Hey! I wanted to mention that I don't workout in my Spanx faux leather leggings! I used them in my first outfits as an example for workout leggings and didn't say specifically I don't workout in them, so I'm sorry if that was confusing. 🤦 I should have just put on my workout leggings but sometimes I get so focused on other things I can miss some practical details. Sorry about that!💖
I think the most important thing when styling leggings is to wear something that covers up your bum in the front and the back. When I'm out, I see women of all sizes wearing spandex leggings with short shirts and you can see every little curve of their anatomy. I don't care how small or fit you are, this is just not a good look. It's tacky. That said, I love leggings and love these looks you showed. Thank you!!
I was buying leggings one day and looking for a tunic and the saleswoman tried her hardest to get me to buy a short top I stead of the tunic. I was flabbergasted
I so agree with you. I often see women of every body configuration wearing leggings with tops that barely cover their hip bones, and I've wondered if they actually look in the mirror. I'm no fashionista, but it just seems like a fundamental rule of good taste to me, not to put your most intimate areas on full display. Different rules apply for workout wear, of course.
I don’t wear leggings out of the house. With shorter tops it looks like you forgot your pants. 😂 Longer tops are definitely better. Thanks for this video.
Omgosh 😂 One of my favorite hacks for dressing warm is to wear flesh-colored leggings under my hosiery. One day I got out of the hosiery and dress and threw on a Tshirt. Totally forgot my leggings were "nude" and walked to the corner store 😳😳😳 Never, ever again 😂
What a great video! I live in Florida & LOVE fall/winter fashion (fashion in general) so your term "UNBALANCED" hit the nail on the head with what I am often challenged with. This was a perfect "shop your closet" which is overflowing so I REALLY appreciate ways to work there first. but you had 2 pieces I fell in love with...your favorite cowl neck sweatshirt & the Target split front leggings. They are a MUST HAVE! Thank you for a perfect blend of sensible and on trend. Glad I found your channel!
I am 70 and live in WA state. I live in leggings. I wear them with v-neck t-shirts that cover my butt and have sweaters and flannel shirts I wear with the leggings and t-shirts. We both liked te same two pieces. I am not a fan of shiny material for leggings so the faux leather leggins I did not really like for myself. I also like my leggings a little loose because I have a bad knee and upper leg and anything too tight bugs me.
@@bluewaters3100 I am 50s but hear I look 40s ...dress FUN and don't really care but classy not trashy. I love to play with fashion and have fallen in love with the faux leather leggings to elevate an outfit. The more I layer the less I feel that they "SCREAM" but rather accent. There is a pair I found that are almost rubber and I was unsure of them but they turned out to be the ones I reach for most when weather allows....with a sweatshirt, over jacket /puffer/ knee length coat/ vest & cross body bag. Add baseball cap or winter hat if you like. Perfection! Don't under estimate the statement pieces.
Great video! I love all the "do" outfits and you looked great in all, even the "don'ts"! So true that you have to play with proportions to get things just right. Thanks for a great video!
I ordered various colors and patterns of leggings on Amazon, and they are so comfortable and warm. For the winter, I ordered 4 with microfiber warmth inside them. They are so warm in cold weather, and I love them.
Thank you so much I totally would I like the oversized blazer it looks so cute it just makes everything come together I haven't worn one in a long time I was from the eighties where I enjoyed them
Great video lots of great ideas. I did like the font version of the knit blazer. I wear joggers more often than leggings especially with a shorter sweater/sweatshirt.
Hi Jamie. I hope this finds you well. Thanks again. I just love your videos. I always learn so much. I especially love learning that there are some things I like to wear wether even if they are a "don't" lol!! Have a great week! Your friend Kristine
I just got the Target slit leggings but I haven’t worn them yet. After watching this, I now have some ideas. I am sure I will mostly wear them with the big sweatshirt and boots or trendy sneakers. Glad I found this video.
