Destiny talks to Jesse Singal ( twitter.com/jessesingal ) about trans issues, his twitch ban, Trump and more... PS Timestamps and chapters are unavailable atm.
Lol you leftists are in a rude awakening because even your "standard Obama liberal" takes are uniting conservatives and moderates against the left on these topics. The condescending attitude Democrats have displayed towards perfectly reasonable positions like don't transition children and keep sex education out of kindergarten is not going to end well. People are willing to kill to protect their kids from this stuff. A lot of the backlash to this stuff is coming from blue school districts. What exactly do you think is going to happen if a teacher in rural Texas or Florida tries to groom a 1st grader into being non binary? Our sheriffs encourage people to kill home invaders to avoid wasting the taxpayer dime. Loudoun County isn't Paris, TX. Honestly you leftists really need to start holding your own accountable because the right is willing to do anything to stop predation of children by the left. You are coming dangerously close to breaking down polite peaceful society when you start going after other people's kids. This "journalist" may have a condescending attitude about rural America but I've seen otherwise reasonable centrists start to say some extremely based things about what they will do if their kids are affected. The pendulum swift is inevitable and i don't think you're going to like it. Florida Republicans willing to damage or even destroy Disney would have been unthinkable but you've now re-elevated social conservatism after the GOP was trying to move away from it.
also I couldn't get past like the 3rd or 4th boss on dark souls 2 and just admitted I will never be able to beat those games.. Respect to anyone that can. Idk how yall do it. I thought I learned from playing KH on proud mode.. NOPE.
It seems like Destiny hates the circle-jerky conversations, but I enjoy these the most by far. Heated debates with extremists are more popular, but that stuff is really just painful to listen to after the second or third time, and there's a new one every few days. It gets exhausting. Listening to two people just talk like humans and maybe mildly agree/disagree on things while keeping a generally pleasant atmosphere is pretty soothing for me.
I like the more aggressive debates but recently I’ve been really enjoying the casual chats like with this guy and Brittany. It’s nice to see someone who’s quick witted and able to keep up on par with the convos or the direction of it.
I mean they both acknowledge that they are not part of the normal crowd given their interest in politics, but sure lol. What you are really saying is its nice to listen to someone who says things that don't bother you.
@@0doublezero0 lmao NO, big wrong. We see that there are all types of people capable of honest engagement. Simply that far left people TEND to be more full of shit and react poorly to triggering speech rather than the content of what was said
@@0doublezero0 why is it that it has been said multiple time by destiny that conservatives are the easiest to talk to and most “friendly” for lack of a better term
@@0doublezero0 yes, one is a person and the other is a relatively massive group of people with diverse opinions on everything. I’m not the one that pretended the audience is a monolith
I hold anyone who held the stance of "ignore them, they're just crazy college kids" partially responsible for the current culture. Is it so hard to understand that today's college students are tomorrow's speakers, debaters, and policymakers?
But is it actually people who go to universities who think that way? Havent met any of them irl yet. Sounds more like people who visit 1 semester and then drop out but think they have unique insights...
@@karimshebeika8010 The university I attended was very polar; the graduate students were all very far left, and nearly got a communist party elected head of the student union, whereas the freshmen all seemed to be TikTok obsessed and were very unreceptive of the progressive policy being pushed by most of the political science graduate students who almost exclusively held office in the student body government.
To be fair, this was the received wisdom for a long time. People forget that the boomers were the hippy generation who were supposed to usher in an age of us all becoming vegan flower children. Fact is, they mellowed out as they got older and realized the problems of the world can’t be cut through so concisely. I do kind’ve agree with Destiny’s take that the major difference is the media landscape. What was in the past usually just considered a rebellious phase is now blasted onto social media and reverberated back to you as the most righteous cause ever.
