LOL This guy's performance in the Broncos went down as soon as he started Crossfitting XD
Actually no he did not he had a career-high 4.8 yards per carry that year "During the 2011 season, Moreno split playing time with Willis McGahee, and soon lost the starting job due to McGahee's performance. Moreno still averaged a career-high 4.8 yards per carry. His season was cut short on November 15, 2011 when the Broncos placed Moreno on the IR after he tore his ACL against the Kansas City Chiefs."

Conclusion: Crossfit = meaningless if it doesn't translate to performance on the field. He returned to his pre crossfit weight after stopping crossfit and began playing again. Crossfit might be good for soccer moms who have nothing else to do all day, but it's not for athletes. You want to know what Crossfit hero, Rich Froning does to prepare for Crossfit games? NOT Crossfit!
Hymen Buster Anybody can unfortunately tear their ACL playing football. You get hit in your knees all day long something is bound to happen eventually. Kiko Alonso tore his ACL Power lifting. Does that mean power lifting is bad for you as well no. I'm assuming from your opinion on crossfit, you have never tried it before? but your are quick to judge.
Robert Fraser I tried CrossFit for a month prior to this comment and it was the biggest waste of money and time that I have ever spent. Doing exercises with shit form (as he displays in this video), will lead you to be more prone to injuries. That was my point on the acl. But let's dismiss the ACL part. What about everything else that I posted? What excuses do you have to dismiss those?
Hymen Buster maybe he didn't have a good coach lol. Crossfit does leave you very sore. i'm not disputing that. But I just started crossfit myself and I don't have great form. i'm doing it to get myself back in shape and work on proper form. I honestly get different reactions from everybody. But it all depends who your coach is, how dedicated that person is, and how teachable you are.
It's funny how Knowshon did Crossfit, then sat out a bunch of games, healed up, stopped doing Crossfit, went back to his regular routine, and then was able to start playing again.
***** Yea, I wonder why lol.
Maybe because football players are too weak to do crossfit.
shogrran haha good joke.
Dildo Baggina I wasn't joking. (Not entirely) People don't "just do" crossfit.t I see these crossfit 'exercises' and I think I'd definitely get injured if I try to do that on par with someone who's been doing it for a while.
***** Tell that to the other guy. Not me. Read again so you'd know which side I'm on.
Start from square 1: A healthy, strong, athletic base, bury yourself into the ground practicing half reps, reps to failure, burning out your CNS, ruin your bar speed, ruin your explosive power, repeatedly fatigue your tendons, detrain into a slow twink with an elevated resting HR and rhabdo...sounds great for football.
ZZZZZZERO!!!!
@johnhorne1839 I read you comment and all I heard was Rich Pinana here welcome to smaller by the day 😂
Matt Chan's black voice is fucking hilarious.
You couldn't be more correct, I have this exact conversation at least once a week!
him and peyton r gonna light up the NFL this year
I crossfit...3 months in, I love IT. It forces me to reach down into my soul and be and strive for my best, it has helped me to find a better me. I laugh when I read and hear about people scoffing, and hating. Everyone has an opinion, wants to critque. The old saying remains true, dont knock it till you rock it. In my box, the first rule is to leave your ego at the door. When people dont do this they get hurt. Dont try to overdo it, you know your body....push yourself but be smart.
oh jesus no they're starting to take the real athletes. first klokov now this. it's all over.
Oh no! Athletes are looking for functional workouts that might allow them to improve when they're not in season. The horror! There are several Bruins and Pats players that go to the different boxes around Boston and no ones gives a shit.
Patrick Hopkins Why don't you check Knowshon's stat's before crossfit, during crossfit and then back to normal. It all lies in the game stat's dipshit.
***** Thats what I am trying to say, proof is in the pudding and crossfit nearly took him out of the game, thank god he made a comeback and left crossfit to the wannabe strongmen and bodybuilders.
***** wait, are you serious? Go watch "days in the life of Rich Froning" and tell me he didn't do crossfit to prepare for his 2013 win.