I only wear leggings for workouts, but I do have to go multiple places before & after gym. And I don’t like the “exposed” look. So I appreciated this video! I tend to use long cardigans & utility-style jackets as my “cover” layer, with a crossbody bag, partly because I am only 5’2.5” and I have been trying to get away from the long tops/sweaters (esp since I packed up my skinny jeans!) and haven’t yet bought any oversized blazers. But I liked alot of your ideas! They will probably help me make a few strategic purchases! I do wear black faux leather “bottoms” as part of a regular or holiday outfit, but only if they’re loose enough on me to fit like straight or slim straight trousers.
Follow-Up: I purchased the taupe option of these new leggings, thanks! I also ordered a pair of cream ponte-type leggings/stretchy trousers at the same time, I’ve been looking for this color for ages. I have had good experiences with the fit of Target’s leggings and stretchy trousers and was excited to find these lighter colors that I love to wear. Both of these will be great additions to my wardrobe, and the price for both was under $60, with free shipping. Thanks for spotting these, Jamie!
These wear this not that type of videos are always fascinating because it shows how important proportions, balance, and subtle changes can make a big difference. I am definitely team leggings, however I wear them more like tights in solid colors usually under dresses, tunic length shirts and long cable knit sweaters. For those who can't afford the Spanx leggings, the Walmart brand time and tru makes an excellent dupe for under $20. They hold up well in the wash as long as you don't put them in the dryer. Time and tru also makes a fantastic faux suede pair and a stretch velour pair as well that I highly recommend because pet hair doesn't cling to them, and they are all warm but breathable and extremely comfortable. You can get 3 pairs for under $50, and they will last more than one season.
I still have some oversized boxy blazers (Ellen Tracy and Anne klein) from the eighties. Do you think I could wear them now. The shoulder pads are kinda big.
I have some faux leather leggings coming in the post and have no idea how to style them! Thanks so much for some great do-and-don't tips and style ideas. I may have to get a fresh blazer since I haven't worn one in years (cardigan addict).

Jamie....this was great. I've done several videos for mature women wearing and styling the faux leather leggings including cropped slit ones. I don't wear the faux leather for actual athletic to work out in.
Hi Jamie! Fairly new to your channel and I do like how you style pieces! I have a hard time with leggings outside of the gym. Like some others have said, my long, slender legs seem to make me look like I'm wearing a micro-mini, but I really like the looks you have styled and don't think they look like shorty-short dresses on you! I did check out the split front ones from Target, feeling like the flared hems would look more like pants on me, but they look like the split in in the side hem, not the front. I will need to swing by my own Target and check them out in person. My favorite casual look is the one with the H&M vest and my elevated look favorite is the one with the camel coat from Everlane!! Thanks for some great content!
I m short and a young 72. I love my leggings and appreciate all the insight you gave. If you have any dos and don't for my age and size please include them what was the Target leggings? Were they the split leggings?
Great video and suggestions. I would like to see more styles that are offered in regular and petite sizing. I am 5'2" with a 27-28" inseam and most of what I see here is not offered in petite sizing. That's not a criticism at all as I can still try to mimic the outfits by searching for products that are similar to those presented. I'll keep watching because I still learn a lot.
💟Hi Jamie, leggings are such a real practical & warm item for me in the colder months. My only complaint with leggings is when I see women wearing them with shorter tops (with bum & crotch area exposed), I find that distasteful. You showed us tasteful comparisons with longer length tops which look polished & more sophisticated! Thanks for sharing your perspective on leggings! 💟💜💟
Sitting at the park one day with women of all ages slowly walking, power walking or jogging by I noticed every one of them back on looked like a couple of bob-cats in a sack even the younger ones with firm looking butt cheeks. I'm older, love leggings and wouldn't wear them out of the house but long tops essential and even no butt can look wobbly while on the move. Bet none of them realized.
In the 80s we wore bands to hold up the sleeves. They were goldtone and stretched. You could put some type of band inside the cuff to hide it as well. Without them we adjusted the sleeves a lot too. Another accessory that came back is the braided leather belt that would look good with a jacket and leggings. I wear them often and with a shirt longer than a jacket sometimes for a layered look. The shiny fabric is harder for me at 63. I wear the cotton leggings and the matte finish is more forgiving. For me at 5'3" the difference between a tunic and a mini dress length is about 4 inches. The tunic length is better.
