's is the opposite, he thinks all the time he looks ugly
earl makes me feel like i’m 12 years old and seeing the show for the first time and am in my “he was sooo sad and misunderstood 🥺🥺💗” phase again 😭
Such tenderness and softness in Earl's characterization to express the Phantom's desperate loneliness and love. I wish more of the Phantom actors would add this to their character. It gives a whole new dimension to the Phantom. Earl, you are a genius.
I really liked how Earl quickly held up his arms and turned his head when he sang "Turn your face away."
So happy with his comeback ♡♡♡ Love him as The Phantom
Ive seen earl carpenter twice as the phantom, and I firlmly belive he is one of the few who gets the character!!!! Amazing xx Go Earl!!!
He is an incredible actor. Saw his Javert twice and he completely transforms.
Gosh I love Earl, he’s one of my favorite Phantoms…I love his happy little gesture toward the mannequin like “see this is how much I love you Christine!” 😆 totally oblivious to how weird and creepy it actually is LOL
And I love how overcome he gets when he’s cradling her during ‘floating falling’, how gently he touches her hair, he’s such a sweet Phantom. ❤
OH GAW--- *gasp* I love how he strokes Christine's face and then his own during the "floating, falling" section. I love this man.
I agree!
Ramin is a puppet not an actor. look at his IMDB...ramin cant act.
Dawn Soso his singing is so OTT also
i wish every phantom ever would do a studio recording of this so i could get good quality of my favorite phantoms :(
4:17 is the best reveal I've ever seen! :) Earl is incredible. I get tired of people arguing about who's the best Phantom. I love the dichotomy of pure innocence and diabolicalness of the phantom. He's sweet and tender, but yet can be so evil.
I love his portrayal of the Phantom. His gestures! His movements! His voice! I just fell in love with the Pantom all over again.
The most elegant Phantom I have ever seen 🎼🎵🎶🎶🎵
Earl is the real deal a tortured soul Phantom and Javert. He has real pathos every night as good as the last. I like most of us fell in love with this piece. Id saw Earl play phantom long before
I worked with him. I d gone to see a friend play another lead. I saw the piece about 5 times

Always Ash.x
Omg. I love that little thing he did at 1:16...
I like the movements of his hands
Earl is hands down my favourite Phantom! Just so incredibly moving and he is such a lovely man! One of our family friends was one of the techies (lighting) on the show for a few years so I got to see his Phantom a few times- what a talented actor!👏❤️
Aaawww they were my very first Christine and Erik when I saw this musical for the first time in London.❤❤ I was 18!!
It was almost Christmas and my the first trip to England.
Thank you sooooo much for sharing. It brings happy memories❤❤
He's the sweetest Phantom I've ever seen :) maybe TOO MUCH for me because I've always seen the Phantom as a crazy man xD
I’m working with Earl Carpenter atm in a performance and have to say he’s a lovely funny bloke I think the best phantom!
Oh my gosh I love his voice and his acting so much. He is truly amazing
his high Ab sounds so smooth and still yet so powerful. its amazing
This Phantom is so cute x3 i love his gentle actions.
Earl Carpenter is most certainly a tenor. Don't be discouraged though, some of the best phantoms are Barri-Tenors. JoJ, Ramin, Warlow to name a few.
Luis Montes nah dude a lot of the other shows he's been in were baritone stuff. Although I do agree with you about the whole "baritenor" thing. Buy from what I know, Carpenter is a baritone.
Actually The Phantom is more of a high baritone role, just like Raoul and Javert
Sean Chamberlain I know what you mean. Javert is actually a mid baritone role because of the note he hits in the confrontation scene
+Sean Chamberlain Javert is two-octaves (notwithstanding a random F# here and there) from F to F
No wonder Earl Carpenter, John Owen Jones and Matthew Cammelle are best friends. They're the three best Phantoms of west end.
I liked how Earl started soft and went soft and loud during the song amazingly spectacular!
I saw him live in 2017. I went to see phantom as a treat for my birthday. He'll remain my favourite phantom ♥️♥️♥️
This is one of my all time favorite MOTN
you just made my life... seriously. i was so distraught when this was removed earlier in the year... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
I saw him in London--now one of my favorites!
I've just returned from a performance of Phantom with Earl Carpenter in the title role. He was magnificent.
4:03-4:06 is my favorite part. he just sounds so in control and perfect
He's so tall ooooh ;) AMAZING VOICE! Love him!
The way he sang the word 'soul' was very beautiful.
I've seen him live in Phantom 😂 he was great. I went to watch him in Milton Keynes when the musical was on Tour roughly 3 years ago
incredible.x
superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love this song so much its really romantic love when be carry's Christine in his arms to the bed and covers her up shows how much he loves her🌷🌹💋💓🎶🎵
her performance is quite sad..;-; flinching when christine tries to touch him. oh gosh ;-;
I've seen him 2nd january 2012. He is so amazing, im flashed of his voice. I love his voice. I'm so impressed about his performance of the phantom. So said, that I live in germany.
I'm sooooo happy to see this video again!!!
Thank you so much for uploading this :D
I am unbelievably, thoroughly, EXCEEDINGLY excited that he's singing Javert in the upcoming Toronto production of Les Mis. ^_^
wow his voice is awesome!! O:
earl's phantom is by far my most favorite because this is exactly how i think the character should be. i love laird's version too though and joj's
This is really very beautiful. Earl is a beautiful phantom, one of my favorites. Could you please post their 'point of no return' or 'all I ask of you reprise' or 'wandering child'?
ok. new favorite
Am I the only one who's always thought that Rachel Barrell looks a lot like classical actress Vivien Leigh?
No, but she does sort of have that classical, old Hollywood look.
He is so good - he has a very easy voice to listen to. :-)
One of the reasons Alfie Boe left the opera house was because of rigid interpretations. You are totally correct, and this wonderful version should recognized as such. Love his Javert as well!
Holy shiz. He's amazing!
mary mother of GOD
寝かせるとこカッコいい🌟
I'm seeing it to, but in Liverpool :)
I think he is adorable as the Phantom.
Matt Cammelle, John Owen Jones and Earl 💕😘💕👌👏👏👏👏👏
композиция милая а призрак здесь играет муж а возлюбленную Призрака играет его жена сцена где он подхватывает её на руки и переносит в лодку просто романтично
@katdancer93 ....Yes, Peter Karrie catches his Christine and swirls her around.....so gallant! :o) Truly a great Phantom too!
@cpjc08 yeah that's the one cant believe i forgot what it was called
Earl makes me want to cry this is so beautiful and his Phantom is sjasfjfjfkjdgkjdkjsdfkjsad omfg whY i'm just in awe

