He's not wrong. The powercreep in hearthstone is making it more and more unfun. Originally, hearthstone struck a nice balance between wacky RNG and skill. Now, the powercreep is such that there's horrid RNG in every game from cards like Rune of the archmage and jackpot. And the decks that don't have horrid RNG have so much mana cheat and/or card generation It's just night and day compared to older hearthstone formats. That's why whenever you talk to someone that's played hearthstone for a long time about powercreep they'll rant about it. Setting aside all the people coping, of course.
@@nickp8041 I've been watching a YuGiOh series from a channel called Cimo called The History of YuGiOh where he does a duel in every single format progressing in time, and it's shocking to me how fast that game went from ultra-slow control to "play 10,000 cards in a turn and win on turn 2". Like, it's crazy how hard Synchro summoning broke that game irreparably. They just wanted a fixed version of Fusion summoning, and they opened the floodgates to basically giving every player 15 extremely powerful cards that always start in their hand. But, RNG is not the problem in Hearthstone. RNG has always been there, and I would argue it was far, FAR worse in GvG era where your Dr. Boom bombs or your Shredder roll could legitimately win or lose you the game. No, the problem is our Synchro summon -- Rush. That keyword singlehandedly sped the game up, and turned our plodding minions into threats that are also removal spells. Why run Flamestrike when you can just Rush the board down at half the price and get a minion on board too? Now, everything has to compete with Rush being so core to the game, which pushes the power level upwards. Powercreep is inevitable, as long as new mechanics continue to be added. Whether it's adding broader mechanics that allow more functionality for cards, trying failed archetypes again with a stronger push, giving newer archetypes a power boost so they'll be competitive, or even just trying to push a product, it's practically impossible to maintain a stable power level in an evolving game. The other option is The Grand Tournament or Rastakhan's Rumble (or Mercadian Masques for an MTG example), where trying to pull back on powercreep just results in an undesirable release.
@@nickp8041 I think you're underestimating a bit the number of games that were decided by playing Sylvanas into Ragnaros on an empty board, or playing Arcane Missiles or Mad Bomber into a 3/2. Modern Hearthstone has a lot more RNG in stuff like card generation, but it also has a lot less "If I make this play I have a 35% chance to win."
@@driftwisp2797 Not really. Winning games off rag happened but it was never guaranteed. You know what is guaranteed though? Playing rune of the archmage 4 times and winning off random bullshit after you mana cheat it out for 4 mana.
The year is 2089, Hearthstone's latest expansion "Return to the origin of the begining of the dawn of Naxxramas 9, vengance of Kel' Thuzad" has released. Rarran has discovered a chemical compound that prolongs human lives for thousands of years while preserving a youthful look. Billions praise this man's acomplishment that will surely benefit society greatly. Reynad however, trembles in fear as he prepared to be farmed for content for 10000 years.

I do love the contrast between the Rarran and Reynad's very dichotomous personality and tone, it's pretty funny. Rarran's "excitable puppy just craving affection" style and Reynad's "world-weary hippie hermit" style play off each other quite nicely, and I think the chemistry works because of that.
Thanks for the longer video, really appreciate it! I really feel like this video showcased why Reynad was a top (is?) player. @@GodOfWar05100 Classic on ladder isn't fun at all, but classic competitively is pretty fun.
