The most difficult thing and the most important thing about working out or training or whatever you're doing is just showing up. Once you're there of course you're going to train, workout or do whatever you're supposed to do.

Showing up is definitely that first step, but I’ve seen many people be there without being fully present. You’re right with showing up. I also think it’s good to challenge one another with how much effort we give into that activity while there, thus making the most of it.

Thanks for making the video. Very good advice.
Here’s my experience as a white belt and I would love to share also:
White belt is that stage where you are being conditioned to physically and mentally handle the beatings. Learn how to defend them, and be comfortable about it.
When you are good at defense, your mind will be able to process more things, and opportunities start to open up. For example, you start to feel the space your opponent is failing to close. Maybe you can feel they are gassing out, and you know when to make your move, etc, etc. And then all of a sudden, you manage to take their back, you start to pass their guard, etc, etc.
Every time you fail, you learn a little detail that makes you better. A higher belt just knows more details and they earned these with their failures. Enjoy the process.

These are great points! I like the challenge to learn being comfortable in tough spots. That’s so hard to do at first, and you’re right, learning this will help you so much in the long run. Someone who has learned to be comfortable in uncomfortable spots, AND defend becomes really good. Thanks for the encouragement, and the wisdom!

thanks for the vid. 6 months into training, it was about 4 months before I got my first sub or guard pass. now other white belts are starting to avoid me lol. stick with it and get used to getting crushed.
biggest white belt tip- just buy some tape. Right now. you will get mat burn on your soft ass feet. your fingers will get messed up. You may have to tape your ear back on? I did. Buy some tape. some good tape :)

Thanks for the encouragement, and great tip on getting some tape! Happy you are continuing your Jiu Jitsu journey, and starting to get some subs. That’s fun!

I get submissions every time I hit the mat what’s that mean

Well, in all seriousness some people progress quickly and do find success in subs faster than others. Just remember, Jiu Jitsu is the ultimate humble pie and at some point someone will come and serve it up for you 😀

@@djmyrick no definitely but it actually surprised me at the success I was getting for beginning when I was 17 but yeah definitely humble pie

It means that the other people let you submit them to get your confidence up 😂 things will get harder as the days go by. See it happen lots in my bjj academy.
