Karen approves of The Punisher's methods because she killed Wesley and wants someone to agree that was the right thing to do, even though Matt doesn't know what she did yet.
It's not only that. Matt's standpoint is of someone who CAN protect himself. She doesn't know it but we DO know that Matt isn't as scared of those bastards on the streets. Regular people are. ESPECIALLY women. If you notice, this show showed it too when picking jurors. Most of those who approved of Punisher were women.
I think it also has to do a little with how some women sympathize with mass murderers/serial killers, to the point of even writing them in prison or getting married to them. Obviously Frank isn’t your average serial killer, but he’d definitely fall into that category (at least by Federal standards), and draws a lot of support from women (both in this show and his own). Karen, Madani, the girl he runs with in season two of Punisher. All these women know who he is, what he does, but they don’t run for the hills.
I think Karen needs to believe that Frank is a good person even though he's a murderer, since she is a murderer too. Some people would argue that she shot in self defense because, technically, Wesley was unarmed after she took the gun. He and Kingpin would have come back and killed her later though, if she hadn't done it. She also has a mysterious past that we have yet to learn about. She told Wesley, "Do you really think this is the first time I've shot someone?" So there's that.
Just to Aaron's statement about the guy who killed the old lady not being part of Punisher's vengeance for his family; That dude was actually from the Irish. He probably wasn't directly involved in the death of Frank's family, but he was part of one of the gangs who were there. The only kill Punisher was shown to do that wasn't part of his revenge was the store owner with the kiddyporn.
Also, I really like Batman's explanation for this debate between vigilantism vs vigilante murder from Under the Red Hood. That's basically my standpoint, that anyone who steps over the edge could easily keep walking. When the choice of life and death is left up to one man, you're left hoping that he doesn't change his definition of guilty.
TheTrueCampori I doubt anyone will actually see these but I do agree however I also think that in a few examples vigilante murder is justified if the government does not kill the people that they can not hold. For example how many times has the joker escaped from prison at this point?
@@gummybearchewy5444 I saw this. I honestly would have preferred if the Red Hood had actually killed the Joker in that movie, since it was where his character arc was going.
The worst monsters need trials rather than vigilantism because for every ten true monsters there may be one falsely accused or framed or a scapegoat. It isn't about God offering the chance of redemption it should be about filling in where the Law cannot keep up. Daredevil is not judge or jury but Punisher claims both. Matt needs both parts of himself, not abandoning the lawyer or the vigilante but finding balance.
Karen is content with killing. She sees Frank as an exaggerated version of herself. She wants to find goodness in him, some justification for his actions because she wants to feel justified herself. She feels something along the lines of, "I killed a man, but the world is better because he can no longer hurt me or others." She is subliminally trying to share this feeling with Matt so maybe one day she can tell him what she did and he won't see her as an unredeemable killer, the was she thinks Matt see the Punisher. As you can see from this episode Matt doesn't feel the same way about killing but in many stories, he does cross that line and he does kill. The "Born again" storyline was also hinted at on multiple occasions so it is a possibility that in season 3, Matt will go on this dark path and Karens dark past will be revealed.
How I see it, Karen was scared of Frank at first because she didn't understood what he was doing. It was just a guy killing people, but then she got to know more about his story and I think that changed how she saw him and it made her feel better about what she did too. Most people forget how she killed someone in season one, someone who was a bad guy and she saw Frank being justified in his actions and she thought that if he could be redeemed so could she, because she too made something justified. In her case it wasn't justice or revenge, but killing someone is killing someone, and she haven't told anyone. If Matt can't understand why she thinks Frank deserves a second chance then maybe he won't give a second chance to her either. Of course this is all from the character point of view, not taking into consideration if I think is right or wrong. Just trying to make it more clear on why is important to Karen that Matt understands where she's coming from in that scene.
It is an important distinction for Matt Murdoch precisely because he is a catholic. It about redemption for him and you can't repent when you are dead. When Punisher get to people... they die, when Daredevil gets to them, they likely get seriously injured but are alive with the chance to repent.
+Max Smith oh well than you should take persona of frogman because of your sad backstory and good idea for a comic book.Dude you should patent that before someone takes it.
Loved the debate in the review guys! Personally, I totally root for characters who are driven by revenge and vengeance, be it the Punisher or Prince Oberyn from GoT. But I think Daredevil is correct in drawing a line with not killing people. His goal is to bring the criminals in the justice system by hook or crook while Punisher's goal is to bring them to Justice which as Eric said cant be left for just one person to decide. Sidenote: Aaron's catch about symbolism with the glass shattering blew my mind. Cant wait for the reaction of episode 8.
After you guys finish Season 2 of Daredevil, you guys should watch The Philosophy of Marvel's Daredevil. It explains a lot behind all the character's motivations.

Blind Wave guys - I have to ask, where do you find all these fun t-shirts? You've got Nelson & Murdock Law Firm, the DD insignia, now Josie's, along with all sorts of shirts you wear for the various shows (like Hydra and Agents of SHIELD). I'm just curious if you find them from various places online that you can share with us? Obviously, I understand some things may not be available anymore, given that you made this particular video 4 years ago, but I'm just talking in general. If your rationale for killing murderers is based on the premise of "law is just a human made concept" then why would a murderer need to be punished at all? If you're going to invalidate a concept just because it's human-made, you're going to have to invalidate all of it, and law covers a lot more than the nature of criminal punishment. Throwing out the parts you don't like is just intellectually dishonest. Hell, you'd have to throw out the notions of loss, grief, life and death along with basically everything else that motivated us to have laws in the first place if that's the stance you're going to take. They're all just human concepts, after all. The universe doesn't care about any of those things.

Remember Karen killed Fisk's right hand man(Wesley) in season 1. She's conflicted because she knows how it feels to kill the "Bad guy".
Oh yes!! Really good point. That does convey Karen's motivation in siding with the Punisher.
Good point, this is definitely something that I've been forgetting about.
I think Karen needs to believe that Frank is a good person even though he's a murderer, since she is a murderer too.

There is a big difference between a murderer and a killer. All soldiers are killers, but only a few are murderers.
They both killed people who murder for money or otherwise think nothing of harming the innocents for their own pleasure or profit. Boo hoo.
