Hope this is a helpful start to people's testing. If anyone has ideas for SB for woodland combo I am open to collaboratively brew. Also welcome any feedback on the new thumbnails I am trying out; not 100% sold on image on the right (ajani in this case) but curious of folks thoughts.
Interested in seeing what you come up with the Woodlands deck. Some things I've thought about playing it in Best of 1. Consign to Memory is popular in the Lotus field decks, and blows up your Scholar of the Ages. Bond of insight would dodge it. I also kind of wonder if maybe two Bond of Insights would be good in the sideboard. Currently, if someone counters one of your combo cards...you're kind of stuck? If you had two "regrowth" cards in the SB, you can tutor for another Fae, and then get back the cards they countered. (and bond of insight can be fetched by Fae, whereas Scholar cannot)
I think the deck is strong enough (T3/4 wins) that it may be fast enough to just hope they don't hit their Graveyard hit in G2 and G3, if you can usually take G1. I did think about using Artifact hate in another Boseiju or Force of Vigor (for Needle and Hearse). That does nothing against Surgical extraction though. Thoughtseizes could be brought in for the Fata Pushes in the non-aggro matchup, and hopefully snag an Extraction before Omniscience hits the yard.
Thanks for thoughts. If I get time I want to test either keeping the combo and just having anti hate stuff or going for a non-grave backup plan
@@MTGJoe From my 1 day of testing. The Aggro matchup seems pretty good. Path of Peril seems better than Toxic Deluxe (you can end up playing this for 4 life to kill a buffed Guide of Souls). I'm not sure you need to devote more than 2 SB slots (if that to aggro).
I have run into Roiling Vortex and Damping Sphere. Both these I'm hoping to deal with Archmage Charm and another Boseiju.
The control matchup is harder...and I think it's worth devoting 4x Thoughtseize and 1x Duress in the sideboard for it. However, Surgical Extraction is just death. I haven't figured a good way around it... Only chance is to duress it before an Omni hits the graveyard.
Man so glad to see these again
I put up a comment about running Mardu Sac right before you showed that deck lol. It’s super fun and feels very good into Boros. Thanks for the video as always!
Want to give the deck a shot as well when I get some time
Love this video format.
Theres some new cards in MH3 I feel like people haven't taken full advantage yet. I think we have many more decks to come. I've been trying to work out some kind of counters deck with the Dreamtide Whale. Was thinking Simic. Been thinking pretty heavy on counters that get put on artifacts and then they do something or even something like stun counters. Could imagine controling the board with stun counters and one mana bounce spells to help enable the proliferate ability of the whale.
Also been working on a deck with Sedgmoor which, Marionette Apprentice, victimize, extraction specialist, plum the forbiden, blood artist, bone shards, ocelet, and plumb the forbiden. Still working out the kinks but been toying with Kambal, profiteering mayor and Elas il kor for those creature spawn/die trigers on tokens.
Are Eldrazi decks not viable in this metagame? Turn 1 chalice seems like a solid tech against Energy decks, but idk if they simply aren't reliable enough?
It’s more the consistency of getting that out on turn 1. If you have more lands beyond the one like eldrazi temple or tron lands it would help. The most consistent list I’ve seen was Ali Eldrazi’s hybrid of show and tell with some Eldrazi cards in it (malevolent 2 drop to dig, 7 drop that sets up your draws)
what do ou think about mardu energy
I tried it and I didn't like it. You don't get much by adding black. At least I didn't. I'm new to arena and have very limited wild cards to try stuff out, so there are probably a lot of cards I'm missing out on
is the qualifier weekend BO3 or BO1? the article wasn't clear
Always bo3
They offer 2 play ins - one for each format mode (think of it like last chance qualifier). The weekend event is always Bo3
what do you think about mardu energy
Which variant - the Boros splash black for Sorin or the RB sac splash for ajani?
@@MTGJoe the sac splash for ajani
its reasonable for sure, I have a video of it coming out today. I think you want to try to find a way to play guide of souls though as you lose a lot of incidental life through the manabase
where is Kethis 0_0
Kethis normally doesn’t have the highest play rate given the complexity of navigating the deck. I was watching Mystmin’s stream yesterday and he usually is all for Kethis. He was mentioning it felt really hard to play in a Boros energy field
The title says Bo1 but it looks like you’re covering Bo3 just a heads up
I had updated the title about 15 mins ago, was a typo. Shows how ok on my end up does it currently still show Bo1 for you
Nah it’s fixed
already kinda tired of seing boros energy top tier on timeless and historic...
I like playing with and against the deck and finding it a fun puzzle to crack. Having said that though I can totally get why people are over it
What! You think wizards might of done something wrong pushing the energy deck? It's not like it is 50% of the meta in every format it's legal in.
I honestly don’t know if and how much testing they do with MH sets. They push cards so much. Nadu is ruining modern
@@stevebowles3050Could be that they've tested with a different metagame, where decks that pray on energy decks were more popular, so energy didn't dominate so much. After all, we have quite a few cards that can theoretically deal with energy decks, and I don't think the community has tried everything already. But Ajani is by far the main reason Energy decks are so dominant.
I honestly think the speed they are pushing out sets and the staff they let go in december may be limiting the scope of testing. Assassins creed wasn’t even out a week and Bloomburrow and duskborn spoilers were both released