ItsVinz Your intelligence is properly displayed by your amazing grammatical skills. He benched, squatted, did EMOTM work, the list goes on--all things that happen in every box. What you don't seem to understand is that a crossfit workout is typically built up of two parts: Strength/skill work: squats, bench, snatches, cleans...power/oly lifting work that all you fuckbois are obsessed with. The second part is the WOD that incorporates the skill work into a workout. Every box incorporates traditional training and WOD-style workouts in order to build well rounded athletes. Yes, some boxes are fucking terrible and the coaches don't give a shit; but the real ones that produce games athletes are full of people who give two shits about form and know a thing or two about lifting. You can keep arguing with me all you want, and I know you will because you think that your opinion is golden and no-one but you is right.
Bunch of failed athletes by the looks of this video
Knowshon moreno a failed athlete..? He's a top 10 back in the league and having a career year
Daniel Hearn But only after dropping crossfit ^^ He dropped his usual starting weight from 215 to 195 during his stint of crossfit training. Ended up spending the season on the bench, then went back to his traditional training methods, put the weight back on, recovered from his injuries and went back to being successful.
evilgenes Sounds like you are the shit.
Failed athlete...says the UA-cam keyboard warrior lol
I LOVE crossfit, best workout you can do, you got a bunch of people pushing with you, your fucking screaming pushing pumping each other up in a positive way I just love it hahaha great video
We do max deadlifts, front squats, back squats, snatch, squat snatch, clean & jerk...etc. Crossfit is strength training, endurance training, agility, speed, flexibility (mostly upper body flexibility) all rolled up into one program. You never do the same thing in the same combinations, each day is different.
Great fantasy pick this year !
I'm not going to sit here and call anyone stupid, but let me just post something for all to see...
Knowshown Moreno (KM) Was drafted in 2009.
In 2009, he played in all 16 games of his rookie year and started 9 games total. He rushed for 947 yards and 7 TDs, and also had 2 receiving TDs. Not a bad rookie year.
In 2010, He played and started 13 games. He had 779 yards and 5 TDs, Also had 3 TDs receiving. Not bad, but not as good as we hoped he would do.
Shortly after the end of the 2010 season, Moreno dropped in weight from around 220 to about 195, specifically to train in cross-fit.
He spent the 2011 season on and off the bench due to a nagging hamstring injury all season, only had 179 yards rushing, and no TDs.
2012, his second straight year training with Cross-fit, was no different. Not only was his hamstring still bothering him, but he ended up tearing his ACL. And if you look it up, there are specific studies that talk about how a lot of cross-fit lifts not only take flexibility out of your muscles, but it also destroys a lot of muscle stamina.
Shortly after 2012, KM was quoted saying that he "had put cross-fit training in his rear view mirror" and that it just wasn't for him.
In 2013, after gaining his weight back and going back to more of a power lifting mentality, he had a breakout year, and the best year of his young career. He rushed for 1,038 yards and 10 TDs. He also had over 500 receiving yards and added 3 more touchdowns. He played in all 16 games as well.
The statistics don't lie. Cross-fit, in my opinion, is not for sports like football. If you like cross-fit, good for you. But if you want to get bigger and stronger, just get in the gym and lift weights. Look up some body builders like Kai Greene or Jay Cutler and tell me if you would rather look like them or look like Matt Chan.
You had me until the last part. Anyone that puts juiceheads up on a pedestal loses credibility in my opinion.
Alex Bonesteel Vegan gains though
Bloodshedder914 Idd rather look like Matt Chan.
Louie Simmons can explain this a lot better than I. By pounding out those style work outs, you're never going to get stronger. You just can't generate enough force. You will get faster and build youre endurance for those activities, but you'll flatten out. By omiting the heavy squat, deadlift and even bench you're cutting you're training short.
KnowMo a blast from the past. Blew out his ACL from CF. XD
Dumbell curls, can't quite say we even do those. The clean or the clean & jerk replace a dumbell curl. We have dumbells, but unless you are doing them yourself, a static movement such as the dumbell curl, is not included in a wod.
6:20's comment is spot on. An athlete that already has elite fitness but not familiar with our techniques. Some Crossfit enthusiasts get caught up in their own hype and claim to be "fitter" than pro athletes. Those type of cross fitters can attract negative attention
Glad to see him have some success now. Just stay healthy!!!
