  • This episode we take our van as south as you can take a caravan in stunning Tasmania (and Australia), as the Tasmanian leg of our lap of Australia continues. ‪@nextleveloz‬
This week we go from Derwent Bridge to Mt Field National Park, the Huon Valley and then Cockle Creek - taking our caravan down the most southern public road access in Australia. David does the 17 km walk to see South East Cape, Australia’s southern most point to tick off the first of our cardinal points for the Lap.
Welcome to our Big Lap Gap Year. We're David and Paula @NextLevelOZ. Like many of you, we've worked hard for 40 years, but we are too young to retire. So we're taking a gap year from work, we've bought our first ever caravan and are doing a Big Lap around Australia taking in the iconic destinations of our fabulous country.

Epic walk, well done. I was just researching this last night so the timing couldn’t have been better! Cheers

Took me 5 hours in the end. About 1.40 out and about 18km all up distance from van and back to the van (we were about 1km from the trail head). You could do it in 3.5-4hours but i spent a fair bit of time out there and had a slower return. Moderate fitness is fine. The biggest issue is the weather which is fickle down that way generally. Regrettably there is no formed track all the way to the very tip, but i knew i was a only getting to the vantage point when I planned it. Oh, and tiger snakes that come out to find some fleeting sun…

@@Chance_It_Oz We don’t live that far from Cape Byron. But because of our delayed start we had to drive right past and head south. We will catch it when we get back east but yes all of the above!
