in my experience, guys in the usa still don’t really have skincare routines unless they either have really bad acne or something like that (but even then some of them don’t when they should) OR if they have a female partner that shows them how to do skincare or basically makes them do it lol

In America, there are some restaurants where tipping is mandatory or just added into your bill already. But in most places it isn't mandatory but is generally seen as rude or cheap. 15% is considered a standard tip and 20%+ is a good tip, but nowadays on the bottom of receipts, it will start with showing you 20%- 22% tip up to around 28%... which is admittedly kind of steep.

I think this episode is a subject that really works with your strengths since you know both cultures so well. It would be nice to introduce more US and Korean differences and similarities we would never know. I think explanation of Korean age vs US, cafe culture, etc...
Also of course Aaron is an aggressive driver. He grew up in LA where the 405 and the 91 are parking lots during rush hour. You will never be able to change lanes if you are a passive driver here.

So regarding greetings, I agree a firm handshake is very important here! I actually used to fence, and at the ending of a fencing bout, both fencers shake hands. Because of this, I've very judgmental about handshakes and tend to have a bad impression of people with weak handshakes, since often sore losers tend to give you weak handshakes after a bout. I will tell you guys though, due to COVID, I find in the business sector shaking hands has fallen a bit by the wayside. Since people could not shake hands during the height of COVID, people still feel very self conscious of doing it now, and it's a lot more common that people will make an allusion to covid and just not shake hands. This even happened to me just yesterday when I met my new boss.

As a person who live and work in the US, I have to say some companies also make people work over time .
For example agency and people in advertisement, sometime they work until 10 or 11 pm.
It really depends on the workload of your role, and sometimes its impossible to finish before deadline to not have work overtime.

If I may be critical for a moment, this was an episode I really enjoyed a lot (not to say I don't enjoy the other ones, I watch every one but liked this one extra!)! One of Koreco's biggest strengths as a podcast is that both Joel and Aaron have this dual experience of knowing the USA nad Korea so intimately... which is a rare feature that this podcast has. Topics like this, your Kpop idol journeys, and more I think are really good for engagement, since it encourages both the Korean and American audiences to learn something and sound off in the comments about their surprise, or their experiences with the differences you've outlined. Ultimately, what's most important is you making the content you want, but more engagement helps push the video out to more people hopefully... And I really love seeing you discuss things like this!

For me this is the best in terms of discussion since 1) you didn't bring too many cases (differences) so each case was developed really well..2) ping pong in experiences...3) Aaron talked more in this eps so it's more balanced...this is great no need to jump into conclusion quickly...just enjoy the discussion.. especially the last one about hygiene and gender because Aaron and Joel are quite opposite!... satisfied ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Look forward for another great episode later on👍😊!

Okay so I live in New York City, so I feel like I can speak on honking your horn and traffic! Honking your horn and swearing at people is very common in the US, as is road rage. People will often roll down their window and swear at people as they drive by. So I'm surprised to hear that you two think it's rare, especially Aaron who is from a major city in LA! What it sounds like is more common here that may not be common in Korea, is that in America, it's not unheard of for people to get out of their cars to confront you, especially when theres heavy traffic. Generally speaking, gun ownership is very rare in New York City. But in other places within the USA, it's more common- so while road rage and honking at bad drivers is VERY common here, it is true that some people may be hesitant to leave their car to yell back at someone who has left their car to yell at them/ vice versa.

You tip in Europe as well and Hong Kong too (customary 10%), I think the place with the highest tip percentages is Canada - there, most establishments have no tip sharing arrangements (so waiters don't have to share the tip with the manager, or the establishment). Before you tip, you should know whether that is done.

i think the norm for tipping has increased due to inflation(?) not sure lol but i feel like 15% to 25% is seen as being more appropriate especially if you received good service. i’ve also noticed that some places show the tipping percentages at the bottom of the receipt now to help you/save you from doing the math yourself

There was one time a server (a waitress) tried to ask me and my friends for more tips by blocking our way out when were leaving after end of the term dinner. We booked one room but it was just four of us that she didn't even need to serve us a lot. But she was showing some impatience manners while serving us that we just left a few bucks (10 bucks I think) to show that we were not satisfied with her poor service. However, she stopped us and shocked us like that. It was in the States, at MN to be precise. We just reported it to the manager and the manager apologized to us since we were regulars. He even gave us some gift coupons for next time. But what surprises me even now is that - how in the world, you know, a server has the audacity to stop the customers from leaving without reflecting herself upon and her service, and ask for more tips for god sake. That tipping culture, since then, I really don't know if it is a good custom or not anymore.

For me, tips and taxes in the USA are very confusing. When I lived there it was confusing and I had a lot of trouble, in my country it's like in Korea and the tip is more if you want to leave it and that's it, but the most surprising thing is that taxes are not included in your purchase in the States.

I recently had an interview at the same company i already work at. In another sector. All interviewers already new me. I walked in and introduced myself. They all started laughing. I was being professional. It was funny. Now as for driving in the USA. I am a driver. Its my job. People here honk at you when your waiting a a red light. Its not like we can go anywhere. They need to stop and wait like a normal human being.