He moves like a spider around the stage...all long limbs and dark, dapper costume...*swoon*
french horns having a bit of trouble there at 4:40
Haha! I think he technically goes into a mix on that "Be". But you're right, he does sound awesome!
@DrinkOmally Hi second Ab was in full voice. The first was in falsetto. That's how the music was written. It wouldn't sound so powerful if they were both in falsetto
@Monkeyballmania Oh, I knew that! But Earl Carpenter is playing the Phantom again at Her Majesty's Theater!
Earl is such a great phantom, (there is so many great phantom, it's hard to say who's the best though). do you know if he's in a show right now? Thanks :)
Earl Carpenter is back at Her Majesty's Theater!! He replaced John Owen-Jones, who I think is going on the UK Tour as the Phantom.
No wonder Christine faints, I would have been equally shocked if a doll had fallen out of the mirror like that!
Michael Crawford is most elegant as both actor and vocalist. My favorite English speaking Phantom.
Elegant? did you actually see him? Crawford is naturally clumsy and awkward in his movements and some of his gestures were comical.
Thank you very much! Have you got the Final Scene?
@katdancer93 I know a lot of it has to to with the Phantom's back. I guess American Phantom's can choose to do so when they want to, or feel up for it. I also notice that the popular British Phantoms are usually a little thicker/average height and build than popular American Phantoms here who are generally very tall and slim, thus more to bend and lift. Based on the builds alone, it's probably harder to counter balance Christine's weight and get her up bridal style, I imagine.
The heights are deceptive but most are around 5'10 to 6' i think.Feet and inches.

Эрл муж Рэйчел говорят они очень счастливы есть даже сын и дочь
This is probably my favorite staging of this song. Are there any others that do this song where phantom catches Christine? I think it's better that way. :)
@ChangeYourStars23 It does look better but also does hurt the actor. There has been some damages to the actor (Phantom) before, just like Ramin Karimloo, he once caught Gina and hurt his neck, that affected his singing so much for several months. It's really a matter of safety.
По с сравнению с Батлером Эрл прекрасный певец имеет высокий тон и как меняется его выражение лица
Head voice? Chest voice? Bass-baritone voice?
Naw. Earl just goes straight into the separate paradigm of the "I AM AWESOME" voice. There is no fluctuation from it. 'Nuff said.
Still Matthew Cammelle has the softest MOTN. This is maybe the second softest.
Рэйчел и Эрл говорят в призраке играли муж и жена они очень подходят друг другу
This has to be my favorite cover of this song, except maybe for Michael Ball's version.
What's the mannequin that drops for?
What font did you use for the credits?
@katdancer93 The London production always does the catch, and Broadway always doesn't. Some rule that has to do with actor safety or something, I forget.
I agree, it is better, but only when the Phantom lets her fall a little before he catches her, to make it look more realistic (like Earl did).
I know this sounds a bit off track..but having recently seen Star Wars..TROS..I can't help but make a comparison to the POTO where Kylo transfixed Rey and as she faints he catches her (also in a mask..lol)
Makes me wonder if they were fans of POTO..and were inspired..lol.
Let me ask this. Out of these 2 Phantoms John Owen Jones & Earl Carpenter who sings Music Of The Night better?
Travis Wolken JOJ sang better, Carpenter acted better
Earl his falsetto is awesome!
@Monkeyballmania Can I get it or is it too late?!!!
Do you have all I ask of you reprise with earl?
The more I think about it, the less I like the versions where the Phantom catches Christine. It's just so obvious that the actress is putting herself in a position for him to catch her when she faints.
True, but I'd rather them not take the risk of hurting themselves while falling. It also allows them to make a quicker transition by getting her to the boat faster.
The Hungarian version does it best--she faints, he catches her, then gently lowers her to the floor anyway.
What note is the "BEEEEE"?
Hazomina 72 Ab4
John Owen-Jones. The second time we went to see it, Earl had actually just taken over from him.
@tatboi1 ...enough so he can sing the song properly?
в этом мюзикле играла супружеская пара Призрака играл муж а в Кристину играла жена