Came back to this and gave it a rewatch before listening to Blocked and Reported episode 195. Great talk, definitely think you two should talk again soon!
this convo was a good example of fair and responsible platforming, they talked about cringe left wing stuff, while repeating their left wing beliefs when relevant, then also spoke about similar or worse stuff happening on the right, all in all giving a bird's eye view about the whole political environment
@@Saint_Sigismund I’m talking about this idea that coverage of a topic isn’t fair unless you cover both sides. All you need to do is not lie. Be honest. Modern media just lies non stop everyday.
As a conservative gay dude, this is one of the best conversations I've heard in a while. Both of them were really cool about things here. Good understanding, and interesting topics. I don't always agree with Destiny but I have major respect for the way he handles himself.
I read this guy's Atlantic article and it was so well written and researched. Really well done, I personally felt really empathized with and could relate to so many of the stories he shared of young women and girls struggling with misogyny and that affecting their relationship with their sex/body/identity :) bring this dude back plz
As a lowly UA-cam VOD viewer (unrelated), I think you should have more conversations with people like this. I imagine they’re hard to find, and the spicier debates are probably more lucrative, but I think conversations like these are better for exploring ideas and eventually dealing with any disagreements that come up. I like it slow and steady
Refreshing to hear Steven have an agreeable conversation with a fellow traveller. His blood pressure must have been thankful for a relaxed one for once.
I find it quite ironic that the same group of people who so often advertise being nonessentialist, are promoting more essentialist behavior than even some conservatives.
I looked up what gawker is saying about Singal lately and lmao. The article is still not kind to him so I’m wondering what they said initially. But here are their appended corrections. Update: In an email to Gawker after this post published, Singal asked us to clarify: “Hey guys - my article in The Atlantic doesn’t make “an argument against transition care.” I’m in favor of transition care, and I’m pretty explicit about this in the piece. The question is basically what the assessment process should look like for minors seeking puberty blockers or hormones. Can you correct that? Thanks. -Jesse.” Update II: Singal emailed us again: “It’s obviously not enough for you guys to leave the false claim in the piece and then include my email at the bottom - you really just need to correct it. Come on, guys.” We have updated the relevant text.
I think it's because he just keeps burning bridges when he gets ticked-off. Ends up saying stuffs he wouldn't say if he was level headed, but he would then double down due to the pride of being right. Social networking is more important than political takes for streamers, even political streamers.
Banning Destiny is just cutting off good faith content and it's so obvious. Every big streamer has said offensive stuff that could be compiled to make them look bad, many worse than destiny.
@@chaucerianfraud6767 transphobia is a huge issue and exists but some of the activists aren’t strategic as they call everything transphobia so carelessly. They ignore some of the difficult conversations that need to be had not about their existence but for how society needs to operate.

@@lindboknifeandtool I think it’s cuz they can’t even see ppl on the left rationalizing their positions. I’m right in the middle but I watch a lot of right content. Just watched a Brandon tatum video about how accepting your kid as gay is “grooming children”. The right gets kinda weird sometimes too
I saw Destiny at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
What irritates me is there is no conversation surrounding men who take testosterone to transition from male to alpha male. I started TRT 4 months ago and have never felt more mentally stable, stronger, or less confused over all. I’m feeling great in general, where as before I was an emotional blob and ready to throw myself off a bridge. Low testosterone in men is a huge issue today that would solve a lot of problems that is largely going unchecked. It’s very stigmatized and viewed as “toxic male behavior.”
Does this involve injections? Could you point to any info available online about this? I struggle with addiction and have always been wary of testosterone/steroids but I have also worried about low testosterone
@@Sampsonoff when I initially got tested I had a total testosterone level of 115. My free testosterone was at 11. I basically had the testosterone levels of a 95 year old man that was dying.
@@xXIDanIZz It does involve injections. I use insulin syringes they are a half an inch long. I usually go in my butt fat. You can hardly feel it. I hated needles also. But the desperation to get better outweighed everything and any fears I had. My only regret was waiting so long to have my levels checked initially and wish I had started treatment sooner. It’s saved my life.
