    What a delightful description of Sherlock Holmes stories. I have reads not a one! My mother has read them all and more than once, I’m sure. I’m inspired! They sound like a lot of fun.

    The Bruce Partington Plans is a great tale

      I quite agree! Doyle loved anything with destructive international ramifications, many of which took the shape of documents in precarious offices of slapdash clerks 😂

      @@JoeSpivey02 If you like Sherlock Holmes you should try the board game Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, it's a make your own adventure set in Victorian London as an Irregular, it's brilliant

    Your use of the wet paper bag similie made me smile and heartened me. I'm 77 and my grandchildren, now adults, look blank at me when I use that sort of expression. As for Devonian dialect it is rapidly disappearing. I hope the day never comes when a Scot, Devonian, and Yorkshireman are indistinguishable. You made an excellent video on Sherlock. I have really enjoyed this series. I like "The Hound of the Baskervilles because it is set only a dozen miles from me. Another great story is The Red Headed League.

      I’m very often called old at heart so that makes lots of sense. The red headed league is excellent for tension as well its role in furthering Moriarty’s cause.

    Hi! What a wonderful video, full of very good and sharp descriptions of Doyle writings! It would be lovely to hear something like this about Hercule Poirot, have you read his mysteries? Loved your humour about that slippery slope near your window. Im also from some Northern country, so Im very familiar with that sound 😂

      My dad has many copies of Marple and Poirot so I’ll have to get round to them at some point!

    I *love* the Sherlock Holmes stories! Totally agree, I found him far less 'socially difficult'(?) in the original stories than what he's made out to be in the TV adaptions I've seen. On page in Doyle's originals he comes across as kind of excitable and more affable^^ That really surprised me when I read the stories for the first time, because I saw the adaptions long before I tried the actual books. Love the shows and find the movies fun, but the OG character is the best version, in my opinion😄
    I'm going to have to reread the Sherlock Holmes stories to decide which I'd claim as a favourite🤔 Something to look forward to!

      Make sure to let me know/make a video on the ones you re-read. I also ran into the adaptations prior to my reading of them, but I’ve managed to compartmentalise Doyle from any interpretation!

    I'd have to go with The Adventure of the Speckled Band as a favorite, followed closely by A Scandal in Bohemia.

    • @JoeSpivey02
      @JoeSpivey02  Рік тому

      The Speckled Band is good, but even upon a first reading, it becomes increasingly obvious who it is that’s responsible for the killing. It all then lies in the question of ‘how?’
