I liked this one, although WIRY SIMILES bothered me slightly because you don’t remove all the I’s to get WRY SMILES. Still a nice smooth solve overall.
Indeed, it doesn't fit the pattern of the rest of the theme clues at all - bit of a letdown in an otherwise decent crossword.
Surely the theme is that we’re *adding* an ‘i’ into each half of pre-existing phrases, not removing them from the puzzle’s answers
Fun solve as always :)
You actually guessed PLIABLE GENIUSES rather than PLIANT earlier on - if you'd noticed that was one letter too long you might have got it there and then!
DEA: Drug Enforcement Administration
No Mow May helps encourage early pollinators growth for spring bees. My neighbours just think I'm lazy. ;-)
After a plague of moles I stopped being able to use my lawn mower. That was OK because I'm a dab hand with a scythe and have a strimmer. However my back issues ( scoliosis) are worsening so I have to limit the use of those now. I have about three quarters of an acre of grass amongst lots of trees. Lots of wild flowers now and pollinators like wild bees and hoverflies.
My other rewards have been an explosion of slug numbers which attack everything I try to grow. A huge population now of woodmice which ate every single beetroot this year , despite me being able to hear tawny owls calling in the trees every night. It's quite eerie to sit in the kitchen at midnight and hear them sounding off.
Probably the worst side effect is that the garden is now loaded with ticks from the deer that visit and I got bitten twice last year ( with the target mark coming up and me having to go on antibiotics ) . Now when I'm fruit picking or scything etc I have to wear those white zip up DIY suits to try and spot the attacking ticks. Makes my house look like it's a crime scene ! Nothing is ever simple.
I thought stag parties were UK only terminology.
UK it's Stag Do and Hen Do. My Irish BIL and his brother both once asked me about my Christmas Work Do when we got together in December and I was really confused both times they asked.