I am old enough to have lived through many pants trends, from 70s super wide bells to muffin top baring low rise jeans to skinny jeans and leggings back to flares. I struggle between the "wear what you love and own it" camp and the " wear what is age and size appropriate (however you define it) and not tacky" camp and usually come down on compromise. Just my opinion, but I do think leggings can look like one forgot to put on pants and therefore tacky. I am 5"9' and very slim, with proportionally long legs, and my go to look is slim pants ( think slightly looser leggings or skinny but not skin tight jeans, sometimes with a boot cut or small flare), never faux leather, and a top long enough to cover my bum without being baggy (think tunic or long button down shirt or long sweater, all a bit nipped in at the waist). Dressed this way I feel stylish and comfortable.
I totally agree! If the top doesn’t cover your butt and crotch it does look like you forgot your pants and looks awful. Even on skinny and petite women!
I agree, I am 5ft 10 with long slim legs but look freaky in leggings if my top is not long enough and I also need knee high boots to even up my proportions (born in1951 & seen all the trouser styles 😂) x Sue UK
I love my leggings, especially my warm winter ones! I put some nice sweaters on, long enough to cover my behind and a part of my long legs I am 67 and live in them! not the shiny fake leather, that is too young for me. I have 4 long (midi) coats/cardigans (whatever it is called) and wear it going out and love booties in several colors with the outfit. BOTH blazers you can wear!!! Don't miss out on he first one!! Your leggings look the best with a higher heel!!! Thank you for showing us!
Is leggings within long tunic sweater ok? it is almost a dress (and more form fitting) but a little too short? do tunic sweaters have to be loose for it to look right?
hello, could you share the link for the for the Zella jacket, I am looking for jackets that are longer and can be worn over leggings (for biking, walking, or just going on an errand. Do you know of any , I want to dress sharp like you have shared. thanks
I think the outfits are great! I am not supposed to wear black, due to my T3 energy type, but I appreciate how I can wear a different color. Being 69, I have no one to ask about trendy fashions. Bless you!!
I love leggings! I love the outfits you put together. I am 68 years old and started wearing them in my late 50s. They are my go to item every fall, winter and spring. But I always wear a long top, jacket or coat on top. I wear either ballet flats, sneakers, knee high boots or chelsea boots with them. I love knee high boots so much that at the first hint of fall in the air I start wearing them.😁 The leggings with the slit I am undecided about. I have a feeling they will look dated after a season or two. If they are still around after that, I may rethink buying a pair.😉
I practically live in leggings and I ignore negative comments. They are so comfortable compared to any pants in my wardrobe. Didn’t like the split ankle leggings, but that’s just my opinion. I do think covering the mid section looks best for going out, short tops look good for the gym!
Hi Jamie...Love your channel. like Audrey Coyne you have a very pleasing way of speaking and relating. As to leggings...I love them with long tops, however I am 5 ft.11 inches tall with just super skinny and shapeless legs...I call them stork legs that just look bad in tight pants or leggings. The only way I can wear them is with a knee or just above the knee length dress. I do have a pair of thicker ones with the seam down the middle that aren't too bad. I was wondering if pairing the leggings with a short dress is anywhere appropriate as I don't see that combo much. Thank you and keep the videos coming..😊
I've been self conscious about leggings but I just got some faux leather ones. I'm biting the bullet and wearing them. This video couldn't have come at a better time
Question: What footwear would you recommend with faux leather joggers (in a cold climate)? This was a very good video. Love those slit leggings from Target.
Thank you for the video. Had some great ideas. However, what is with the white runners?!? Nothing kills a look than a big white blob at the end of your legs. I enjoy wearing leggings but depending on the type (tight all the way down or a flare/interesting hem at the bottom) will change how I style them. With a tight legging I tend to use boots that go over top of them - knee length, over the knee length or slouchy. With a a wider bottom I wear them with sock booties, black shoes, black runners, etc. Using a more substantial boot over the tight legging helps to balance out whatever type of top (sweat shirt, sweater, blazer, jacket, etc.) you're wearing - IMHO. I also like the monochromatic look from top to bottom with perhaps a contrasting colour in the outer layer. Looking forward to the next video.
