As someone who's trying to create something similar here in my tiny UK backyard (climate permitting), can I just say that Bob and Toni are my kind of people?
I’ve been purchasing plants through Arid Lands for a year now and the quality of their plants are excellent. Thank you so much for sharing that your with us. It was amazing to see a small glimpse into their full collection 🤯🤯🤯
I discovered these guys 20 years ago online. I was looking for sources for my favorite genera to get them shipped to my nursery in Hawaii. Tony's name popping up in my email was regular pleasure for many years. Their plants were always beautiful and always packed really well. The propagation stock I bought from Arid Lands became a significant portion of my collection and definitely contributed to making my mortgage easy to pay. Thanks, Tony.❤ ❤❤ And hi Summer, I would love to meet you. It's amazing what's happened in the horticulture hobby world. I'm no longer the only geek speaking Latin 😂❤
This is absolutely delicious content for cactus and succulent and desert lovers. Sounds like Plants for the Southwest will be part of this video series. Super excited!
I like them very much too. And to my suprise, our haworthia regularly blooms and produces pups even in our north-facing window (our only window-direction we have)
I always enjoy the Field trips! It's an enjoyment to visit the view. Gain knowledge and experience from the hosts like Bob and Toni. Very awsome conversation today! As always Summer and Sander thanks for what you do across your media and taking me along on your journey! ❤
@@simonwillig5316i think the single mic also can be a problem too. And i noticed his mic was on the right side while most of the time she's on his left
As a South African I can say that the ‘overconsumption’ - collection of these plants by ‘collectors’ etc has created irreparable damage to our local ecosystems and as a developing country with corrupt government officials that are only driven by greed it’s honestly a losing battle. Grateful that there are real conservationists that want to ensure the survival of these fantastic plants for future generations/ecosystems.
I love it when you mention African countries especially mine, South Africa 🥰and the knowledgeable people you bring to your channel, including yourself Wow!!!!
I've appreciated arid lands greenhouse so much the past few years, I have found so many hard to find cynanchums and other plants from them for fair prices I highly recommend them
Love your channel. Especially the beautiful southwest greenhouses and nurseries you visit interviewing the owners and biologists. I learn so much from you and them. As a fond southwest desert dweller myself. Thank you.
I used to visit this greenhouse 30ish years ago when I lived there in the 90's. At that time they were known for the euphorbia and adeneums. Basically, rare succulents. Nice to see how things have changed. Dioscorea, Welwitschia, and E. decaryi are my favs.
So awesome to see this nursery. I buy from them all the time. Maybe 1/3 or more of my plants are from Arid Lands. I love their plants. They always are healthy. The prices are great. They pack super well and ship fast. Im a huge Euphorbia fan and have ordered so many different species from them. I order all kinds of rarer stranger stuff from them. It was so cool to see the seedlings and stuff they are growing that isn't for sale yet. Thanks for this video.
I have a couple of their Euphorbias. Awesome plants!!! A nice Euphorbia brevitorta I ordered and a beautiful Euphorbia persistans that I got a couple of years ago from Drummonds cactus nursery in Desoto Missouri. Had an Arid lands tag. They seem to have very healthy plants from what I got!!! Thanks for the tour!!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, have a wonderful evening!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🍀🌹🌴🌻🌳💐🌱🌾🌸🌷🪴🌿😃👍
Bad seeds was fantastic! This podcast does an important job making more people aware of the issues you discuss and I love listening while on the commute to work and have listened to each episode more than once. Hoping there's a season 2.
Great video - for me, that was a welcome trip down memory lane, as I used to have a huge personal collection years ago...and some of my specimens came from Arid Lands. I would love to work there!!!🥰
So very interesting. I love this episode and am inspired by their work at preserving. Sorry to hear about that turtle that was extinct in Mauritius. The plant changed its color for the turtle and now it's gone.
About 7 years ago I bought a Royal Poinciana tree there. I still have it. I have to shelter it in the winter but it still survives. I am in inland SoCal.
Very enjoyable episode! I loved meeting Bob and Tony! My wish list has definitely expanded. Happily, some of the items are sized and priced right for my situation. 😊
im over the moon with this episode especially those haworthias. hopefully you can visit some of the american hybridisers such as renny wong, jim smith etc. 😊
Will you doing a podcast episode on the destructive consequences worldwide to wild plant habitats caused by existing and expanding animal agricultural practices ?
thank you that was very informative as always i always liked the thought of doing my part in preserving threatened species with my hobby i wonder, perhaps you could make a video about the dangers of randomly creating hybrids vs. creating primary hybrids purposfully and with a goal in mind i might be mistaken but i assume the ones with "hybrid vigor" are ones that have been selected with care, while many more had none of the desirable traits of the parent species and maybe even do worse than them all the hybridisation by hobbiists going on has totally turned me off keeping any Anthuriums
The guy really annoyed me. Couldn't listen to him. No smiles, all logical, me-centered, interrupted Summer a few times.. I Wish I had heard more about the beautiful woman!
His response to the poaching question was god awful too... He felt targeted for whatever reason when asked and didn't acknowledge how big of a problem it actually is.
8:24 my response to that is I simply do not care I care more about a species survival than any single human or amount of them earth first, people second
I've bought plants from them many times online and I have to say, watching this guy in the interview was extremely disappointing. No one could get a word in and he was acting like such a know it all. He regularly interrupted his partner and Summer, and wouldn't allow any of her attempts to make light hearted jokes! What a bummer. Their plants are fantastic though.
Hello from germany, i am watching your videos,,,, great job thnx,,,, if you wanna cactus you must contact : Cactus quest, i mean he is from Arizona , makes also a great job with his cactus videos regards and have a good time Helmut

This place has always been a go to for me. Its amazing to see this amazing greenhouse get the recognition it deserves! A true gem
Giiiiirl...you’re everywhere.
Thanks for another succulent and euphorbia episode.
Haworthia are the single most underrated succulent. They are outrageously easy to grow and are stunning small plants. Everyone should give them a try!
Idk man Stapeliads have beautiful foliage (very different from Haworthia) and bizarre amazing flowers!! ;)

Seeing how excited Bob still gets walking around his plants is so amazing. I’ll be visiting this next summer from Kansas.
