      I don’t have many remakes or reboots in my IMDb ratings, especially in the horror genre, but “The Manchurian Candidate” is one I recently re-watched and really appreciated a lot more, Denzel Washington turns in a very good performer, and Liev Schreiber is great in one of his early roles, and there were a lot of lesser known actors who are big these days (Pablo Schreiber, Liev’s half brother I believe, who was great in Den of Thieves, and American Gods, and Jeffrey Wright who was a great Felix Leiter in the Daniel Craig Bond series, and Westworld).

    There's something much more disturbing about people going crazy and killing rather then zombies. With zombies it's more animalistic. A scene with a person using drill on a person head is way more terrifying then if they rushed the person and started eating them.

    I know I’m a little late to this video but the remake of “The Crazies” had parts that were filmed in my home town (like the The scenes on Main Street, the baseball field and several more) and some of my family (as well as several others from my town) were in it the two boy that ride their bikes at the beginning are two of my brothers and my dad was the umpire at the baseball field it was a big deal in my town and it brings a lot of pride to say there was a movie (that was well received) filmed here!

    Completely agree that this is one of the best remake/reboot movies I can think of, absolutely brilliant and doesn’t take anything away from the amazing Romero classic.

    Excellent retrospective. I saw the remake first and enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I had thought it was just another splatterpunk torture-porn fest and was pleasantly surprised. Didn't see the original until fairly recently on a Tom Savini kick and also enjoyed it a lot.

      I'm the complete opposite because I enjoy the original as a semi B movie unintentional comedy because of the acting and red-orange blood effects. Some of the actors are great and some are just bad, but it's clear what Romero was going for and I think the overall story he presented is a bit more interesting than the remake because of the points it hits on, which don't get touched on a lot in movies from the mid 2000s to early 2010s. Still I REALLY like the remake, it's actually a really good movie and I think few Romero remakes are as good. That includes the Dawn of the Dead remake which I personally find to be more draining than anything, and not in a good way, which is a real problem when you contrast it with the original which is just a fun movie with some cool gore effects and zombie pie fights.

    I’m a hardcore Romero fan and mostly hate that people try to make remakes, because the original is great if you view it from the time it was made and was very much a start of a lot of horror. I did really like the remake. On thing is the body horror, which I love, but it was somehow more urgent and panicked. The scene in the hospital with the two women trying to get out of their restraints truly made me feel icky, and although I didn’t really find the ending great, I really enjoyed the movie a lot - it was truly (to me) a very authentic homage to Romeos ideas and creative look into the human psyche.

Just to add a bit more tragedy to the ending really

      I don’t think it goes by blood, remember it was meant to be a biological weapon, likely meant to just poison the enemy water supply and nothing more. It would have been a bit messed up if they deployed in a combat zone, then their soldiers end up getting up from the enemies and bringing it home

    • @maniac7770
      @maniac7770 3 роки тому +3

      @@vincentvalen72 I would disagree. If anything, going by blood would make it all the more effective. After all, if you're deploying it in a combat scenario, you're already, based on the evidence from the movie, expecting to wait a couple days to see the effects, and moreover, if knowingly deploying such an agent, would make sure to maintain distance while the enemy thins their own ranks.

    one thing that i thought about the scene where David and Judy find out what happened to the non infected. They weren't just killed to maintain quarantine but to destroy any evidence of the trixie virus as if word got out there would be a lot of problems internationally.
    Ogden marsh seemed as 'American as apple pie' and many of the town were probably quite patriotic and weren't used to seeing their town from a larger scale. They wouldn't have reason to believe their government didn't care about them.
    Seeing the corpses of their friends shows them how their town looks from a broader perspective in that the US government would sooner let 1200 people vanish off the face of the earth than own up to their mistakes. In some ways the horror of seeing the indifference of a larger power towards your life especially if you thought that the higher power was supposed to protect you is gonna unsettle you to say the least.
    I might be completely wrong on this but

    I thought the remake was great until the third act where David is taken by the mother and son. It seems weird that the two were visibly infected but were coherent enough to explain why they were doing it, rather than leaving it ambiguous. It woulda been so much better if you actually didn't know they were infected and they were just taking advantage of the chaos to get revenge. It's like the villain monologuing his master plan.

While I’d been exposed to a teen slasher like the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, this movie will always get me because it was the first time I was exposed to something so bleakly terrifying. I’d never seen a child death on screen before then. So when the mother and kid died in the beginning, I vividly remember asking my father “they lived, right?” And when he told me no, that new feeling of bleak horror scared me more than.
