Young Marine Rachel Elmore Cuts Hair for Locks of Love

11-year-old Rachel Elmore from northwest Louisiana gets her hair cut for Locks of Love in front of more than 60 fellow Young Marines in Bossier City, La., April 15. Elmore is a lance corporal in the Bossier Sheriff Young Marines program and had 15 inches of her hair cut to be donated to disadvantaged children who've suffered hair loss. This is her second time in two years to donate her hair; in 2010, she donated 13 inches of her hair. Elmore was the honor graduate of Bossier Sheriff Young Marines Class 21 in May 2011 and epitomizes the Marine Corps value of service and helping those who can't help themselves.

Rachel was the only one on this day to cut her hair for Locks of Love. She actually planned it that way to be cut on her birthday during the Young Marines training. True SELFLESSNESS!

You might not even realize she is having her hair cut in front of more than 60 boys and girls aged 9-17 since it's so quiet. These Young Marines have been trained to sit still and be quiet when told, and their discipline is outstanding. Rachel is one of nearly 900 youth who've graduated as Bossier Sheriff Young Marines over the past 10 years. Her selflessness is just one trait they learn...they also learn teamwork, confidence and leadership. SEMPER FI!!!