I ordered for pick up the slit leg leggings from Target!! One left in medium at a Target further from my home. I could have them delivered, but I want them now. Will pick up tomorrow. Can't wait. I am traveling soon, so I will wear them on my plane ride. Back to video.
It’s refreshing to see videos that deal with styling leggings instead of those telling us we shouldn’t wear them when they’re the most comfortable and practical items for our lifestyles. I live in leggings paired with belt bags most of the year. My fleece ones work for three seasons, even through frosty winters, taking me from home to the gym, then brunch, shopping and home again where they’re equally suitable for working, doing housework or just lounging. They’re easy to style although it takes a bit more work to not look like a copy of everyone else because that’s what everybody is wearing. I’m not sure how the front slit ones would work for those who need to get everything shortened. I like all of your improved looks except the one with the blazers. Both look fine but I like the double breasted blazer better - have never like 80s fashion and think the oversized blazer has had its day.
@@glendajmccombe9881 I’m not sure what you mean by hiding “all that”. I think leggings can look put together with a blazer, coat, jacket, sweater, etc. depending on the occasion and how you accessorise. It’s all about balance. The whole notion of being “put together” is about using colour and texture well. It’s looking in the mirror before you leave to check that everything is in balance. It’s deliberate without looking like you’re trying too hard to be trendy or attract attention to your body. It’s effortless and not sloppy. You can even look put together going for a run or to the gym if you put some thought into it. I’m short so I stick to all black leggings most of the time with a black turtleneck and black shoes or boots to look taller and use colour for the top layer or accessories like scarves or bags. The leggings are on the thicker side, fleece-lined or leather over another pair as an inner layer, so it’s all a smooth line. Or I’ll wear them with a slightly oversized sweater so there’s a bit more volume on top which is where I’ll balance (not hide) my “all that” (shoulders on the skinny side, long arms, small bust) with my lower body. They don’t look much different than my slim jeans.
Wearing leggings are a comfortable throw on. I always have a longer top to cover my butt and stomach…as I age, I now have a belly (hate it). In the spring/summer, I prefer a longer tee that I sometimes twist a knot to change it up. Cooler weather is my favorite for leggings with tunic sweatshirt or shirt. I personally don’t care to see someone bearing it all with every nook and cranny to display no matter how tight a body you have. I prefer a polished look rather than I just rolled out of bed attire. Love the flair leggings! Thank you for advice on this topic.
Lynette I agree 100%! Don’t show that stuff, tacky. I am tall and thin but still never wear leggings that don’t cover front and back. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁
I love my leggings. I wear oversized tees in the summer with them, and oversized sweaters and flannels in the winter. It’s all about comfort. Haha! I’m a mess. I do get compliments though, so it could be worse.
I’m not sure about the Spanx but I have an old thrifted pair that doesn’t show either dog or cat hair. Some of the regular ones from brands like Lululemon and Athleta are also not hair magnets. This depends on the fabric and the weave. Pet hair also looks less obvious on dark marled greys.
Just today received the target leggings… thank you for showing different ways to style them.. love them as well..wearing them to our daughters after wedding brunch!
Leggings are the only fashion most women here in America wears. I think it should only be worn when doing workout in the gym! Or it should be worn under dress or long shirt or tunic. I see most women, wear the tightest and see through leggins or yoga pants!😬 just dont know why most people that wears them are those that you know, have never been in the gym or have never worked out in their life..😅
I do the Korean way with leggings paired with oversized sweaters. Everything looked good except for the checked blazer and purple bag...the blazer was too boxy and more formal but yeah you're a excellent dresser. Btw what brand was the slit leggings? Thanks for this i just happened on this video..👏👏👏
I love the Spanx faux leather leggings. I dress them down with bulky sweaters and Chelsea boots and u with silk longer tops and high heel booties. Love love. Wearing the leggings with cropped tops is a no for me, especially since I’m curvy.
