    Great work, mate! I am looking for a noise/heat solution for my U1700L and I do like the look of this kit. I bet the freight to NZ is a minor lottery win, though!

      Thank you! Contact Atkinson Vos and see what they say. I know they ship stuff around the world all the time. Hope it’s not too expensive! Good luck! 🤞🏻😎👍🏻

    Subbed. I'm surprised that there is not a spray on product for noise suppression for vehicles, like an expanding foam

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  4 роки тому

      Thanks and welcome, Chris! There probably is such a product, but I don’t know of it. We will probably end up using spray foam for the camper insulation, but that’s temperature, not noise. The underside of the cab is coated with something that looks as if it was sprayed on, no idea what it is though. Cheers! 😎👍🏻

      @@JockeSelin I wonder if multiple layers of rubber latex paint would achieve anything? 🤔🇦🇺

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  4 роки тому +1

      I think it would have to be very thick before it had any effect on soundproofing. 5mm perhaps? 3mm? That’s a lot of paint. I think the Silent Coat stuff is similar to that, and it’s pretty easy to put down, and not too expensive. Maybe cut up some 2-5mm rubber mats and glue them on top of that to achieve a similar result..?!

    looks rad!! would luv (or hate!)) to do this to moggy, but im wondering, what happens now when it gets wet? Like reallt wet. left a window open accidentally overnight during a rain, etc... How will it dry out under the layers?

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  4 роки тому

      Hey Colin, frankly, the water gets under the rubber mats and stays there. We did get water in when we had removed the door seals when we painted the doors and didn't cover up the doors with a tarp from the outside. Our solution was to just use towels on the floor and under the rubber mats to dry up as much water as possible, then stick paper towels in to get the rest over a few days. If you have water on the floor of the cab regularly, I don't think covering things up is a good idea. Obviously we have the Silent Coat (Dynamat) stuff on the floor too, so water would have to get in between that and the steel to start rusting. I'm sure it will eventually, but I'm hoping I'll be enjoying the memories from an old people's home by then...

    Sorry, i have pressed the wrong Button. What I want to ask you: does the AV soundproofing mat smell like rubber? Does the smell disappear after a while? Thanks for your excellent Videos.

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  4 роки тому

      Guten Tag, Kai! It does smell a bit, but not much. It’s not made out of the same type of soft rubber you get in car mats, and door mats and such. It’s a different rubber. It definitely does not stink. We definitely do not notice anything bad about it. I don’t know if that answers your question.

      @@JockeSelin Guten Morgen Jocke. Thanks for this valuable information. Good to hear that the rubber used for this mat is not of the stinky kind...I guess I put this mat on my shopping list, now.
      By the way, we both share a passion for rivnuts. Funny to see that you also use them for nearly everything.
      Keep going and thanks again for your interesting and entertaining videos
      Kai

      Happy to help, Kai. Let me know if you need any more information. Rivnuts are very useful, if they don't spin around! 🤣 But you already know that, don't you. If it's a welding project, I tend to run the TIG welder around the outside to melt them to the metal. Works a treat. 😎👍🏻

    Hello can you tell me if it’s more easy to install it if the weather is hot ?
    I mean is it necessary to have hot weather to install it ? Because it look so hard with our low temperature . It’s 13 degrés Celsius outside at this moment , and you look so easily to put it !!!

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  3 роки тому

      Hi! I can't really say as the weather was just "regular UK weather" when we installed it. Definitely more than 13ºC, but I would think it was more between 17 and 21ºC, so not that much warmer than what you have. It was definitely hard work, the mats kind of keep slipping out of your grip, and sometimes a second person helping is very useful. You could bring one rubber mat inside the house and see if it becomes more flexible. I kind of doubt that there's much of a difference, but it could be worth a try.
      I hope you get them installed, we love them. Such a big difference. Thanks for your question! 😎👍🏻

    why didn't you soundproof the bottom of the gearbox cover?

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  4 роки тому +1

      There's an AV rubber mat section that goes over that part - not shown in the video. We might still do that bit, but as you might know, that bit doesn't tilt with the cab, so the best way to install soundproofing on it would be to tilt the cab. Sadly we don't have the time or the equipment right now to do that. Maybe one day.

    Any idea what AV claim for db reduction? Did you take any db measurements beforehand? This kit is a a lot of money but looks better quality than version 1.

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  4 роки тому

      AV doesn’t provide any number on noise reduction, and unfortunately we were not able to do any measurements. I would have loved to do it. The primary reason why we bought it was because it’s close to impossible to produce something similar on our own. It really is nice.

      @@JockeSelin I'd be interested to hear what your thoughts are once you've driven it.

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  4 роки тому +2

      The cab is very habitable now. We still don't have the centre cover on - might happen this weekend. 🤞🏻 Obviously we can't comment on a before vs. after noise as I've only driven it ~10min in total before the soundproofing was installed. We've got standard gearing, so it tops out at ~58mph on the governor and at that speed the engine is quite prominent as is the tyre noise.
      I could put the better microphone on and film it driving, but without a similar "before" shot, with the same recording settings, it would be quite difficult to judge.
      From a more human perspective, we like it, the noise in the cab is not penetrating or annoying, but to say that it's quiet is not correct either. I think long trips will be quite pleasant (considering it's a fast-ish moving tractor).
      Sorry that I'm not able to help more. I really would have loved to have done this in more scientific way.