This is the most logical comment against crossfit i have read. I like you, well played sir! (I am a crossfitter, I don't do 1000000000 reps).
Matt Chan's mustache lifts more than I do.
A friend of mine is a CrossFit Trainer and he guided me through every workout. We hit gym 6 days a week, 5 days of Olympic lifting followed by the daily WOD. 1 day of active recovery and stretching and 1 day of complete rest. Last but not least.. I ate extremely healthy.
In football curls help you develop arm under speed. That is the position you take as a lineman or WR going into a blocking position. You need to drive both arms from your sided to up to chest level. The defender is taught to push your arms down. So,the bicep comes into play. Many people believe that bicep is all show no go,but it plays an important role in sports.
I would expect kshon to be box squatting way more I'm surprised. That's only like 345.
This is EXACTLY what Crossfit is all about, there's room for all. Awesome video!
Both of these dudes seem cool as hell.
Wow, this man should make vids/instructions vids of excercises, I liked the lunge with bench,
Great piece
Crossfit is essentially the training form that follows the saying "jack of all trades, master of none". Being a professional athlete u are a master at your specialized sport
I'm a fellow instructor and incorporate two or three crossfit wods into my weekly training.
I'd like to know which ones you find to be good. I like doing Grace 5-10 minute after finishing up heavy deads, I like Helen for general conditioning, and Fran as a finisher after a heavy pushing\pulling day. Are these good in your opinion? Any other worth?
I love Matt Chan, and I don't know why but he reminds me of Andy Bernard from the Office.
Love #27 Can't wait for my session at 0700 Pledge Fitness Training in Downey Ca
i wish a crossfit gym was in michian i would love to get into this this is my kind stuff i need something like this
Yep glad to see him being a beast now!
it just goes to show you that no matter what level you are at, keeping an open mind can only help you
Many strength and conditioning Coaches are implementing this into team work outs to do something different. The workouts are brutal. Kid played D1 ball,he has some stories. He does cross fit now to stay in shape as he is done with football, With right trainer it can be extreme.
That's one thing that is definitely needed in Crossfit. Diversity!
Curls help in kick boxing and bjj. For kick boxing it helps your clinch and control for knees.... in bjj it helps close guard and also helps defend against getting your arm ripped off in an arm bar... also the additional girth will help in defense as well for bjj and kick boxing. Judo and most martial arts use many push and pull motions that benefit from strong biceps. In basketball bicep strength helps will pulling down rebounds and stripping the ball in basketball AND football.
Actually a lot when lifting things, it's really useful. Don't say bodybuildling is useless, don't say crossfit is useless. It are seperate sports
good observation, never thought about that
Should also add that I personally love Crossfit as a supplement to our specific disciplines training and respect the hard work 99% of cross fitters put in
any athlete whether it be basketball or football or whatever, has a lot to gain from crossfit, dont let anyone tell you otherwise, i play basketball for a living and have see the best results ever since starting crossfit, strength wise and self image wise.
Of course Knowshon makes it looks good, he's a professional with years of proper training.
We do strength as only "part" of crossfit. Like maxing out for example. We have max out days also. Like I said though, that's just one small part of the total package.
Good Luck, K-Shon!
i would be interested to know how his season went and how he performed and how different he felt and how he thinks he performed.
Knowshon seems like a real cool dude
i do agree that some of the things done in crossfit workouts in a bit out there and at times does seem to lack reward, but overall i think its a good program. that is just my opinion though. what works for me may not work for others as we all know.
Yes, this is just the beginning!!
Knowshon had an ACL tear in August of 2010... one year before he started CrossFitting. His ACL/hamstring continued to be an issue but it was before CF and continued after CF. Do your research and don't just look for stones to throw.
This is an absolute joke and not conducive to any sport, especially not football.