I've got to say - absolute agreement on fully exposing leggings - yuk- but, Jamie, what a neat little figure you've got! I think maybe people get carried away thinking they have lost weight, looking fine, whatever BUT need to think, just because you have it, no need to show everyone......and often not quite as "good" as we are thinking ..
In the dress up portion of your video with the print blouse and the leggings, in my opinion, the blouse is not long enough. If it was longer, as long as the Blazer , it would look better. Just a thought. Thank you for your videos!
Wow! You look good in all of these outfits with the leggings. I'm wearing leggings for convenience and wearing them over my dress. So in case of wind or getting into my vehicle my legs are not exposed.
Hmmm… i am definitely “team leggings”! But I guess I’m just missing something, because I truly thought the double breasted blazer over the black leggings and top, plus the black Chelsea boots was darling! -Also, I have VERY narrow shoulders, and all but no chest, so oversize blazers are awful on me! That said, how would you BEST style this knitted double breasted blazer?
At 68 yrs old, I love wearing leggings (especially in the last 8-10 years). I'm small frame (120 lbs) with most weight in thighs, so I always wear a longer top. I'm very self conscious about my flaw, so I disguise it. I have a few printed (suttle) leggings too, which I I enjoy wearing..
I’m not really a legging person if I did wear them it would probably with a short skirt as they a more thicker than tights. What I will say is definitely the lady bits needs to be covered up with a top or something like that, it’s just not nice showing off all the shapes and it looks like wearing thick tights, I have seen ladies wearing beige leggings they end up looking nude really not a good look.

@@debbiemohekey1509 😂 bob-cats in a sack. I see way over weight women in leggings and a cropped top. I guess they’re proud of that bootie!

You can also side tie or front tie an oversized shirt to get the 1/3rd top proportion. Looks more put together as well !
I agree and thanks so much for sharing!
I loved all you do's outfits. So attractive. New subscriber ❤️
Thank you!
Love the ones with the slit, but at 76 I couldn’t wear them. I don’t shop at Target either.
Loved this video ❤ my stylist always says no to leggings yet I can’t toss them! I agree with all your suggestions. Just makes sense! Thank you 🎉
You are so welcome!
Great information! Thanks!!
Hello it was very helpful. As I am also fond of wearing blazers on our Pakistani Shalwar Qameez.
….I have even worn a short dress over leggings , which covers the buns well .
Love the new boot-cut leggings, so flattering and more day-wear than gym-wear looking. I hope they have other colors, I don’t wear a lot of black.🙂
You could make a tunic sweater and leggings look really current by adding a knee-high boot to it!
@@YourGuideToStyle I didn’t think knee high boots were still on trend. good to know!
Love this ! Where is the cow neck sweatshirt w side zippers from please? New sub!
hello, could you share the link for the for the Zella jacket, I am looking for jackets that are longer and can be worn over leggings (for biking, walking, or just going on an errand. Do you know of any , I want to dress sharp like you have shared. thanks
The Zella blazer is not available anymore but I like this one a lot and it would work with leggings really well. rstyle.me/+VVRseSzcj6l_Wzv4PD_Bug
Great suggestions thanks
Please do a video on how you style your hair :)
I think the outfits are great! I am not supposed to wear black, due to my T3 energy type, but I appreciate how I can wear a different color. Being 69, I have no one to ask about trendy fashions. Bless you!!
Energy type???? Is that New Age? @jorose6184
I just don’t like a blazer with leggings. A more casual tunic and jacket makes sense to
me.
I practically live in leggings and I ignore negative comments. They are so comfortable compared to any pants in my wardrobe. Didn’t like the split ankle leggings, but that’s just my opinion. I do think covering the mid section looks best for going out, short tops look good for the gym!
I'm not crazy about the split ankle leggings either
Thanks for this video..lots of great ideas..
Thank you!
Loved the video.
I've been self conscious about leggings but I just got some faux leather ones. I'm biting the bullet and wearing them. This video couldn't have come at a better time
Question: What footwear would you recommend with faux leather joggers (in a cold climate)? This was a very good video. Love those slit leggings from Target.