1:06:06 this segment (edit: about a potential future of U.S. political parties) is worth rewatching. I can't help but feel a sense of optimism hearing it -- maybe it will indeed bring about a new age of republicans that are closer to the center.
@Active Measures closer to the center =/= theyre far right now. you just hear what you wanna hear mate. you just have to follow how they 1 by 1 have conversations from jan 6th leaked and deny them despite the physical evidence of them writing or saying things. all i want is fucking respectable people whos word is worth something as elected officials.
The student loan debt issue is really deceptive - the people who have majority *government* held student loan debt are usually in a not-terrible space, and ultimately there is the release valve of the government could forgive that debt. America has a huge private college/for profit college problem, however. There are a lot of people who took out private loans and financing for education that cost way too much and which will return most likely a lot less. And the government can't forgive that debt.
Imo I think a lot of "non-binary" people are just those who don't like a lot of socially prescribed gender roles because they can't or don't want to fit into them. They're the exact same people that were "androgynous" in the 80s, like David Bowie or whatever. Almost all of the non-binary people I've personally met have been white guys who just based on their appearance and personality probably suffered a LOT of bullying early in life for not being masculine enough. It's no wonder they don't quite feel like men if they've been made fun of through their entire developmental period for not being manly enough. Saying they're non-binary almost feels like a way to head off that criticism, like yeah yeah I know you don't see me as a real man so I agree with you, I'm not a real man, I'm kind of a woman too because I'm shy and cry all the time or w/e. If we socially expanded the acceptable range of ways to be a man, I think non-binary would mostly disappear.
I think it’s a way to disregard all beauty standards. I’ve always thought about this too. I feel if men were allowed to look any way they want there wouldn’t be people announcing they’re non binary. I feel the same way about transgender people. You wouldn’t think “I’m in the wrong body” if every body type was acceptable.
I guess I'll play the counter-narrative here. I get people talking about NB without dysphoria being what you're describing, but NB identities with dysphoria would still exist as sort of a necessary conclusion of how we frame the trans experience currently. If someone has genuine dysphoria and it's triggered by their pronouns, and transitioning genders doesn't resolve this, a NB identity still serves the function in that case. NB is functionally the catch-all for dysphoria that goes both ways as I see it. However I have trouble reconciling this with people who present one gender, then say their pronouns are like he/they, which is why I draw the dysphoria distinction.
4:00 this happened to me on twitter. i write hundreds of tweets stating progressive values over the years, and nobody gives a shit. then a few years ago i posted one thing that could (apparently) be misinterpreted as being not progresssive, and I have about 3,000 mentions telling me I'm a serial killer with women locked in my basement for saying what I said and how it's wrong. and they start explaining what they disagree with ---- and it's the opposite of what I actually said. the overall theme of my post was basically about how we should reduce the shit that wait staff has to put up with from assholes, and these people were at-ing me explaining how I'm terrible for wanting wait staff to have to put up with more assholes. it was really actually traumatic. like legit. I still get random mentions of people harassing me about something i don't even believe. I can understand this kind of shit going to Destiny who routinely says inflammatory things, but I'm some random guy on twitch who has less than 100 followers and tries to be positive and progressive, but none of that mattered instantly. it's nuts.
If we use Destiny's definition of "non-binary," I'd guess that most people would be "non-binary" then. I could be wrong, but I don't think most people actively think about their gender. They're just living as themselves which more or less doesn't lead to active thoughts about gender.
@@Lewa500 Damn, you think so? I was actually having a convo w/ my friend about this. I think it'd be fun lol and I wouldn't really care. I'd have the initial shock if I was thanos snapped into a woman's body, but I'd adjust rather quickly to the experience. Maybe I'm just an outlier. Could be the case
Um, well I know my wife and kids would have a panic attack, that's some otherworldly shit waking up as a different sex. If you guys just mean gender as in how you feel, then that would be dysphoria and probably also not good. Self acceptance is a far cry from acceptance of how the world treats you, and you won't know until you live it.
