The reason Chester has that different flow is he has been around pre-Grime. He comes from UK Hip-Hop, which developed in the UK since the 80's directly from the New York East Coast sound. Grime developed later from the clubs and specifically, UK Garage music, and over the years the 2 forms have gradually come together to form what is now UK Rap. However, "UK Hip-Hop" still exists in its own right, with the likes of High Focus Records, RLD, etc keeping that heavy Boombap & East Coast sound alive with a British edge to it. Chester has been doing this since the 90's, I highly recommend checking out anything he has done with Mud Family, Task Force and his solo stuff. Maybe start off with his "Intro" from Task Force's impeccable "Voice of the Great Outdoors" album. You won't be disappointed.

Just wanted to let you know that in the UK some of us was raised on hiphop just like you in the states. I remember listening to the rock steady crew back in 1984 as a child and then beastie boys and run dmc when that wave hit. When Nas dropped Bbq that was my coming of age as a teenager. I think it's fair to say that we have been listening and developing for nearly 40 odd years. It's just that we are getting a lot more recognition now. God's Fire on a Summer night off MFTC vol 5 is one of my favorites, Farma goes off on that one. The outro track Another Day off MFTC vol 5 is another one. Fucking love that whole album.

Now grime rappers got more light and while their tunes can be catchy and create a vibe, they're not as good as the previous generation of emcees. Quality has taken a dip in UK hop hop but same in the USA.

The explanation is this. Chester P is a veteran HIP HOP artist who has been rapping since the late 80s. This is how all UK emcees used to rhyme, influenced as we were by the Hip Hop forefathers (Kool G Rap, BDK, Chuck D, Rakim etc). However, most of the UK rap that you hear these days has evolved, NOT from hip hop, but other genres such as Garage, Drum & Bass, Jungle, Dub Step etc, giving it a very different sound.
Chester p is from the uk council flats very similar to the nyc Council flats him and his brother farmer g make a duo called task force they have 5 albums called music from the corner 1-5 as well as a few ep's, task force rap about social issues in the UK usually around the poor and drug use etc, task force are legends of the UK hip hop scene
Chester P is one of the UK's finest. Part of the Task Force group with his brother Farma G and my all time fav UK Hip Hop crew. Check out any and all of their songs and you will not be disappointed. Yea boy, I remember seeing Chester live back in the day, he came out in a grim reaper robe with the hood up just nodding in the background, no one knew it was him until he threw it back and jumped into his verse, crowd went mental and started moshing. The best atmosphere of any hip hop gig I've been to. You've got a lot of good recommendations here mate, I'd put my vote towards Wiccaman Theory, Butterfly Concerto, Battlecats, and Chess Monster ✌️

@@kieranblack7883I'd guess there's probably quite a lot of rappers from around that era you don't know about, there were a lot of talented emcees in the UK around that time. Now grime rappers got more light and while their tunes can be catchy and create a vibe, they're not as good as the previous generation of emcees. Quality has taken a dip in UK hop hop but same in the USA.
almost a year late but i appreciate you listened to this, Chester P, is and always will be a legend in the UK hip hop scene. he's taken some time away from music to help people vulnerable people. i think he actually was a mental health nurse at one point. he's a good fella. i'd say listen to Jehst, Jam Baxter, the four owls, ralph rip shit, verb t, split prohphets and high focus records also.

The explanation is this. Chester P is a veteran HIP HOP artist who has been rapping since the late 80s. This is how all UK emcees used to rhyme, influenced as we were by the Hip Hop forefathers (Kool G Rap, BDK, Chuck D, Rakim etc). However, most of the UK rap that you hear these days has evolved, NOT from hip hop, but other genres such as Garage, Drum & Bass, Jungle, Dub Step etc, giving it a very different sound.

Chester P is one of the UK's finest. Part of the Task Force group with his brother Farma G and my all time fav UK Hip Hop crew. Check out any and all of their songs and you will not be disappointed. The MFTC albums are incredible (Music From The Corner)

I fear that you wont venture further as views will be low on chester because despite being one of the greatest poets ever, he never quite cracked it commercially due to the need for shit over substance in the industry, please dont deny yourself more of a listen. Yea boy, I remember seeing Chester live back in the day, he came out in a grim reaper robe with the hood up just nodding in the background, no one knew it was him until he threw it back and jumped into his verse, crowd went mental and started moshing. The best atmosphere of any hip hop gig I've been to. You've got a lot of good recommendations here mate, I'd put my vote towards Wiccaman Theory, Butterfly Concerto, Battlecats, and Chess Monster ✌️
