8:28 isn't that pad gold plated? If that's the case, it should be able to accept solder without any issues. Maybe the scratching isn't necessary in this case. Edit: didn't seem like the solder would run and net the yellowish part of the pad when you were applying solder to the scratched pads. So maybe it's not gold.
