  • Trevor and I grommet the fabric for the cots and lace them onto the tinktube frames with paracord. I teach Trevor how to put together a grommet and a few knots I learned in Boy Scouts.

What I enjoy most about these videos is the honesty. I watch some videos.. decide to start a project .. and immediately the holes don't cut nice.. the grommets don't go in nice... the gas tank runs out on me.. and I think "I'm clearly not cut out for this" because in most videos people clean out the stuff that didn't work out.. but you keep it REAL.

Thanks for the feedback, Hugh. I’m glad to know you appreciate this part of my approach. The television DIY shows present an unrealistic, sanitized, perfect approach to projects. I can’t watch anymore. My intent, in showing the missteps, the un-dos, and the “bad grommets” is to present a true DIY project. I appreciate your recognition of this. I hope it encourages you to get after your own DIY projects. We are all cut-out for it, utilizing the skills we have and learning new ones along the way. The process, with successes and “failures” alike, is an important part of learning. Failures is in quotes, because we often mislabel an “iteration” as a “failure.” (An Adam Savage tenet). It’s only a failure if we stop trying. Thank you for watching.

Trevor can stop eating his veggies until the camper is complete. Nice update and improvisations. Keep on going.

Well done! The cots are super light and with a camp mat will be comfortable. Keep up the good work!

Glad to see Trevor still fits!!! You'll need to add on a foot extension dinglehopper if he grows any more.

The dinglehopper design will require another Skyscraper Guitars jameo. Thank you for watching, Greg!

Sure is nice having a minion to help with the project. Using heat probably sealed the fabric edges preventing fraying and tearing. Did you have a soldering iron for making holes. Alternatively, your Rocket King stove could have kept the probe glowing. Nice webwork guys. Eyes, ears and covered toes too. Great project.
Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace brother

Hi JW. I have a soldiering iron somewhere. :-) I didn’t consider the Rocket King. There was one practically at my feet. Eyes, ears and toes, indeed. Thank you for watching. Peace, brother.

Resisting the urge to say 'told you so' but you may want to build faster before Trevor outgrows the camper altogether!
    :D
Okay, serious point - the pipe extensions won't be removable from the cots. What about pushing them in instead ? Can the canvas collapse enough to stay attached with the extensions pushed in?

Ha! I remember your exhortation. I’ll think about some alternative options for the leg extensions. You’ve got me thinking. Thank you for your continued support. Thank you for watching.
