In The Netherlands' football federation we have the same problem with favoritism or nepotism among Ajax-related coaches who always prioritize Ajax players above PSV and especially Feyenoord players. Frank de Boer and Louis van Gaal have been the most recent examples with some very weird decisions in favor of Ajax players that nobody understood. Also, Ajax talents get to be selected for the national team after 3 good games for their club, while for PSV or Feyenoord players it can take years before they get selected. Most notable example today is Lutsharel Geertruida, who has been fantastic for Feyenoord for years now but still hasn't made his national team debut. Meanwhile Malacia got totally neglected as well in favor of a clearly aged Daley Blind, but his father Danny Blind was assistent coach, so...
And there are many other examples. A selection: Frank de Boer's predilecition for Promes and Babel. Frank de Boer is such a weirdo as a coach... crazy! Van Gaal selecting Kenneth Taylor in de WC squad after he played a few mediocre games for Ajax, while neglecting Joey Veerman who is an experienced young midfielder at PSV.
With Ronald Koeman as our coach now things are going to change for the better because he is not a home grown Ajax player but originates from Groningen and is affiliated with all three big clubs. He played for all three of them and coached all of them as well, which is crazy as well when you think of it. Ronald Koeman is class.

    • @darthwiizius
      @darthwiizius Рік тому

Koeman's mistake was trying to manage Southampton after their [almost low key Ajax like] conveyor belt of young locally developed talent ran out then thinking he could help the cursed ship that is Everton. 100% this. It's funny how everywhere federations get in the way of national teams reaching their full potential.
In 2006 Messi was kept on the bench because most of the group didn't know him.
In 2010 we put fucking Maradona in charge and left Zanetti and Cambiasso and brought some horrible players, also Tevez had to play because of pressure completely unbalancing the team.
2014 was one of the sane coaches, but Messi had one his few bad seasons and a lot of injuries, Aguero and most notably Di Maria, we still reached the final.
2018 was an utter mess that makes what happened in this video nothing by comparison.
2022 was the first time in Messi's entire career that he had the same coach throughout the entire 4 years process and wouldn't you know, we actually won the world cup, how shocking! :)

You hit the entitlement thing on point. One of the major things that I have noticed is that the pay to win US academies are insane. Everywhere in Europe the academies are free and they pay the kids to train and participate until they are selected as a member of their respective clubs first team. If I remember correctly Sir Alex Ferguson basically said his success was basically to finding talented working class kids who really had no future, showing them football through his academy, and if they were talented have them play. That is pretty much where Rooney, Beckham and various other stars came from. That is why the USA has one of the best national Basketball and Baseball international teams (when the stars feel like playing). Really insane to be honest.
Oh I almost forgot that Berhalter is also an idiot and loves to play people coming from the MLS............... Let that sink in. We have so many taleneted players playing over in Europe having a hell of a time but we choose to field mostly MLS players because USF thinks they are capable of beating England. THE ENGLAND GAME ALL WE DID WAS DEFEND. NOTHING ELSE JUST DEFENSE AND 0 IDEAS FOR ATTACKING.

    • @pjkerrigan20

NBA and NFL players would never be able to play for 90 minutes as their body types are literally just inefficient for the amount of running expected of them. Football was supposed to be even bigger and better in Brazil if it wasn't for CBF and their insane incompetence. If you look at the best teams in our country rn (Palmeiras and Flamengo) - both are trained by portuguese coaches, who can easily jump over the pond and dominate here, because the bar for coaches in Brazil is relatively low. I know a lot of people were saying his dad was complaining about Christian's playing time at Chelsea, but I feel like it's not necessarily comparable because the Pulisic's never used influence and power like that to get Christian more playing time.
I just feel bad for Gio and the team because it'll definitely strain their relationship for sure. I would imagine they all just want the situation to be over with and just focus on the game instead of this bullshit.

You can always tell by who, and what a person of substance based on how they play and how they structure their team. This is endemic to the whole system in general in terms of status, privilege, and entitlement. There is a saying in Arabic that translates to "A fart on the floor." Meaning the drama is taken much more seriously than the actual impact an action already had. I think I got that wrong. But it leads me to this conclusion: Americans already had low expectations for the USMNT and we are still let down. Parents in the United States treat team sports, choirs, and other group activities like it's Walmart. Parents get greedy and think they're not getting their money's worth. Then the they melt down over social media just to dissuade their friends group to not support a thing. It's a fact of life. Soccer/futbol is pay to play like other peewee and pop warner leagues and sometimes parents would have to pay more than a month's salary to let their children play for a few games. The free leagues are rare and there are little to no ameteur adults league to train late bloomers. Only college sports do that and they are cutthroat. I'm no saint in this regard, my mom had to bail me out on occassion. It is what it is. That generation of parents get extra defensive with their own sons while simultaneously complaining about why the new generations are weak and participants in cancel culture. It is a miracle we make it to championships at this rate treating sports like it's a brand deal when more passionate teams who take sports more seriously had a better chance.

Edit : bc I saw the end of the video later lol
Yeah french fédération président used to be Noël Le graet (not le Great at all). An 80 yo dude called out for sexual harrasment and alcohol addiction for YEARS. Also his management looked like what you can see in a Scorsese movie kind of management.
But what actually got him out of the place? He just said something bad about Zidane (hero of the nation and also god) during a radio talk show. Zidane wanted to be the new French NT head coach and he just said stuff like I don't fcking care about him.
Then Mbappe made a tweet about it and it blowed up.
In France you can harass everyone and get away with it but don't you DARE say a bad thing on Zidane bc this would be the end of you.
Zidane didn't even react to this bc he doesn't even have too. He's way too big here.
Then Benzema retired from the team because he was waiting for Deschamps to be replaced before taking a decision.
Now Deschamps is still here but he was very close to the former president and I think it's kind of embarrassing for him. He also lied in front of everyone about the Benzema situation at the world cup (my guy could have played during the quarter finals)

Gio Reyna just isn't all that. He's been great for a 17-year-old but he has not progressed since. Fact is, he is 20 now and still - at best - at the same stage he was three years ago. He's still not a starter for BvB. When he does come on he rarely makes an impact anymore. Now surely the many injuries he's had haven't helped. Which is why, if you want his breakthrough to arrive yet, you really have to be super-careful about how you build him up from here on.
I have a soft spot for Berhalter because for a few seasons he was a great defender for the club i support, 1860 Munich. Getting on with stuff, just super reliable. He knew what he was doing and was not being loud about it.
It seems a reasonable, sensible and in-character choice for Berhalter to not overburden Reyna at the World Cup at this stage of his career. Reyna was clearly not at his best, while expectations were unrealistic and overwhelming. US fans (and Reyna himself probably) had this idea that he would be a world beater at 20 but the fact is that this hasn't happened. I find that there's a lack of respect towards the other US players. They can't be total losers to have gotten to where they are. To assume that a not-at-100%-Reyna would easily be better than them is pretty demeaning. And just because Reyna says he feels he's at 100% does not mean that he is not overestimating where he actually is. Was Berhalter right to tell him he'd be getting limited time beforehand? I guess that he was expecting trouble from Reyna when the disappointment was setting in during the tournament and tried to make his point ahead of time to avoid that. Turns out Reyna did not take his point so it didn't work.
Now Berhalter was really very, very stupid though to tell that inside story afterwards and to actually believe it would not leave that room. That one's definitely on him.