Curls helps work and improve 4 muscles on your arm. Biceps Brachii, Brachialis( muscle underneath lower part of the biceps), Brachioradialis (muscle at the outer side of the lower arm and forearm), and your Stabilizers.( stabilizers help fixate the shoulders, scapula, and wrists) Although there are better excercises for improving these muscles, curls do benefit many athletes from variety of sports. Track; arm strength and position is very important to a track sprinter. Shot-put, baseball...
pretty cool vid
I think its funny when people say he's a scrub or he sucks. Being a scrub or even a tackle dummy in the NFL is better then anything athletically you have done. Or you would be in the NFL. Also to the people that say CrossFit is lame and all that. If it was so easy then why don't you compete and go to the CF Games, cause you know its easy
the stash makes the video
it took MacGahee to get injured for Knowshon to get more reps. Hope he can continue to play well and start there or anywhere else.
Maybe I should do some more curls.. Should I eat 17 pizzas and drink 5 protein shakes after I do a few sets of curls too? Would that help me be more like you?
I just found it thank u :)
Sorry might be a misinterpretation on my part but did you say crossfit outstrips olympic weightlifting for explosive strength and lean muscle???
first year with crossfit 159 rush yards, first year after he stopped doing crossfit and went back to his former training he had over 1000 rush yards
crossfit has its benefits but at then end of the day as a pro athlete there are better things to be doing
This is when you just have to move on and forget the conversation, lmao if someone is trying to say olympic weightlifting is less explosive than crossfit then you just cant say anything to them because they clearly are just clueless. MrBrochunky is just lost in the fitness world
CanditoTrainingHQ I love doing strength training and crossfit workouts but I have fell in love with Olympic lifting and those moves are truly the most explosive moves especially if doing high hangs.
And what sport do curls help you in?
how good is crossfit for earning muscles?
CrossFit is great and all, but it has no place in the world of strength athletes who require training specificity and power, over endurance and exercise variation.
Name a sport where endurance isn't the foundation in training. Every sport requires endurance, otherwise how can you expect the athlete to perform all the time??
radman5 football you dumb fuck
sadasd asdasdasd Football is known as a sport where power and strength are the most important factors but many players who have achieved extreme strength lack aerobic recovery over the long term and can preform explosively in the beginning of the game but not at the end, like when coaches say games are won in the fourth quarter. So endurance doesn't have as much of a major role as i does in sports like soccer and basketball but football players do benefit from stamina/endurance training.
You truly have no idea what you're talking about.
Oh I see. Well again, thats a bit of a flexibility issue but having a bit of experience with heavy front squats I can definitely relate. Your upper back really has to stabilise the weight, but as it gets heavier your legs might be able to handle the weight but your upper back not (definitely for me as my legs are kind of way ahead of my upper body). I've had times where once I hit the bottom and come up my elbows are a lot lower than what they should be.
While you may be correct most fitness facilities are staffed by trainers that do not really now about Exercise and Sport Science.
JThank gaaaaddd my high school we did cross fit combined with swimming.
Love the Broncos, Love Chan!
So, did he continue to do it this past summer? Because he tore his ACL the season after this was filmed.
Is it a coincidence that knowshon Moreno had his best season after ( 2012 ) starting CROSSFIT I think not!!!
Depends on what you mean by muscles. Crossfit probably isn't for someone who wants to bulk up a lot, because the intense cardo aspect of it uses a lot of calories. On the other hand, if you want to build lean muscle and improve explosive strength, than Crossfit far outstrips traditional weightlifting.
They both get their power from their superb moustaches.
This Crossfit trainer is full of it. Knowshon Moreno is probably smoking this class in a matter of weeks. Plus, Knowshon is a real athlete the rest of these guys just do not have his physical tools period.
He seems like a normal Dow to earth guy. It was interesting when they talked about the moves he had trouble with. He's a professional athlete, but he still needs to 'learn' specific moves. So in terms of functional movement CrossFit is at a point where it might veer into more of a specialist sport. That will be interesting to watch over time. It's definitely a beast that could take on it's own life. There is doubtless the money side, like other professional sports. Let's see if that end of it kills the 'sport' of it like so many others.
Kids soccer now is simply a feeder to a regional then national level. In some ways it is necessary to create a national team or vibrant professional system but it also kills it for regular kids who play. Even if a kid is good, travel league takes time and money and if you've got a couple kids who are good it's tough. If your kid is good but not on travel teams good luck getting onto the HS team or college.
