If you are working on a budget and or don’t have gloves save your bread bags and then stick you hand in the bag to the end and grab you bearing and stab it in the grease and then get it good and greasy and then pull the bag over the bearing and work the grease in the bearing real good and then pull it back over and drop your bearing in and throw the bag away. 👍
Good tip 👍
Thank you for doing this video. Lots of people say disc are better than drum but until I actually see the side by side tests, it’s all opinions.
I have a video comparing them side by side. Disc 100% stops better than drum.

I don’t know what happened, I thought I left that comment on the video where you did the side by side comparison.
Mike must be proud of you for your videos.
Thanks! I hope they are helpful!
Awesome tutorial Seth! Definitely less involved than I was thinking it might be. Really appreciate you showing a close up of the area that needs to be ground on the knuckle.
Thanks! Yeah it’s not bad at all. You really don’t have to grind much at all. When everything is new it fits with no grinding. But as things wear the caliper will eventually rub that part of the knuckle. Once you grind and paint it you won’t ever think about it again! 👍
Getting ready to do the same thing to my 71 cj5 Dauntless.
Awesome! You’re going to love it!
Gonna do this upgrade this summer to my 3B. You make it look easy. Thanks, RT
Thanks! It’s not a difficult swap at all. You’ll be just fine! 👍 thanks for watching
Congratulations from Chile
Great How-To Seth. Looks like quality parts too. Nice cap.
Thanks Geoffrey! Yeah they sent a very nice Willys for me to try out 😉
Great video! Very nice upgrade!
Thanks!
This is an awesome project!! I am wondering how thick are the wheel spacers on this jeep and where did you get them? Thanks and keep up the great content.
1” spacers are more than enough for stock Willy’s wheels. That’s what I run. Amazon or eBay. $90 for a set of 4
Awesome job on the class teach..very well done !!
Thanks n C Ya on the next

This is a very good video !!!! Its a keeper for sure ,,,,,,,,,,
Thank you!
Great video, I like how you did it with simple tools to show how anyone can do it. Did the kit come with new studs and if so, were they all RH or both?
Thanks! I know some people who shy away from certain projects because Facebook has told them they don’t have the right tools! Most of the time that’s just not true. Yes, the kit comes with all new right hand studs. 👍
the middle washer is a lockwasher it should be bent over to stop the nuts coming loose and causing rapid bearing failure.
I don’t bend the washers over. Never had a problem. Saves a lot of time effort during service. They don’t come loose if properly torqued.
it's never a problem until it is. bending a lockwasher saves more time and money than replacing wheel bearings, hubs and spindle because the nuts wound themselves off in a minute and the bearings disintegrated.
you're better off bending one side inwards on the inside nut and prying one side outwards to lock the outer nut.
Great content!!!!
Thank you Bill!
Definitely a mod in the future for mine. Staying drum in the rear?
The rear has already been converted to disc 👍
Did you use the wheel spacers for the stock wheels??
I am using spacer. I run 1” but you can get away with much less.

Great videos but I am having a headache! Did the disks on the front of my 47 2a and am using my new stock MC. When my wife and I try to bleed the lines, the front calipers lock up and will not rotate until I release a bleeder screw a tiny bit. Seems as if no fluid is being returned back to the MC. I think (think) I removed the valve in the MC correctly but ????. One other Utube guy said that a stock MC works good with no modification. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks much!
Whether you use a stock or aftermarket mast cylinder you must remove the residual valve in the MC. 👍 in the stock mc it’s a little rubber diaphragm in front of the piston. In a dual master like the one in this video it’s inside the port. You must remove this with disc brakes. ua-cam.com/video/6HCUvON-etU/v-deo.html
Thanks so much and getting very good at removing and replacing a MC for about the 5th time! You can't believe how many tee shirts I have ruined with brake fluid!
Also compatible with Spanish (willys-viasa) cj3b? (Dana 25 on the front and Dana 44 on the rear)
That I do not know for sure. If it’s a Dana 25 it should work.
Thank you✌️
Would this disk brake system work on a 63 Jeep gladiator
If it’s a 6 bolt Dana 44 front axle it should fit.
cool mod !!!!
Thanks!
Are you still able to use the original brake pedal or does it have to be changed to a hanging pedal?
You don’t have to modify anything else. Your jeep can be completely stock with this setup 👍
Tengo un Jeep modelo 71 y me gustaría hacerle ese cambio de tambor a disco. Como los consigo soy de México. Y tengo dirección de usa.
Have you ever had a concern with wheel spacers? I'm looking to do this with my 53' 3B, it has 15" stock rims. Have known people who've snapped lugs using spacers. (Probably too big) Would this kit clear with 16" rims?
Wheel spacer are fine if installed properly. Watch some of my off road videos. We’re almost all running spacers. I’ve been beating on them for years. It’s a non issue. Also remember where dealing a 2000 pound jeep. Not some 600 hp dually. 😆 You will need some type of spacer to clear these big discs with stock wheels.
@@redeyecafegarage7484 Merry Christmas! Thanks so much for the input! Puts my Dad's concerns at ease XD. I see you run 1" spacers, is that on 15 or 16" rims? I see Kaiser only has 1.25" spacers. If I was to look for a 1" or less, what specs should I be looking for? I see many different types of 5x5.5 spacers. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I am using 15" rims.
Nice video. I installed the same kit on my 55 wagon with 15 inch rims and there is no way they will fit. Are your rims the 16inch from Kaiser? Did you have to do anything to make the caliper fit the rims?
I have stock 16’s with 1” spacers. If you want to avoid spacers. You must use 15” wheels from a later model cj5. From the late 70’s on they had disc brake fronts and those wheels fit fine without spacer. 15 and 16 I’m h wheels from drum brake Dana 25 and 27 will require spacers. It’s kinda just par for the course. I can assure you the improved braking and maintenance requirements are well worth the spacers. I get mine on Amazon. Set of 4 are $90. I have a used them off and on road for years with no issues and 1” spacers aren’t visually noticeable 👍
@@redeyecafegarage7484 being that I already did the conversion there is no going back to drums so thanks very much for the info. Very very helpful!
That should stop that little rotary powered beast much better.
