I'm Mexican and my gf is Mein, when I asked where they were from ( like what country) I kept getting a confusing answer and it took a while to understand that my question didn't have a definite answer. I appreciate the simplicity of the culture and relate to it. I mean that in the best way possible as mexicans at our core are similar. We are more outwardly emotional, and I didn't realize how awkward I was making it hugging everyone but eventually they all came around and started to enjoy it lol....Thank you for this video.
me as a bataknese tribe of indonesia believe maybe hmong or mien are our ancestor, some say we are tai kadai, we look darker cause tropical climate if we live in china we could have fair skin
My parent originated here my father fought in the war went to the us for a better place was told before my father passed but love to still see the culture but slowly dying 😢
I believe it's just a coincidence that those who migrate out of China only have 12. In China it's called Baimiao(a hundred Miao/Hmongs branches), only a few Hmong subgroups on the border migrate out of China and for Yao (Mien) it's the same, only Pan Yao(Iu Mien)migrate out of China, there're Kim Mien\Zau Mien etc and all different Mien groups combined their surnames can easily over a hundred.
@@Hzxalrqpivx Hmong people didn't always have the current clan system. You ever wonder how it was before Hmong used Chinese surnames for the clan system?
Not anymore! Hmong people come from China. Chiyou is our king, and we had three dynasties to be recorded. The most powerful is Chu Dynasty. Chu originates from Hmong literature, poetry, religion, silver, embroidery, and the economic boom. It made the backwater lands into the most beautiful city before Emperor Qin/Chin burned it down! Emperor Qin is the Adolf Hitler to the Hmong community. He genocide the Hmong people and forced Hanification on the Hmong people. The Hmong are the founding fathers of rice culture, the phoenix, and silver. Chinese people just copied us and stole it! Did you know that Chinese National wine is made by the Hmong people? It's made in Guizhou province of San Miao/三苗地国. They stole that shit too!
Well that's very interesting to know. I always wanted to a 23andMe to find out about my ancestry as a Iu Mien person due to our history the Han ethnic group has caused much harm to the many ethnic groups in China so i know I am not 100% Mien. Nanman are one of the oldest ethnic groups in China. Idk if they're either extinct or not.
That sounds good, but that is not how I heard it. Base on very few documents we have got and very few people actually know how to translate old Chinese so what is really happen was unclear.
Hi Kimberley, thanks for your response and additional information. Yea, you're right that there a few versions of the Panhu Myth. For example, a version that my uncle told me a few years back is slightly different from the versions mentioned in old Chinese sources, especially the names. In the video, I opted to go with the older Chinese version since it was written at a date closer to the beginnings of the Yao (Iu Mien) ethnic marker.
Hmong and Mien are pretty much like brothers or cousins from the San Miao Kingdom. We share the same histories, belief and fought the Han Chinese side by side for thousands of years together.
I am Iu Mien and i love both Mien and Hmong culture and history. We are very interesting people. And they are still finding new historical facts about Mien people in China today. In this video there are some info that i didn't know about.
Mien are native to the Yangtze River. Hmong people lost their beautiful Hmong Chu Dynasty when Emperor Qin/Chin Shi Huang, the menace and the Adolf Hitler to the Hmong community, was an asshole. Hmong people and their origin lie with the Dongyi Dynasty of Emperor Chiyou. Hmong people and Mien are doomed to be best friends for life because of one common enemy: The Han Chinese.

Interesting, in Hmong, we have 12 original clans too in our folk lore and history.

Yes, we grew bigger when the Hmong Rebellion began. We were nine at the beginning, then twelve, and finally 18.
