I know this video is a year old, and normally i don't comment on things that old. However, I will on this one, for specific reason. Do not glaze with turpentine, as it will cause any paint layer to be under bound. Also, do not leave a container of gum spirits of turpentine, open to the air, as it evaporates very quickly (much quicker than mineral spirits), and can pose a variety of health risks. Additionally, leaving a container of turpentine open to the air, will allow it to absorb oxygen, and thicken. When this happens, it becomes a sticky mess. I don't know if Odd Nerdrum does this stuff or not, but if he does, he should not. If he eats flake white oil paint, it doesn't mean I will, so yeah, rethink some of these things.
Hey Nic. Love these videos. Excuse my ignorance but i was wondering if straight turps and paint causes adhesion problems and lifting during varnishing? I glazed with a turp heavy mix once and the final varnish ripped the colour out of the piece in little bubbles. You obviously have more experience with this than me so i thought i would ask you. :)
Honestly… I’d research other ways to achieve this without using turpentine… possible thinning your paint using chalk powder in different port portions and scrubbing in… I’m not sold on the idea of using that much solvent and leaving an open container over night

I was wondering why he didn't use linseed oil instead of the turp 🤔 can that even be done ?
@@_marshy1899 I'm sure it can but would most likely depend on what the next step in process is. Was a little curious myself.
can I paint sfumato with linseed instead of turp?
if so, I would just need to mix it slightly opaque? maybe with some Ti White ??

scrapping is usually the first choice and then sanding next.@@kristoferolson1663
Bad practice bro, those fumes from turps are not safe . This is what killed Bob Ross , having a big bucket 🪣 of it exposed.
