    I've always heard Billet Oil Pump Gears were a must with any Coyote build past bolt ons.

    So I'm going to say it...
    Never happened with the ZL1.
    Ok and back to happy thoughts. I'm happy it is a built piece now and will be bigger and badder than ever.

    This is the exact reason why anyone that says upgraded OPG's are pointless and not needed needs to do a bit more research . I just boosted my 18 coyote F-150 and had my guys install all upgraded MMR guides, tensioners, chains , OPG's , and crank sprocket . Its really a must when doing any power adder due to the increased stress on the crank . I feel for you brother!

      Yeah the research ive done is most people that mod these cars think that adding horsepower or power adders changes the internal clearance’s of an engine and that is absolutely untrue! Horsepower is not what determines the necessary viscosity requirements of an engine it’s it’s internal clearance that does and this platform is the only one that owners are putting more then double the required viscosity oil in and it’s the only platform where oil pump failure is common! People are really being misled!!

    Oil pump failures seem to often occur resulting to a blown engine nowadays. My friends brother had his Toyota aurion engine blow up, due to the oil pump failing, there was 2 massive holes in the engine and it sent metal shards everywhere when it blew up.

    Sucks bro but I did the same thing on my GenV lt1 and pushed it to 700whp/the danger zone and sure enough cyl7 rings let go. Same scenario for you not so much about manual/auto but more of a known danger with opg’s when making the kind of power you were making. Is what it is and we’ll both be back stronger than ever soon 💪. Curious to what your car will trap at the track…hint hint lol

      @@cnardi91 ok thanks for the response! Still sorry for you mishap! I have always been told by engine builders that if you have not changed the clearance’s in an engine or enlarged oil orifice’s no matter the power level you should never under any circumstances not run the recommended OEM oil! I know supercharger manufacturers and turbo manufacturers recommend a heavier weight oil but they are not the engineers who designed the engine! I have had multiple Supercharged engines in the past and I never changed the weight of the oil! So I would say ask yourself this in the application that you are running (No 2 Step No over REV ) those OPG’s should not have failed! It’s your car and you need to do what is comfortable to you! If it was me I absolutely would not change oil viscosity!

    Please. please. please stop listening to people who tell you guys to run 5w50 on a gen 3 coyote, there is literally no benefit from running 5w50 over the stock 5w20 oil weight. Max you should be running is 5w30, which is only "recommended" by Ford for track only applications. 5w20 gives better lubrication, better oil pressure, and better performance than any weight higher. If you realistically had to switch from 5w20 to 5w50 to keep your engine from overheating, then your engine was already doomed from the start. I'm sorry you were given some bad advice man, hope to see you back out there.

    • @stevensink5544
      @stevensink5544 Рік тому

      @@Gapdd sir that is absolutely not true!! Horsepower levels have absolutely nothing to do with viscosity oil recommendations! The clearances in an engine are what dictate oil requirements! The coyote platform is the only platform that has oil pump failures and it’s the only platform that owners are putting oil in that is 2.5 times the recommended viscosity requirements!! This is an absolutely crazy trend and is probably why OPG’s are even a thing! The BMW Guys are doubling and tripling HP output of those 3 Liter engines and they still run the factory recommended 5w-30 and if not they go to a 0w-40 not a 5w-20 to an absurd 5w-50!! Running an oil of this viscosity only increases pressure in thd phmp that it can’t handle!

    • @stevensink5544
      @stevensink5544 Рік тому +1

      No you said that this thin oil is do to emissions purposes and they don’t care if engines last till 100-200 thousand miles! An engines oil requirement is solely based on its internal clearances period! Not Horsepower not emissions it’s clearances is the only reason for a thin oil!

      @@Gapdd I’m just a guy that has been building and racing cars for 35 years! I’ve had multiple engines built by machinists for bracket cars, street and strip cars and this very subject is something I’ve looked heavily into! The machinist that I’ve worked with over the years to always run what the factory recommends! I had one purpose built race engine for a bracket car that was built loose for power and that ran a thicker oil because the engine builder recommended it! Production street cars should run what they recommend!

      @@Gapdd I meant to ask you on the subject we are talking about you said yeah but there is more to it than that ! What exactly do you mean sir? Outside of internal clearance what other things are you referring to?

    • @jasonrogers4267
      @jasonrogers4267 Рік тому

      Just to add to this at a molecular level a layer of oil with ZDDP or etc is what is needed for the tighter tolerances in these newer engines. If the oil weight is physically too large to properly lubricate the main bearings, journals, OPG and etc then under heat and pressure metal on metal contact occurs and failures happen. It's all about the engine environment as a whole and factoring all the variables in. It's more complicated than that, but that's the short story.
