- 16-year-old lieutenant Ledo of the Galactic Alliance joins the battle against the monsters. In an unfortunate turn of events, Ledo loses control during the battle and is cast out to the far reaches of space, crash-landing on a waterlogged Earth.
Anime Name: Suisei No Gargantia
The big snag for me with this anime was the frankly psychotic pacifism of the fleet folk.
“How dare you kill the pirates who were planning to - at *minimum* - violate our comrades and steal a great deal of precious equipment we need to survive! The nerve of you!”
If the story had kept it to “they’re very freaked out by *how* destructive the mech actually is” rather than “offended at the concept of self-defense” it’d have been an interesting element of the story.
Exactly. Pacifism is fine when you are not being attacked first. In any other situation where you have been attacked first, it is imbecilic to not fight back.
@@christopherkidwell9817 It's especially egregious because their big argument is "we must learn to live with them, in harmony".
These are not barnacles on the hull. They are not tidal patterns or solar radiation or a natural component of reality, they are a band of monstrous humans who very much do not subscribe to that same philosophy.
I love the setting, I love the handling of a spacefaring character encountering the near-modern culture he's in, but I just can't get over that aspect, even before getting into the whale-squids qualifying as monsters in my book too.
Yeah I didnt like that much either, especially since that kind of mentality doesnt make sense in their kind of environment where they could face danger any day from anything.
This does make sense, but when you actually watch the show during that episode it was more of a case of. "You didn't even contemplate a way of neutralization as opposed to just killing."
@@LordPebble2309 This is literally the problem with people in modern times. And, these people should know better for being a dystopian world. Every chance you leave to just Neutralizing someone. Means you're not only endangering your life but everyone's life around you.
Only shoot the guy once in stomach or shoot his arm. He can still raise and fire his gun at you. People have survived 15 bullet shots and managed to kill people in that time. Look at people taking 20 Tasers before going down. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.
Everyone's fighting in robots... how can you decide what neutralized is? A robot could lose an arm, both its legs, and even its head. Still functional and could have numerous traps you never would be able to guess.
Loved this one when I first watched it. Better world building than like 90% of Sci fi books I've read, plot was good, characters we decent enough, and the art style was pretty good as well. Most importantly it is one of those stories that long after I finished it it still lives in my head.
if only the cool robot wasn't killed just for the sake of the plot ending
Do you know what the show is called
@@Thegreatbot12 other comment mentioned "suisei no gargantia"
@@Thegreatbot12 The recaps usually have the anime name in the description.
I like how legit everyone is trying their best to ignore the current thumbnail if there was or will be a different one

@@GUMBOSOUP-jx3iz it’s a cool plot so I kinda understand why
This show is awesome, love the art design and premise behind it
Sub or dub
a shame that G.A.H has no Vekta-like waiting for them....
or a Sirius X-like, hm.
hrm....doesn't seem like I can see the other comment in this one?....
Waterworld with mechs. And being good of course.
Soooo Subnautica?
@@Blue_BrickGuy That'd make a great anime.
@@komm6668 I agree with that! That's one anime I'd love to see.
Waterworld was great btw. 😤
Same feeling when I watched it and I really enjoyed waterworld, both have good worldbuilding with decent plot
Love Suisei no Gargantia, the animation looks so pretty in 2013.
Chamber is MVP! He's so badass and he's more human than other humans 😆
To quote Chamber's last words :
*"By helping you achieving results, I fulfill my purpose of existence. All of this sea and sky will surely give you possibilities. Survive. Explore. I expect great achievements from your life... He needs no support. There is no more room for more enlightenment. Now, after I eliminate the barrier that blocks his road ahead, my mission will be completed... Response to your final warning: Go to hell, Tin can!!!"*
lol Chamber was such a smart-butt for an AI at times, but he knew what the heck he was doing when it came down to needing to do stuff..
Can't agree more. Chamber was there ALWAYS when he was needed. I'm just sad he did not survive in the escape pod kinda like BT did. Best people are fast to go.
@@Miragiks agreed... and last i'd seen of him via a movie was someone likely recovered the frame he was part of and was trying to rebuild it, he was glitching like heck, as if his data was screwed up, or he was trying to start up on a bad power connection in the frame
@@niteriderevo9179 can you recall the name of this movie?
@@Miragiks not entirely, but it was the mostly the same name as the series
The first half of the show is magnificent and wondrous discovering the new culture humans had, and those awesome ship cities.
The second half when secrets gets uncovered and the truth comes to light is one the most fucked up thing I've seen, especially to what those "enlightened" people do when they are "blessed".
I remember watching this back in 11-12ish I think. Totally forgot how it ended. Much appreciated.
"His lust for whale squid blood is untamed!"
Great delivery
Lmao ik
Hideauze. They're called HIDEAUZE
Yeah, his one had way to esoteric a happy ending for me to really like it. They didn't SOLVE any of the underlying problems, not just the way the Earth is(Which is beyond them), but the resources are limited, even moreso than what our current world is, and the fighting is still going to happen. Heck, about all they achieved was kicking the can down the road a little, and that's IF the space fleet doesn't twig onto the fact that things are here.
Oh, and we never see things from the squiddies perspective at all. How individual are they anymore? Are they even fully sophent now, or has this regressed them. They're not building anything, because it's not really necessary, but it seems they've evolved into a point where they...don't anymore.
The animation was fine and dandy, and I loved the juxtaposition of the CGI against more traditional animation, it fits here better than most, really adding an otherworldly beauty to the battles, as they're not quite as jarring as in other works that try the same thing, mostly because the tech has far improved since then.
But, yeah, this is not a happy ending at all, just that for the characters lifetimes, it's pretty much over for now, and they're accepting of that. I know it's childish, but I prefer it when they try to fix the problem, rather than work around it.
agree i would have watched this is they decided to work but they just accept the state it is.
I think you touched upon a point the anime was trying to make but slightly missed the second part of itit. I do fully believe that, especially the scene at the beginning where you see their mouth-claws, which is later revealed to originally be human shaped heads, and all the other setups with his ill sibling and stuff was set up to really show that neither way was right or wrong. Both sides have regressed. Both sides only live for warfare against each other. Both sides do not care about the individual.
I like how open ended the end was. It WAS a happy end, the main character finally found peace. And the future was, in some ways, limitless. Would humans now attempt to reestablish contact with their tentacled brethren? Would they, many years later, emerge as a third galactic faction? We will never know, but the possibility was there.
Besides the extreme pacifism I liked it i wished he got chance to rebuild chamber or at least ai brain, core , processor or whatever. so he can still speak to him and etc
Remember watching this Anime when it was on Netflix I spent a whole day watching it even my grandma coming into the room and watching a couple episodes with me