Pretty sure they don't as we have dumbells there. You kind of just have to do that on your own though if you want, as it's not included in WODs. Crossfit WODs involve compounded body movements (i.e. Thruster is a movement that involves the whole body). Nothing about dumbell curls is aerobic or compounded. It's sitting there and curling and that's it, no heavy oxygen demand for the muscles. Getting Bulk is not in a Crossfit WOD. Stamina, agility, speed and strength usually are one in a WOD
That's cool!
What the hell is going on with that box squat?? Are they actually trying to fuck up his discs???
Knowshon kicked ass at UGA !!!!
Colleges have the best as many pro's do not like the program their strength coach uses and they use their college coach,do their own thing or do not lift. Walter Payton developed his own program. One portion called Payton's hill was renown as he would bring in team mates and other athletes to run up the side of a hill that was unbelievably steep.
That's just it though. Deadlift would be followed by an 800m run, Burpees then a set of double unders or some wallballs. Then you would have to repeat that either as many times as possible for a give time, or a specified number of rounds as fast as you can. He may be able to do 1000lbs but can he do 500lbs with everything else listed for 5 rounds in under 8min. Those are just hypothetical numbers but you get the idea.
This is where you fail to understand what Crossfit programs are like. I can tell you haven't experienced a crossfit program based on your comment. We do max days as well. Endurance is NOT the only part of Crossfit. You build strength by doing 1 rep maxes. I weighed about 235lbs when I started Crossfit. I'm down like 215 and I deadlift 440lbs. The heavy lift is not Omitted in Crossfit. It's a "part" of the program, but not the only part like regular weightlifting (one dimensional).
Why should someone care about their dumbbell curl numbers? Why should someone ever care about any number they can put up in a isolated exercise? It doesn't matter in any aspect of life (except in those lifts) so the idea of Crossfit is better for your life, it makes you do bigger movements and move your body the way it is meant to be. You may think its not a sport, but how can something that is built up on many kinds of sports not be a sport it self? with that said, Crossfit is a sport!
that's gotta be awesome to workout with a NFL
Knowshon had one of his best years this year & actually had no injury . WOnder why??? Crossfit maybe!
Real Men Can Crossfit.
i think it has more to do with him enjoying it , exercising for the joy of it rather than for professional requirement.
Handsome, easy going, and fine..... your wife is right here Boo.
"During the 2011 season, Moreno split playing time with Willis McGahee, and soon lost the starting job due to McGahee's performance. Moreno still averaged a career-high 4.8 yards per carry. His season was cut short on November 15, 2011 when the Broncos placed Moreno on the IR after he tore his ACL against the Kansas City Chiefs" .
Good luck Knowshon
love crossfit
Crossfit is amazing I swear it is it's really good for us football players they're just working on nothing but hips n Glutes basically
I agree with you 1000%
Like? What other type of program trains people to be like an athlete? I only know of Crossfit that does this. It uses olympic lifts in the workout. It's like how a Military person would train for combat. There is no use to be able to bench x amount of weight, or squat x amount of weight to people like a boxer, martial artist, military, basketball player...etc. Stamina, endurance, speed, agility and strength are all important to someone like that. Just slow heavy weights does not aid that
It's completely open source, anyone can go to the website and see the WOD and do it. I did it on my own for 6mnths. the "Open" does cost 20 bucks to post your scores and qualify for the games though...
yea the thrusters are hard, what ones the thruster again ?
I have a question, have you considered this plan called the MegaMax Muscle Maker? (google it). My friend says it helps people bulk up.
It's not about who can lift more or who can run the farthest or do the most pull ups, its just a way of life to be the fittest, strongest & have the most endurance possible for everything in life, not just in competition, yeah strongmen can lift heavy shit but they couldn't run up & down the beach with their kids for more than 10 minutes!!
indeed my friend
Lol a professional athlete doing the same drills as the soccer moms right next to him. I say be did this to himself. His career went bye bye fast
The same can be said for anything that any person does on earth while other people do not agree with such actions.