@@Lewa500 i have no idea how such a hypothetical meaningfully constitutes an identity. I would love to wake up in the body of a chipmunk, does that mean that have some sort of meaningful non-human identity?
1:18:00 Yeah, I definitely have noticed this. I mess around on my city's subreddit, and since reddit became an absolute echochamber (mainly by merging upvotes and downvotes, making it impossible for the average person in the minority to get any positive reinforcement or recognition), it is shocking how my local city subreddit is just increasingly divorced from reality. We have had serious conversations about tearing out a four lane major artery to move it four blocks south, to run it across a rail yard that the city doesn't own and past 3 schools in a 1.5 block radius. this would cost every resident in the city, living in the area, not living in the area, THOUSANDS of dollars. It's insane. you don't tear out four lane highways to move them four blocks. You especially don't do it without first walking the area and realizing "oh, this entire thing is a giant school zone, which is why no one drives down it right now". We have had serious conversations about how we can coexist with the drug addicts making our LRT system completely unusable, and it's all "how can we coexist with the people living in the LRT, who CLEARLY have no idea whatsoever what things actually cost. In my city, the last public bathroom we built cost about 500k, probably 600-700k now after inflation. MAYBE 800-900k. If you look at what the LRT cost, IGNORING inflation (Which is huge as we built it in the late 70''s), it costs over 50 million dollars per stop. the LRT must be an LRT. If it can ALSO be a farmer's market, or public washrooms, or homeless shelter, or whatever, great. but it MUST be an LRT, because only an LRT costs 50 million dollars per location. But the people having this conversation are completely unaware of the basic math involved, because this is what a conservative would bring. It's the conservatives that just ignore the humanitarian concerns and feeling sorry for the drug addicts terrifying commuters away, and say "well, what numbers apply to this situation"? While the liberals are debating completely irrelevant facts, like "how can we accommodate people" who are frankly, VASTLY LESS important, because we could meet their needs in another building which would cost one hundred times less than the thing they are destroying by misusing it.
Destiny was making a good point or points and twitch hated it it’s a bit stupid I’d understand if everyone but his community hated it but it’s just a wrongly decided situation it’s like people think having a different opinion is now horrible or violent or people want echo chambers or to close there ears and act as if they know it all while ignoring hard truths things aren’t gonna be all sunshine and rainbows
I don't think the people at twitch really care about how good meaning he is or how correct he is. All they see are groups of people complaining about the same guy over and over again, and because Destiny streams for hours on different topics, it becomes super easy to find criminating material against him.
@@chaucerianfraud6767 Haha, fair point. Better to not use them at all than to use them incorrectly. Though I believe most people should be able to use them correctly enough to be understood better than if they didn't.
1:02:15 Because only people detached from the issue of homelessness think you can just dump money and fix it. Shelters will always be overwhelmed and attract crime, housing is more responsibility than many/most chronically homeless people want, drugs and mental health issues are central to the issue and complicate things greatly. It’s a huge weight that constantly smashed through “rock bottom” to new lows
While there are things I disagree on with Destiny, with Jeese being more grounded in some aspects, I do respect conversations like this and honestly think it's good for the left to understand where they are and how they can convince more people to their policies, it's best we understand each other rather than make strawmen and think it's solving something, the problem is some in the left and right tends to fit these strawmen which makes it kinda hard to know where both sides priorities actually are, it's something I want to see both sides do a lot more frankly
Add some more serious Conservative outlets to your reading: Commentary Magazine, National Review. Not telling you to agree with them (thought I do), but these outlets are more useful for understanding the intellectual right. You can see the better arguments on the right, not whatever Tim Pool is babbling today.
