Those Elite Miniatures are brilliant loads of character & as always your videos are inspirational I look forward to the Warspite build those WWI/WWII warships are fascinating...
Basetex isn't as good as it used to be. I based up a lot of Carthaginian 28mm stuff a few years ago and had some problems. The first issue, which to be fair might not have been the fault of the Basetex, was that it warped the 2mm deep MDF bases from Warbases. I replaced these with the 3mm deep versions which partially fixed the problem. There was still a little bit of warping but not too noticeable and not too bad. I also had the same problem that you did with cracking. I got around it by judicious use of bushes. The cracks that remain visible I just put down to the hot climate in Italy baking the ground. Overall the basing looks OK, it's green, dry brushed a yellowy, sandy colour and model bushes applied to cover cracks but I wouldn't use Basetex again, there seems to be a lot of big rocks in it these days. The quality doesn't seem what it was and it's a hassle to use now.
