Very cool, kind of gotten out of the smaller stuff but this one definitely gets the attention. I like your channel and watch it frequently. Appreciate your capability and knowledge sharing, all delivered with authenticity, humility and respect for the greater RC community.
Well you made me buy one after watching this video, and it is simply GREAT! It is definitely worth the money when you realise all the tech that went into this bird to make it fly as great as it does.
Great video Chris. Yours is the only channel on YT that quickly gives rc pilots the info they need. Other rc channels get bogged down with filler but you get straight to the point.
Ha ha ...I know how much you love F-14's . Well done Christopher, you really rung that out! And I get how you can geek out on the technology of the umx planes.... I just don't have the eyes for them anymore.
I don’t feel that it’s underpowered at all personally. There’s a lot going on the airplane too. I’m not too surprised that the a10 is a little quicker. It’s smaller and lighter than the tomcat.
Thank you for the video! Ive been back and forth between this and the Freewing F14. I definitely decided I am still to novice for the Freewing! And that the eflite would be just right. Your video gives better inside insight, looks well made and strong where it needs to be while being breakable where it should be!
Totally rad brother! Seriously, thanks so much for this great review, really liking the videos from Middle TN! All the best to you and Merry Christmas to you and the Fam!
Thanks for taking him down before he played danger zone !!! You’ve flown it and it survived so put it with your plastic models. 70 to 90 mm with retracts and now your talking . Are these UMX planes popular because I don’t know anyone who has bought one ?
Very nice looks easy to land! Hard for me to get new planes I have no room. Have to crash some first! Lol. And i still have three in boxes to put together. That doesn't stop me from wanting new ones. Im sure you know what I mean.
When I swing the wing into flight mode 2 I have to add a lot of up elevator trim and right aileron trim. Then even more up elevator and right aileron trim is needed swinging into flight mode 3 (which is wings fully swept back). On any other airplane I would transfer those trim values to the sub trim menu then zero out the manual trim. But I do not understand how to do that with this airplane because I have different trim values for each flight mode.
Great review 💪 i already purchased mine. I spay painted the bottom white, to make top and bottom more recognizable, it was about 30-40 grams of paint. Do you think it will damage the flight ability ?
I wasn't a big fan of how mine flew, it was grossly underpowered and it performed like a pig in the air. It also got really small really fast so I had to keep it close, which with the above mentioned shortcomings was a task at best.
I suppose it depends on what you’re looking for. I don’t find the model underpowered at all personally. It does get small quickly though and seeing it can be challenging at times, especially with the wings swept back. That’s just a product of the size.
@@Thercgeek Maybe it's the battery or battery weight that I'm using with my Liperior 35c 4s 2200mah pack that's possibly neutering the models performance, I'll have to try something different to see if it wakes it up a bit.
@@Mikeylikesit1968 wrong there's a lot more to it than just those two things, but the extreme majority seem to agree that it's grossly underpowered and flies like a pig in the air and yes, I've checked those two things you've mentioned and there's zero difference.
@@Mikeylikesit1968 well that's your subjective opinion on the matter, but the concensus in every online forum and group says the opposite and agrees with my conclusions. I've also been in this hobby for over 35 years and have numerous edf jets ranging from this little slow pig, all the way up to 120mm edf's, so I think I know what I'm doing and how to setup and troubleshoot a problematic model or situation. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, but your assertions and thoughts on this model is in the extreme minority concerning it's flight envelope and capabilities from my personal experience, and the concensus of the majority of the edf community.
I don’t think it would be much of a problem, though harder to see in the approach. It Would land just like a delta, though probably a little hotter. I’ll try to do a follow up with that.
Sorry Han Solo types…no jump to light speed this time 😂 but take heart (and notes) Chris here presents quite convincingly! Y’all just need to figure out how he does it. May the force be with you!
Im pretty much done with buying products horizon hobby sells. I took a 2 year break from the hobby for life reasons but now that the dust has settled i came back to buy the su-30 only to find its been discontinued. Looking around their website, im stunned at all the products they have discontinued. Theyre ruining our hobby acting like the grocery stores that try a product for 6 months and get rid of it. Thankfully we have FMS and Freewing to choose from. Because Horizon Hobby will discontinue something you buy 2 days later and will not have any parts available
Let me save you 8 minutes: no it’s not. Save up the additional money for the freewing twin 60mm f14. it’s the best f14 model under $3000. Plus it’s got the Jolly Roger livery.
It could have been 50mm or even 64mm not 40mm, it could have been designed better, ir could have....oh no point ..it could have been so much better.. shame i expect it will disappear into nothingness, it has no longevity, appeal.
Sure, it could’ve been a lot of things, but this is the direction that was chosen. For what it is, it’s pretty cool imo. I do wish we did get a larger one too, maybe we still will at some point if this is popular enough? Hard to say though.
Wow a lot going on in such a small plane, really cool 😎. Just the right size for Tom . Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎄

I get that, it does get small in the distance pretty quickly, haha
I maidened mine yesterday, pretty cool little edf. It felt like it needed a bit more power cause my UMX A-10 30mm can somewhat catch up to it

There’s a place for these umx’s. Most of my friends have at least one in their hangar. I hear you though, I would love to see a twin 70mm sized one.
great flight and review...Merry Christmas...🌲
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you also!!
4s 2200 holy cowwwwww. Great vid mang :)
Sweet!! I noticed no rudder servo, does it use differential thrust or is there simply no yaw control?
There is no yaw control. TBH, you don’t need it with this model.
The model has steering control, but the rudders aren’t movable.

Awesome presentation my friend. Like you said, cant beat a Tomcat. Now if we could just get a bigger one 😉
Right?! I’d love to see them bring a 70mm sized one to market.
@@Thercgeek I'd like to see a 90mm 😉

Why not just leave the trim values in there and call it good? Those values are stored within each flight mode.
Great review 💪 i already purchased mine. I spay painted the bottom white, to make top and bottom more recognizable, it was about 30-40 grams of paint. Do you think it will damage the flight ability ?
Thanks! I think it should do just fine with the added paint. Good idea to add some contrast, it can disappear in the distance with that grey.
Thank you for taking the time to reply 💪I had my worries on this.
so are you going to add the 40mm to your center burner lineup?
Good question, haha!
Where can I find this exact model at and for the cost how much? Cause I really need this F-14 tomcat for my collection plz give info ASAP?
There are links to everything in the description. This is the airplane: bit.ly/EflF14-40mm
I did not see this... I remembered commenting on wanting a umx class F14 a year or so back ...
Must find one hehehe...
That opening scene! Lol!
😆

Holy Cow! That's awesome.
Talk to Me Geek!
I destroyed My UMX Citation.
I would expect the same result Ahahahaha!!
Great show Young Man.
Haha, thank you!
no rudders?
Just the fixed vertical stabilizers
Maybe just an MX? Or Jumbo UMX? Beautiful stick work sir. Better than the HH videos. U rocked that.
Thanks! MX works, haha
I'm guessing, but I think E-flite got ahold of the old Art-Tech molds and did some upgrades. Whish they'd do the same with the XB-70.
Honestly, I’m really not sure about that. I think the star max was a little bigger than this one wasn’t it?
@@Thercgeek No, both used 40mm EDFs, though the Art-Tech used plastic in it's wing gear.
Hmm, interesting
Didn't the art-tech use 55mm fans? I remembered it came in the jolly Rogers and the black knights...

Yes! Though, I was thinking a 70mm personally 😁

Best review I've seen so far...... Nice landings
Thank you!
Wingtip strikes again? This isn’t a spitfire! 😂
Haha
If I ever buy one , im taking the gear off, will make it fly nicer and probally increase speed wise
Yeah, I’d expect it would pick up a little performance without the gear.
It's definitely pretty cool, but it's too expensive for what it is..
The wings are coming out mav, why are the wings coming out?
Haha
Sweet.
Indeed!

I don’t try it’s too small for retracts there are Lego planes with retractable landing gear
This is an Rc plane not a lego set
But will it Cobra😜
Nope, just like the real one. 🤣 actually, I haven’t tried, haha