@Active Measures we don’t need a National divorce. We need to make more issues locally controlled. Very few things need to be decided at a national level. The left often wants to have a national approach to everything and over the last eight years the Tucker Carlson Right has decided to agree with them. Let Mississippi be Mississippi and let Oregon be Oregon (and no, that doesn’t mean I want localized disenfranchisement (though by the looks of it, the voting age should be raised)).
@Active Measures here's how that goes, within a year, the left country has effectively purged anyone right of Hasan and is effectively a anarchistic state. Within about a year in the right, there will have been so many coups from Nazis to neocons to libertarians that there would be no one left to run the country.
I think a lot of people online who ask questions about stuff like trans issues are immediately perceived to be asking it in a challenging way, like they’re trying to attack the position, which for the people who automatically interpret it that way should probably see that as an indicator that they are online too much.
The big problem that has arisen with the trans thing is the *LEGIT vs. FAKE* domain on the subject. Unfortunately, you can't tell who is who - it's all self-reported and considered sacrosanct now. At least internally in the trans activist world. Which sucks, because the request of society to accept these terms is going to be nearly impossible. Thus the "trans struggle" is going to drag out for decades (in their minds). When the societal answer for most of this crap is simply "no" . But they won't take the answer. They'll consider it oppression and evil "normativity" that all this identity crap isn't adopted with open arms. It's a viscous circle of two completely opposed worldviews, that will never meet. As for "legit" and "non-legit" - it's a serious question. Too many consider it hate, but they're burying their heads in the sand. *Trans identification has spiked 4000% (yes, 40X) in only the last 10 years* Yikes. Something is amiss. Prior to 2012, trans people were merely a very tiny, predictable, constant percentage of the LGBT population. Never changing across all the decades we counted them. They were the legit "born-this-way" transgender (transsexual) people. We can call them the "1X" constant, that has been around for 70+ years. Never changing. As constant a number as gays, lesbians, etc. BUT TODAY we have this new "39X" on top of that group. EVEN if we pretend there was some genetic birth developmental flaw in only 10 years, and natural occurrence of trans people DOUBLED - that would make them "2X" the constant of 70+ years. That still leaves this new "38X" we cannot account for. So what gives? Nobody is talking about this. To me, I consider this a social contagion. It's a real problem - because youth are permanently altering their physical being over this crap. This isn't choosing to be an emo, or a goth, or a punk. Those were merely a style of dress and makeup. Trans is serious business - and hormonal/surgical transition is a decision FOR LIFE. My belief is the "38X" are errors. Mistakes. Definitely choices/confusion. (Definitely not "born this way") Identity playthings. They are going to be the ruination of societal adoption of these concepts - because they aren't even real trans people. They're playing in a sandbox... and no society is going to seriously adopt adult sex/gender play. No more than they will accept adults who are Furries with a fursona. I propose that at maximum, 2X are real, 38X are acting out. So yes, I am unironically saying that *95% of trans people in 2022* are errors. Not to be taken seriously. And NONE of those people are going to their graves at age 90, buried as trans people. Still playing the role. Nope, don't believe it. I mean, biologically, statistically, and scientifically it's impossible. An additional 95% of trans people, over a baseline 5% that was constant for decades, HAS TO be chosen/made-up... unless we have a serious radiation / birth developmental problem / something in the water situation! This is the scary part. This 4000% spike is all headed to transition, and almost all are headed down the rabbit hole of hormones, name changes, ID changes, and surgeries. Once this gender identity craze wears out (all crazes do - they change every 15 years or so) ... we're going to have an epidemic of broken/ruined lives on our hands. Since this has only been a decade... all these people are still under 30, and holding onto their choices alongside everyone else holding onto theirs. It's a circle of affirmation and happy times. But the shoe eventually has to drop. How many will make it to 30, 35, 40... and still carry the pantomime? We need another 10-20 years to see this fully through. To see if today's 95% actually UPHOLD LIVING A LIVE as a trans person to middle age and beyond. Hmmmm. The 5% "legit" trans people will ! The rest will not. That is my prediction. And because this whole trans movement (today) is built on this vast majority of made-up identity play cases, completely non-genuine, and completely chosen... then I also don't care about the activist movement and it's demands. Society won't either. Because like I said earlier, society don't play these silly "games of dungeons and dragons" in the form of gender identities. Grown ass adults projecting themselves as these characters they came up with... not going to fly. People are going to get tired of it, really fast. Which is too bad, because REAL trans people exist in the population. But they are swamped by the presence of all the fakes and actors and unstable mentally ill copers. For every 1 trans person... 9 more are fake. That's really really bad odds, and thus nothing we can build serious societal policy upon.