Knee-high black leather riding boots.
Love my everlane blazer (blue Corduroy 80’s)
Nice!
My fleece ones work for three seasons, even through frosty winters, taking me from home to the gym,
then brunch, shopping and home again where they’re equally suitable for working, doing housework or just lounging.
Just hate to see all that belly and fat butt hangi,g out and over the top muffin flab
It looks better to just hide all that with something more flattering and but together
Your videos are awesome 👌
Thank you!
I would love to wear leggings but the lower part of my foot, from the knee down is very small so I kinda shape funny .
What can I do
Try the slit leggings or flared leggings! They would probably look really good on you!
@@YourGuideToStyle thanks very much I will try those
Lynette I agree 100%!
Don’t show that stuff, tacky. I am tall and thin but still never wear leggings that don’t cover front and back. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁
Thanks for the tips! I love wearing chunky boots with leggings! 💙😎
Where did you get the black leather top?
I got it from Nordstrom. It was the brand Zella.
I agree on the new legging style. Love them !
Hi did you say : Della s Active Wear or Dallas? I’m looking for that boxer. Thank you 🙏🏽
Note: the outfits you created are amazing!!
Thanks you! Sorry I was not more clear. It's Zella, a brand from Nordstrom.
I love my leggings. I wear oversized tees in the summer with them, and oversized sweaters and flannels in the winter. It’s all about comfort. Haha! I’m a mess. I do get compliments though, so it could be worse.
Side pockets awesome and only like those
Do the Spanx Faux Leather Leggings show dog hair?
I’m not sure about the Spanx but I have an old thrifted pair that doesn’t show either dog or cat hair. Some of the regular ones from brands like Lululemon and Athleta are also not hair magnets. This depends on the fabric and the weave. Pet hair also looks less obvious on dark marled greys.
Great ideas, but would wear the belt bag over one shoulder crossing the front, making an X.
The split hem leggings outfits are better than the leather look ones 🥰
I wear black jeggings or Ponte knit pants instead of leggings. They offer more coverage and look dressier than leggings, which tend to be see thru
the right leggings are not see-through.
Not all leggings are see through
100 percent agree Lynette spot on
I liked all of these looks - even the don’ts but not a fan of those TARGET leggings at the end. Very cute and fun fashion video.
Just today received the target leggings… thank you for showing different ways to style them.. love them as well..wearing them to our daughters after wedding brunch!
I like the outfit with the loft blazer.🎃
Great options for leggings! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Target leggings!😃
They are great!
I cannot find the target leggings with slit at bottom,
Here they are! rstyle.me/+0Mqx-kRTF_IoFLZqzr54AQ
Great gams by the way, Jamie! :)
Leggings are the only fashion most women here in America wears. I think it should only be worn when doing workout in the gym! Or it should be worn under dress or long shirt or tunic. I see most women, wear the tightest and see through leggins or yoga pants!😬 just dont know why most people that wears them are those that you know, have never been in the gym or have never worked out in their life..😅
Llbean has tunic length fleece vest and tops that could do the job.
I love leggings and have different weights so I can wear them year round❤
Love the Target leggings! ❤
You can get more functional belt bags on Amazon. They are made of nylon, so they aren't as cute, but they have multiple pockets.
Thanks! They are from Target! Linked in the description.
I love the Spanx faux leather leggings. I dress them down with bulky sweaters and Chelsea boots and u with silk longer tops and high heel booties. Love love. Wearing the leggings with cropped tops is a no for me, especially since I’m curvy.
Where did you purchase your belt bag?
Love this video. Ordered a few things. Casual is always so hard to look good. You are a great inspiration.
You look great even in the "no" options. :)
…I would definitely wear the blazer ..my leggings and tops are oversized , I use a belly bag for convenience …and surprise , I’m eighty, going on 25
I’ve noticed with leggings that a little modesty adds to the style factor too. ⬆️
Yes it certainly does.
Thanks!
Hmmm… i am definitely “team leggings”! But I guess I’m just
missing something, because I truly thought the double breasted blazer over the black leggings and top, plus the black Chelsea boots was darling!
