Just a quick update about 'The Dinghy Cruising Companion' by Roger Barnes. It is a great mix of the technical, well explained in his straightforward friendly manner, with diaries of individual sails (some genuinely thrilling), great photographs and lots of anecdotal memories,- written in a conversational way that echoes the videos. He is still in England but venturing to the Île de Sein and bay of Douarnenez. If you sample the book try book you will be delighted. In brief it is a must for anyone who loves this channel and boats. I did not know what to expect. The book is enchanting.

    Hi Roger,
You videos are great and nostalgic for me, especially the lug sail and the seagull outboard.
With both of these I made my first voyage, aged 12, in 1969, with my father and his cousin.

Right from the moment I clicked on this video I realised I had seen it before, You and your geordy friend, then I realised you nearly fell into the drink so I had to watch it again! Of course if you had have fallen in I would have not have watched it...Haha. Still one of my favourite channels.

My mum and dad were Gateshead, dad RIP worked for Vickers Armstrong. He told me many stories about life in the shipyard. I miss him hugely. He also ran for Gateshead Harriers, Brendon Foster was 2 years older apparently and dad remembers he was always the star runner. Great music in this episode Roger, thanks for all that you do. It is lamentable that so many of us are now excluded from living in France after so much time being able to do so. I lived and worked in Holland (including a year living in a boat) and France but feel so aggrieved that we can now only spend 90 days in every 180 and must take our leave from the EU for 90 days. Having lived in the EU also now means your UK state pension is somewhat lower as consequence

The Dinghy Cruising Companion by Roger Barnes (online bookstores, etc). I found this book through being interested in the history of the ile aux Moutons, the Bay of Douarnenez & about Ys, and all the legends. Most of you probably know about the book. It is now en route (from a very large online retailer). This is not an ad by the way, I just love boats and this channel is so good for re-setting against the worries of life.

You had quite a moment there at 31:45.
I did the same with a friend last summer, but did'nt react as quickly as you, so our boat filled with water and we were unable to get it out again as the swell were too high. So we wawed in distress to another boat, who in turn called for assistance from the nearby harbour. But it was a fun experience.
    Keep them coming!
    Love from Denmark

Everyone expected him to be in Byron Bay, not far away, but there was some to do with permits so he played at a local football field. The big bonus for us of Scots descent was that you could park in the local street and listen for free.