After listening to this, I didn't realize how much I wanted Destiny to be the anti-Pool :( I'd love to see a couple streams a week debunking Tim specifically.
Pool has gone from "I'm actually a liberal" in 2019 to unironically stanning Trump in 2022, as well as getting into that paranoic, conpiratorial, conservative right wing aisle. As a guy that fluctuates between centre-left and centre-right, I dont like him that much anymore.
I’m confused how we can think a child can consent to HRT or surgeries and yet agree age of consent should remain 18. Seems to me a child should have to wait until they are more mature to be able to make irreversible health decisions.
theres a shitton of things parents decide for their kids that theyd have to consent to as an adult, cuz theyre, you know, kids. little boys get their foreskin chopped off in the name of religion left and right, without consent. its a highly contested subject, with terrible outcomes on both sides (non-aligning puberty for actual transpeople / blocked puberty for falsely diagnosed kids).
Don't very young kids also get a say in which parent they want to live with in some divorce cases? Is that also something you think should be just up to courts/parents?
Jon Stewart re: Crossfire quote - Jon didn't say that he shouldn't have any political responsibility, but rather that the societal duty to provide honest and good discussion and information for political issues rested far more heavily on a show on a *news* network than a half hour weekend update segment. You can't honestly say that Norm McDonald doing the weekend update bit on SNL has any sort of political or news "responsibility", the same for Jon Stewart with the Daily Show. The great thing about Jon Stewart at the daily show (and still now, he hasn't gone full Colbert so I think people be draggin him a little too hard as of late) was that he WAS informative and he DID show responsibility to his audience, all while maintaining the humor latent in poking at the perversity of our government - on both the left and the right.
I feel like the solution to the information issue is changing our culture, with regards to the expectations consumers should have for content, the ethics journalists (and those in the political comedy sphere, I suppose) have in presenting stories, and the economic goal of a news organization. Yeah, news organizations are not profitable. Why not just make it non-profit? Idk, maybe this is too insane for the market-oriented obsession of our culture right now, but I think it'd be at least worth a try.
My thoughts are the same. Media organizations should be forced to be non-profits or state-owned and be beholden to strict ethics and misinformation regulations. Of course, this doesn't solve the problem of Fox News, which is legally classified as an entertainment company. They have successfully argued in court that the misinformation they spread should not be taken seriously and no reasonable person would believe it. There needs to be some definition of "news agency" that encompasses charlatans like them.
When your solution starts with "change the culture" then your solution is untenable. Sure that'd be nice but it's like saying "the solution to violent crime is changing our culture" Possibly technically true, but not valuable.
@@Saint_Sigismund "nothing can or will ever change" is a very Destiny take, great job taking after your "this is the best things will ever get"-style apologist leader. Keep belittling people who can identify problems and suggest better tomorrows, brother! (:

A lot of conservatives in the comments here seem to be pretty misinformed on transgenderism in children. I highly recommend you read the Jesse Singal article on transgender children in the Atlantic. Can’t link so you can just Google it.
