The first plane is Air Attack. No fire retardant tankers are allowed into a fire without an Air Attack escort. When the tankers arrive they circle in a holding pattern until Air Attack is available. The retardant is not directly applied to a fire but out in front to either redirect fires or stop the spread. NEPTUNE aviation out of Montana operates some BAE-146s.
When the tanker arrives on scene, a lead plane directs the tanker to where the ground forces need the payload with a ‘show me,’ or talking them onto the line. The lead plane then leads the tanker to the line and pops smoke at the beginning of the line and end of the line.

I’m a volunteer firefighter for my small town and we’ve had at least 6-7 wildfires this summer in our county. The biggest was 3,000 acres and the smallest was 100 acres. We had one that almost burned my house down two years ago that burned 8,000 acres. In 2011, we had one that burned 175,000 acres that caused my whole town to be evacuated. Long story short, wildfires are a regular occurrence here. The media just doesn’t care because we’re Texas not California.
Mixture of water and probably some cheap fertilizer works as fire retardant but they also add red dyes so that the application area can be seen next time plane arrives
D Mc Hello, I don’t know why? Go to my playlist and Check out Weather in Hutchinson County. They are in that playlist. It’s not as close as your video but it’s a different vantage point. Thanks and have a great day!!
Anoop it’s fire retardant I believe. It’s dropped a little ways away from the fire because once fire touches it he fire stops. So it’s dropped to stop the fire from progressing any further
OK I've seen so many videos of this kind. Now I know that A small plane always guides a big ass distinguisher carrying aircraft and they fly over some wildfire
Withered Perception You know what a huge factor with these wildfires is? We focus more on fire suppression than fire prevention. If we let some of these areas burn off like they would naturally and not immediately put it out, it wouldn’t burn as intense the next time around. Instead, once an area catches fire we immediately put it out and all the dead vegetation in that area continues to build up. So, when the area catches on fire the next time, it just takes off.

That's not true. Most captians of LATs have IA cards (initial attack) which allows them to drop w/o a lead plane. The only exception is the DC10.

The speed of the planes blade lines up with the FPS on the camera so the blades don’t look like they’re moving
