Ive been watching them since they moved to OKC. When they got Dort and Shai and started rebuilding, adding this and removing this and that player, I didn't complaint, Sam Presti was in charge and I learned that you have to trust the process. I saw the potential and didn’t agree with others saying that it would take years foe the thunder to be a contender. Seeing them get talented players, sending them to play in the G-league and promoting their G-league coach was smart. It was fun to watch them play even though they were loosing. They seemed to get better with each game. When they faced the same team again, you could see the adjustments they would make. They were losing but learning in every game. I was impressed. I was not caught off guard when they went for the finals. They were ready. They didn't win, but they put everyone on notice. They chose a good core team, the bench and the starters play well together. If something happens they have G-league players that have played with many of the OKC players and can easily be used if needed be.
They can beat Boston if healthy. Losing Chet was a big blow. But if he comes back healthy, I think OKC will dominate the west and beat Boston in the finals.
Shit without chet bro they still winning big time like they they new stacked young super team bro think about how they #1 last year comeback even harder this year and still number 1
Boston's heavy reliance on the 3 and Tatum's shaky play in the Finals is what OKC can exploit the most, if they both make it that far. OKC's aggressive perimeter defense and SGA's consistently great play can give them a decided advantage. Time will tell, though.
Don’t know what reality you live in but Boston would just smack OKC in the finals if they got there. Never thought OKC fans would get this delusional because of the hype. Boston brought everyone back and they’re not scared of OKC.
@ that is the most delusional take I’ve ever heard. Nobody was stopping Boston last year and they brought everyone back from that championship run and are second in the East but can very likely take back the 1 seed in the East from the Cavs. OKC would just be picked apart by Boston they’re not scared of OKC. Never thought OKC would be this overrated by the media and overhyped and become detached from reality because of it. Boston would just put OKC in their place they’re not that unstoppable as you think. I honestly believe Dallas just gonna send OKC in the playoffs again if they meet and just go back to the finals. OKC doesn’t exactly have a lot more playoff experience yet after one year and now everyone is expecting them to win it all just after beating Dallas without PFs that game? Seems like a heavily unrealistic prediction as of now
I think the only team out West that could give us trouble is the Mephis grizzlies They run this wired offense but because there always moving I don’t think our wings can play as aggressive in the gaps so it will certainly be interesting to see how they matchup
You said something that is a pretty big misnomer that needs to be corrected. While I believe this is the best shot the Thunder have ever had to win a NBA Championship this season, you can’t just say that because this player or this team was way more efficient last season and once they level off they’ll be even scarier. That’s not how that works, there’s always a give and take when talking about a player’s or even team’s production. Especially after they’ve passed their primes. Sure there are some things you can do to make incremental improvements as an athlete in their prime, but most of it comes down to energy output. Let’s use Isiah Joe as an example since he was one you talked about. He shot better last season and he scored more points. On its face you could say it’s just the law of averages and will eventually “level” off and go back towards the mean. However if you look at everything that’s going in to it, maybe not. As you pointed out, Josh Giddy was on the court last season and he wasn’t a good shooter. So his perimeter scoring was the most important thing they need from Joe last year. Sure they want a guy who plays defense and everything else, but he was out there to stretch the floor. If he was shooting 30 percent, he wasn’t playing. This season they still want his shooting, but there’s not a brick layer playing next to him. Now he’s asked to do more creating, and more importantly be a better defender. That’s the main reason, I could give a few more reasons why his scoring and shooting might be down this season and why it’s not the law of averages but it’s really about defense. Like I said it’s about energy output. Each player has a hypothetical fuel gage just like your car, and it doesn’t matter how or where you drive it. Every second you’re driving you’re burning fuel. Last season Isaiah Joe and the Thunder as a whole spent about 50% of it’s fuel on offense and 50% on defense. Isaiah Joe specifically might have been a little more on offense than the rest of the team last season, but it’s clear they are all using more fuel on defense this season. Primarily because they don’t have an anchor spotting up at the easiest 3 point shot on the floor all game, but also because they’re growing as a team and they just took their first lump in the playoffs last season. From day 1 you could tell there was an emphasis on the defense this season. I mean it was a pretty big talking point the 1st couple weeks. The Thunder were 6-0 but weren’t shooting as good as they did last season, but was putting up historic defensive numbers. I believe Sam Presti and Mark Daigneault have come to the conclusion that they have a pretty good shot at winning a title playing the exact same way they did last season just by getting more experienced and adding a couple pieces here and there, but if they can give max effort on defense with the players they have assembled and qualities they possess it’s almost guaranteed to win a title. It also takes a lot of energy to play that way and it’s a quick way to lose a team if you aren’t winning. There’s a fine line between a great team with a great defense and sound offense, and a bad team with a good defense and average offense. It’s hard to get a bunch of young rich men to completely buy in to that if they aren’t winning, but for now the Thunder seem to have gotten everyone to buy in and ok with sacrificing on offense to be historic on defense. I seriously doubt they’ll ever get back to those shooting numbers as long as they’re expending that much energy on defense.

The thing is they need to prove they can handle 1-2 injuries. If chet holmegren gets injured then the whole defence is compromised ( no , hartenstein is not as good as chet , and he certainly Cannot replace him only by himself ) . If Shai gets injured the volume of scoring is significantly reduced ( not to mention his impact on defense too ). A team like Boston has multiple VERY GOOD alternatives. You could build multiple starting lineups that perform insanely well with their current list of players players like Derrick white and Payton Pritchard are so good that they can take over to some extent if JT or JB are injured and KP is not an option , not to mention that Big AL can shoot it too . ( Unlike denver , nikola by himself is basically LeBron in his first cleveland stinit . He is a monster dont get me wrong , but he also needs jamal murray and aaron gordon to step up a bit ) And i would say the the Thunder lineup is basically in between these two extremes.
I see your point but the Thunder are currently 11-3 with the #1 net rating and defense without Chet. Also, any team that loses a mvp candidate is clearly going to drop off from their contender status. I agree Boston is probably better equipped to handle a Tatum injury, but they still would drop from being the overwhelming favorites. No team can fully thrive without a top 5ish guy.
Not really. My first point is that they have been winning and doing very well with a major injury on the roster. My second point is that bringing up the fact that they’d do worse without SGA is not actually relevant, because you could say that about literally any team if they lose a top 5 player.
They 've been handling 2-3 big injuries all season and right behind Boston for the 3 spot on pace for 60+ wins. SGA is def the player they can most ill afford to lose to injury. That said, if Chet and JDub and everybody else are healthy, I think they can win at a good rate.
You said something that is a pretty big misnomer that needs to be corrected.