Call me old fashioned but I think labeling all this stuff but not having concrete definitions is just a waste of time. If you're "non binary" just because you don't have machismo, that's just not worth my time to hear you say it. Definitions of "not this" are terrible definitions. Interesting talk tho
It's crazy. I'm on board with the whole biological sex vs socially constructed gender. Cool fine. So why the fuck are you guys now mad at things like sports that are specifically defined by biological sex.
@@blurryperson2685 yeah I don't get that, it seems like the "trans" doesn't even come into play in that sports discussion yet it is framed around that. Nothing about the sports arguments revolves around actually being trans, but just athletes taking HRT.
All the cringy stuff liberals do is an attempt to placate far left retards. Either they get the idea too well, or they don't get it at all, but the core action is to placate far lefties.
Yeah but cringe liberal stuff comes from legacy media outlets so everyone just laughs at it usually. (Like those insane WaPo articles talking about how billionaires need MORE power in society)
Jesse Singal is such a reasonable guy and great journalist. Exactly how we should be skeptical of cultural left excess without abandoning basic left principles. Could listen to him all day. Y’all should check out his podcast with Katie Herzog.
That’s what it seems to be about. When an openly gay guy suddenly identifies as trans… doesn’t change his behavior, his appearance, his sexual preferences and doesn’t even care which pronouns you use… then maybe it’s really just for clout.😂
Hell yeah, use their own braod definitions against them. The right might consider you a 'straight white man' but to the left self-identify as a 'bisexual, non binary, trans, masc presenting immigrant'. What are they going to do? Invalidate your identity? That's transphobic!
I think part of the difficulty is that like... I think some trans people have this perplexing thing when trying to figure out WHY they feel trans... And what that is is the simple fact that IF they were the other sex then they would be able to do everything they want and look exactly how they want as a woman without ANY social stigma nor any procedures of any kind... That's just a fact... Does that then mean they want to be the other sex? Or that being the other sex would just make all the things they want easier? It's like trying to figure out what came first the chicken or the egg, but all of it is in your mind and it was all being figured out by your mind back before you really had the mental faculties to think too critically about it so you're only really able to reflect on your past thoughts/experiences to reach your conclusion... And memory in people notoriously also has its issues and it can be pretty difficult if not impossible to sort of psychoanalyze yourself... So yeah... I don't think a lot of trans people know for sure if it's being the other sex they'd want or just being able to be similar (to a greater or lesser extent) to that other sex with absolutely no effort on their part and no backlash... And they also wouldn't have to think about it really which is another thing because that's also stressful in itself whereas cis people just float on by largely without even really giving it much thought...
I'm curious of what Destiny thinks about ideas regarding tearing down cities. Focusing on small cities in areas like Flint and Detroit seem really intriguing to me if it would work. Dan Kildee talks about this alot and the idea of increasing property owners and building civic nationalism is attractive. Rather than having a country of angry renters I'd like invested families. Problem for me is center right politicians don't talk about this and the locals embedded there don't like it.
More specifically I mean a govt taking two properties and tearing down the house on one. Say two houses are side by side, you'd sell the lot to the neighbor dirt cheap and they'd still pay tax on it. Then instead of abandoned houses you have a family with a driveway or swing set or tree. It's more attractive, more beneficial for tax collecting purposes and encourages investment
I don't think having a college degree makes as much of a difference as it does the stock of person who can achieve a college degree themselves. its like... correlation, not causation. There's SOME causation though; proving your skill in a certain field, proving your work ethic, etc. but its entirely possible to achieve those benefits without a formal education. I don't have statistics at hand, but I'm confident there's a vast swathe of graduates who are not able to apply their education to their work, and as such earning about as much as someone who didn't.
If anyone is interested in the complicated relationship between news and entertainment, check out Neil Postman and his book Amusing Ourselves to Death. It was written in 1985 but has some prescient thoughts on why making news and politics into entertainment is potentially harmful.
