  • Getting a second degree is a BIG DEAL. I'm here to help give you as much information as possible so you can make the best decision FOR YOU! It is never too late to start again or try something different. If you are passionate about becoming a nurse & you already have a bachelor's degree, I highly recommend an accelerated program.
    Part 2: • Watch This Before You ...
    To my fellow nursing students -- hang in there, you've got this, drink water, stretch, and don't forget to smile every once & awhile.

    Who is she??
    Hello!! My name is Margaret Armen. I am 25 years old and I live in the very fun (definitely underrated) Pittsburgh, PA! A year ago I left my job in advertising to go back to school for nursing. I am currently in an accelerated BSN program with a plan to graduate in December 2021. I love bingeing a good TV show, listening to a murder podcast, and snuggling my little pup. Hope you're here for a good time, a few laughs, and plenty of awkward moments. xx

    About to graduate from my ABSN program in two months. I love that you mention how nursing school is not this terrible nearly impossible thing people make out to be. Is it hard? Yes. Doable? Totally. And my program is 12months and I'm second language speaker. Just FYI that last semester with you one on one with a nurse aka preceptorship is a requirement for all nursing schools.

      I thoroughly agree with your sentiment. I just finished an associate's degree in sciences and arts yesterday. I had to acquire an associates to get into an accelerated program because I didn't go to college because I was always deathly afraid of it. My every experience with the institution of learning has been an abysmal failure, which is why I have been in the restaurant industry for almost 30 years. My ADHD mostly diminished in my late teens, and I learned about my dyslexia at about the time I turned 27. By 28, I was reading everything I could get my hands on. I was like a machine, I was making up for lost time. Still too afraid of school, there was no way I was going back without a very good reason. One day back in the spring of 2021, I decided I wanted to be a nurse. Those classes were hard. A&P, chemistry, statistics, etc - they were hard but very doable, very passable. I'm graduating next week in the top ten percent of my school. Literally, if I can do it, by far most people can. If anybody reads this comment who thinks they don't belong in school, that they are in some way a fraud, please trust that you are not; you CAN do it. I knew every single day I was going to fail; I knew every day that I needed to quit. It is unfortunate that we put "school" on such a high and unbreakable pedestal.

      @Richard's Creole Blend that is awesome, Richard. So inspirational. Congratulations! I'm sure you are going to be a great nurse. Tip a nurse gave me before I went to nursing school: if it feels like a professor is peaking on you is because they see potential. Dont let it get you down.

    Yea I agree. I’m starting my absn in less than a week and people get deferred from applying because they don’t have the prereqs. But orgo for me was INSANE and for some programs they require it others don’t. So you can def tailor which prereqs you can take if you know ur not gonna do good on certain ones. And yes looking up the stats on the school are VERY serious

    Thank your sharing, it really helps me.I am going to apply ABSN program, I matched all of the requirements classes I took these during my bachelor degree, my major is pharmacy, so they are similar some classes, while I took these classes in Chinese, so I am thinking if should I go to take prerequisite classes again? It helps me more easier pass the program? I am afraid of that I can’t pass the program if I just go straight into the program, because I am took these prerequisite classes in Chinese, what’s more, it passed six years already 😂I am struggling with if I should take prerequisite classes again, I just live there two years, for normal daily communication I am doing well using English, I have no idea for nursing professional English, so could you please give me some advice? Thank you so much❤

    • @margaretarmen
      @margaretarmen  3 роки тому +2

      Great question! I don't have a video on that but the order of your prereqs will mostly depend on the program you decide on. Mine let me do them in pretty much whatever order as long as I got them done before my start date. Some will be required before moving onto another (i.e., A&P I before A&P 2) but the others can pretty much be done in any order. Hope that helps!

    Hi Liz, May I know the average cost of studying accelerated nursing degree in usa? I’m looking for cheaper colleges (community colleges?) with any scholarship; I am 39 years old, Canadian citizen, pursued masters in Biotechnology and Masters in Public health in Canada and have been working in clinical trials for more than 11 years in canada but I am always fascinated about nursing; if you could let me know some community colleges in US that would offer accelerated bachelor nursing be great help!

      There are so many wonderful programs all over! What's most important is that you find the one that's the best fit for you! This website can be really helpful to start your search: www.registerednursing.org/degree/accelerated-nursing-programs/
      There is a little box on the side that can help generate some schools that might work for you.
      Just remember it's not about how "good" the school looks on paper but how well they will prepare you to be a nurse and for the NCLEX.

      You can do an ABSN program with any previous major or minor. For example, my previous degree is in journalism. Science degrees (ex. Biology) tend to make the process faster because you’ll typically have a lot of the prereqs that are required for the program (ex. Chemistry, A&P, etc.).