This Anime is a Hidden Gem, I absolutely loved watching this Sci Fi Anime.
Losing Chamber feels like losing BT-7274
I almost cried
Both sacrifised the selves to save their pilot
BT-7274 or at least the fragments of his memories survived and stored on the pilots helmet.
Chamber might be also alive but has merged with the ocean.
Loved the start of this series, but just not the ending. The pirate annihilation scene and the chat afterward about not needing a reason to kill enemies were the highlight of the series.
Remarks: 0:33 Ledo's rank is second lieutenant, not ensign. I don't know why the dubs messed that up for some unknown reason.
1:14 The salvage/repair crew are unable to breach Chamber in any way. At this point, there's no mistake regarding hostility, only capability.
1:36 Ledo doesn't call Chamber out of shock, but that he was cornered. Also, 1:45 / 2:08 Ledo is on the same docking pylon, not a holding cell. You even had it correct before.
I just finished this show and really enjoyed it. I hope it will come back in a future Super Robot Wars game.
It got cancelled a while ago, and probably will not be continued.
Finally a good sci fi anime
the plot twist in this anime is just mindfuck to be honest.
Weirdly enough this the first anime I cried about. That one water scene where he killed the "creature" (haven't watched in liked 7 years) hit me like a truck for some reason.
Out of everything else in my life this was the only thing that made me realize I have PTSD
Very underrated anime, one of the first anime I've seen
Dudeee when i found out those squids are part humans
The scene where he destroys all those eggs and me cheering him on made me feel so guilty 😶
Wtf author-san
That metaphorical gut punch be potent
I cried for Chamber in the last episode . It is most memorable robot for me.
Dat Thumbnail 😳🧴👌🏿
Gargantuan on the Verdous planet is one of the best shows I've seen!
Ledo:worst at this
Chamber:i will do it my self
Ive been waiting to see if you'd do this anime, Gargantia has been close to my heart since its release, and im happy that through you there will be more who know about it and will give it a fair shake
For some reason the title of this video reminded me of subnautica
Finally people are noticing this hidden gem.
He Never stop entertaining me😁
Reminds me of subnautica
*Chamber dies* (My head: Titanfall moment)
As a spectator and a former watcher of the anime. You did an alright job with the introduction. You did leave some parts out of the story that could draw your audience into the anime and what the boy thought the ship was. Could of not told us in the beginning that the place he was on is earth. Since he never knew and thought they were pirates at first.
THEY got PAID for it & you didn't...RIGHT??

I love this show but I have 1 problem with it. Why are pirates allowed to kill but regular people are not allowed to defend themselves?

So they were manga of this anime that recreate the serie, true but I saw one time that there were a spin off that introduce the origins and military training of Ledo. I couldn't read it but is there an other spin-off, perhaps with the origin of how the world froze and the development of humankind after that
