  • I'm Railfan Renato, from the state of Rio Grande (RS) in southern Brazil. I am a volunteer member of the ABPF Sul railway and a preservationist of the old passenger trains of my country and an enthusiast of all the railways in the world and this is very exciting and surprising for me. Here on the channel and on facebook / railfanrenato , watch my videos of Rumo Railroad freight trains, our tourist passenger trains in southern Brazil and some footage of trains in Japan, Russia and the USA. Enjoy my work, share and subscribe to the channel "Railfan Renato". Thanks for watching!

    That's some impressive power. Are either of those 2-10-0s from the WW1 era, imported either from Enhland or the US? Many American railroads bought decapods built for Russia that were never shipped due to the revolution. The Russian design was very suucessful in America until the end of steam.

      as this happened at a locomotive festival I think you're right that some models that appear in the video are actually imports!

      No. You’re thinking of Ye series of locomotives. The two 1-5-0s in this video are the So(Со) and L(Л). Both were Soviet designed and built.

      Gainesville midland in Gainesville Georgia had 5 Russian decapods. To my knowledge only one survived

    Damn in terms of height they’re almost the size of American locomotives. Guess it’s true, they just build bigger in Russia

    Not sure, but I believe that Russian trains run on substantially wider track gauge than American trains. They sure look massive!

    • @DistanceNsVeterans
      @DistanceNsVeterans Рік тому +11

      Well there are some railroads in America that has a Wider gauge than Standard. By all means We could've did the same thing since our locomotives Are over 16ft tall.

    • @generalhorse493
      @generalhorse493 Рік тому +4

      The Russian gauge was 5 ft as opposed to the standard 4ft 8 1/2 inches used by America

      @spumatei Рік тому +2

      That's actually true. Russian gauge is 1520 mm (1524 in the past), and European and American gauge is 1435.

    • @RailfanRenato

      The AA model, a gigantic Soviet steam locomotive from 1934. It was the only one in the world with seven pairs of wheels. The “AA” refers to “Andrei Andreev”, a Russian revolutionary who was vice-president of the USSR council of ministers). The “AA” did not go forward due to its size: it destroyed railways, could not make curves correctly and left the tracks. In the 1960s, the only existing “AA” went straight to the trash.

      If I’m not mistaken it was actually the class P38 2-8-8-4 Mallets. One of the very few examples of a non-narrow gauge Mallet-style articulated steam locomotive ever built outside of the United States. The P38s were heavily inspired by the Southern Pacific’s class AC-9 (also a 2-8-8-4).
      Here’s a promotional video showing the P38s in operation: ua-cam.com/video/74tgFZut9aE/v-deo.htmlsi=WTiLj3CxMf_tFSwy
