Just a couple of moments ago I was all shaken up from something, reading The Bible made me feel so much better I can’t even describe it, THANKS BE TO GOD! Then praying too of course. The name of Jesus is so Powerful!🙌
Very important point on this topic from St. Alphonsus de Liguori. When the temptation or intrusive thought is against purity or chastity you NEVER oppose it directly, it will only make things worse. Instead you turn to ejaculatory/aspiration prayer (the short, repeated many times prayers) of love for God, firm intent to serve God, firm resolution not to offend God, etc. The names of Jesus and Mary (and I would add St. Joseph) are especially powerful.
My personal favorites: Jesus, Mary and St. Joseph, I love you; save souls.
And: Lord Jesus, grant me to die rather than offend You.
St. John Cassian teaches the use of: 'O God come to my assistance, O Lord make haste to help me.
The Jesus prayer is a form of this kind of prayer.
The most important thing to remember is to give positive resistance at the moment you perceive the thought/temptation and if the thought or temptation is against purity and chastity NEVER combat it directly, instead have recourse to God making acts of Love and fidelity, especially calling on the names of Jesus, Mary and St. Joseph.
