The Carnotaurus Tests (Jurassic Park VHS Analog Horror)

  • This compilation of VHS clips are known as the Carnotaurus Tests. The Carnotaurus Tests were a series of tests conducted at some point before my arrival on Isla Nublar and Jurassic Park in the early 1990's.
These tapes were uncovered the night of my escape after coming to know of dark secrets being kept by John Hammond, Ingen and the scientists of Jurassic Park.
I do not know the names of the victims. Out of respect for the victims, I have opted to keep some of the more gruesome moments out of this edit. RIP.

Disclaimer: I'm not an editor by any stretch of the imagination and therefore can't offer any technical critique to improve the craft, so take my criticisms with a grain of salt.
First issue is the sound design. Sure, the music could conceivably play in the building because of speakers. But out in the woods? Under the cave pass? Nah, that would go against Hammond's idea if seeing the dinosaurs in their natural environments. Instead, have some distorted wind noises that sound like they could be whispers, or footsteps, or something other than the wind. Especially under the water cave area, that wibd could sound like the exhale of a massive creature. Subtle sound design goes a long way.
Visuals are trickier. Didn't really get the impression that these carnataurus' could camouflage at all. During the day would be hardest, as their camouflage isn't particularly good in direct sunlight. For the night scenes, maybe have part of the landscape shift in a way it shouldn't, like a small hill and tree leaves moving in sync in an unnatural way. Maybe one of the doors inside the building suddenly moves without the door actually opening. These will be hard to pull off without looking like unintended glitches, but if done right would be greatly unnerving.
CBD's kicking in so no idea how coherent I'm being, but hopefully what I gave is somewhat helpful?

Found footage of JP is a lane! I love it! Definitely needs some work on the animation for the Dino - mix it up a bit for the story..
Dino peaks through a window, making eye contact, iris shrinks from light..
Dino runs from out of the shadows to a large bite.. a variety of different things..
It felt like the Dino was repeating animations in some shots…
Or! Entirely different..use animations sparingly.. like in jaws.. the less we see - can be more 😊.. love the videos my dude. Keep ‘em comin!

Great video and I have some feed back. I saw someone comment about it needing more suspense and I agree building up to a sighting of the dinasour is huge. Id also like to point out that its a bit jarring seeing such realistic surroundings and then a what i assume is a jpeg dino? It definitely worked at the end since it was so low light since its masks your surroundings making the dino look more real. I would suggest working on making a new dino sadly I dont know too much on how you would do that but its a thought. Lastley I would say work off of the ip. If youre going to base off of the islands of jurrasic park try making the videos of you walking tropical. I dont know if thats possible for you but its a thought just to keep it more cohesive. Lastly remember proportions. When you want to do something in doors or under ground in a small space opt for smaller dinos like raptors or compies and for bigger dinos keep them outside and use that to your advantage to make the viewer feel small and trapped. I hope this helped in some small way. Keep up the amazing content.

It is confusing as to what is trying to be conveyed here. The structures also, as they wouldn't serve any clear purpose on Jurassic Park. Also a creature the size of a Carnotauras wouldn't be comfortable moving through such structures. On a relatively small island with much larger predators and pack hunters being around...making a fast escape and having a wider more open area to move around in would make more sense. But tight, small corridors...where if it got ambushed it would be done for...unlikely.

As the clips go for a realism (if they are fully CG thats STUNNING, if dino is added to real footage it's still impressive) it would have been MUCH better if Dino wasn't animated "on two's" because it's movement is bit lagging and it's off putting.

Using the JWA models is a good choice but they should be used sparingly, they aren't very detailed but they'd be perfect for a quick glance at a moving creature or an obstructed view of something hiding. Using their idle animations to have them peak around an object or using their feeding animations with some obstruction so it looks like they're eating the cameraman could make some real good scenes. I hate to sound rude I'd just like to give my 2 cents, the series is great but overexposure of the dinosaurs takes away from the scares

Its made quite ok if im honest. You just need to somehow work a little bit on your dinosaur animations and then this could be some damn good shit

I think the problem is that the carnotaurus moves to much, it would be better to have it less in that way if its imposibole to make it better (sorry for the english, im argentinian xddd)