I'll check that out. That entire concept has become one of my core beliefs and I think a huge part of the problem is that entertaining news has a huge influence on social behavior. I know that even moderate leftists hate Rogan because of his Covid takes but if you remove that one issue, he's pretty likeable and not all that controversial. I'm not defending him but I used to listen to his podcast and 90% of his content has a positive message. Regardless, the way that news has morphed into infotainment has made it impossible to return back to normal news presentation. People that complain about news polarization demand changes to fix it but have no idea that they are describing C-span. And obviously, none of these people will ever switch to C-span because they like having news anchors who editorialize and tell them what to think.
Isn't it easier and more plausible to bring the mind in line with the body rather than the body with the mind? Seems the former is possible and the latter is impossible.

Right wingers are by nature more open to criticism and hearing out dissenting opinions. It's the usual "facts vs feelings" thing. The left centers on the latter, and gets really offended when you don't agree, which helps creating much smaller and closed echochambers.
So I understand the cringe with hyper focusing on student debt cancellation, but with the understanding that college degrees provide great economic opportunities and higher education leads to many great societal outcomes, wouldn’t we not want financial debt to be a limiting factor in that? What are some other good solutions to encourage people to achieve higher education if they are financially unable?

You wouldn’t think “I’m in the wrong body” if every body type was acceptable.
exactly. it’s regressive.
If we socially expanded the acceptable range of ways to be intelligent, I think retardation would mostly disappear.
I just think it's white people who want to feel oppressed.
If people “hated” Trump so much, why would they vote for him again?
That's what I was wondering too...
I can understand this kind of shit going to Destiny who routinely says inflammatory things, but I'm some random guy on twitch who has less than 100 followers and tries to be positive and progressive, but none of that mattered instantly. it's nuts.
The content, inject it into my veins
If we use Destiny's definition of "non-binary," I'd guess that most people would be "non-binary" then. I could be wrong, but I don't think most people actively think about their gender. They're just living as themselves which more or less doesn't lead to active thoughts about gender.
The difference is that most people, probably, would freak out if they woke up as the opposite sex (and gender). Destiny wouldn't.

Really recommend Jesse and Katie's podcast Blocked and Reported.
It sounded like Singal said he wouldn't want kids getting on HRT or surgery at such a young age, even if he thinks a 4 year old can be trans.
@@SixFootTurkey_ does he mention at what age he thinks is appropriate?
@@spifflord308 I'm not sure
theres a shitton of things parents decide for their kids that theyd have to consent to as an adult, cuz theyre, you know, kids. little boys get their foreskin chopped off in the name of religion left and right, without consent. its a highly contested subject, with terrible outcomes on both sides (non-aligning puberty for actual transpeople / blocked puberty for falsely diagnosed kids).
Don't very young kids also get a say in which parent they want to live with in some divorce cases? Is that also something you think should be just up to courts/parents?

Oh how the turns have tabled
Sure that'd be nice but it's like saying "the solution to violent crime is changing our culture"
Possibly technically true, but not valuable.

Cringy social stuff is put forward by every side of the political spectrum
The particular crazy social stuff he talks about comes out of the far left.
All the cringy stuff liberals do is an attempt to placate far left retards.

Jesse Singal is such a reasonable guy and great journalist. Exactly how we should be skeptical of cultural left excess without abandoning basic left principles. Could listen to him all day. Y’all should check out his podcast with Katie Herzog.

Claiming non-binary to get that lefty clout.

1:18:42 well maybe you shouldnt have advocated for there removal
I don't think having a college degree makes as much of a difference as it does the stock of person who can achieve a college degree themselves. its like... correlation, not causation. There's SOME causation though; proving your skill in a certain field, proving your work ethic, etc. but its entirely possible to achieve those benefits without a formal education.
I don't have statistics at hand, but I'm confident there's a vast swathe of graduates who are not able to apply their education to their work, and as such earning about as much as someone who didn't.
Does anyone know what Jesse was referring to when he mentioned someone was burned alive, I think it was about the Kenosha protest?
