Puffins Come Here for Mating

About 10,000 pairs of puffins nest every summer in Borgarfjörður. Hafnarhólmi is probably the easiest and safest place to watch puffins in Iceland. There are a shelter and wooden platforms where you can get close to the puffins. You can see puffins nestling here from mid-April to mid-August.

04:04 - The sign reads: Hafnarhólmi is a site of great natural beauty. Visitors are asked to show consideration to the birds which breed here. Keep disturbance to a minimum by keeping to the wooden walkways, staying quiet and avoiding sudden movements. BirdLife Iceland is the joint owner of Hafnarhólmi with the municipality of Múlaþing. BirdLife Iceland was founded in 1963 and works to protect burds and their habitats. Its activities rely heavily on volunteer work and it is largely funded through membership fees and donations.
07:45 - Puffins.
13:23 - Puffins spend winters in the open ocean. They come here in early april for the breeding season and stay until early august.

Wow! Hafnarhólmi has been very well improved and enlarged since 2009 :) more viewing points, parking lot moved to the opposite side, new building (and toilets!). Well done video about my favorite Lundinn :)
