Woke is a small number of people trying to pretend they are the majority.
They most definitely are not the majority
But when they represent a demographic that is missing as consumers they are pandered to and that embeds into the culture. The Companies are obsessed with capturing that demographic for sales because the woke market consumes the company's products, not realizing that they are secondary consumers and steal the Nikes off the shelves or from a persons feet.... they are trying to get their welfare check to be spent on their products. These "woke" don't attend the football games or go to Disneyland as often because they spend their welfare on other things, have no friends to go with, and/or those activities are "beneath them" on the opposite end of the woke scale.

Unfortunately the late Stan Lee sold out toward the end of his life to all the woke antics. Won’t get into more detail as to why, but when his community told him to, he sold out, their greater agenda was more important than his own legacy.

God I love this story. The whole woke culture in the comic book industry has just discouraged me honestly. There is nothing wrong with being woke but the problem, is as reflected in real life, is when they push their narratives in such aggressive and distorted manner. You want more female, race and gender representation in comic book? Go and take the time to create new characters that reflect these. Start from the ground up and build momentum for them. They might not immediately be popular but some might. Don’t take already established characters and change them or replace them entirely. It’s incredibly annoying and will get people’s backs up so no matter how interesting the characters may be, no one will be in the mood to appreciate that.
One issue that really pissed me off is the plan to do a black Superman. Don’t get me wrong, I am black but the fact that Superman was white was never an issue for me. What he represented superseded race and culture. He was a symbol of strength and morality. Simple as that. If they can get it right with Captain America, then they sure as hell can get it right with Superman. I mean, they did before. If they go ahead with a black Superman, and it succeeds because of it novelty, they are going to go ahead with that character and forgo the original. Just because of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, they have abandoned Superman for so long. DC can learn lessons from Marvel Studio on this issue. Spider-Man lost its momentum at a point, but they never stopped trying until they again got it right with the Tom Holland movies. Fantastic Four has been badly made numerous times, but are they going t stop until they get it right? No.
Yes thank you! The race never mattered, so why go and make an awkward move by changing his entire race?? The reason most fictional characters in history have been white is only because it was mostly white people who got those big jobs to create these stories and characters.. and, people gravitate toward their own kind, of course. Just as black creators often use a majority of black characters. And it was white people who got those jobs because of who they knew, family members in the busines, their grandfathers, etc.. who were all white, eventually stemming back to the actual racism. Racism is the reason why there's so much white in media in the first place in comparison to black, but, Superman being white isn't in and of itself racist. It's just a by product. That's a bit like saying my mom is racist for giving birth to me, a white girl. I think poc are getting their voice back, and honestly it's going to take some time to see an organic catching up to the white stuff. There's a lot of white stuff out there.. but I think it'll happen maybe in our lifetime.
Also, yes I feel so strongly about the idea to just create new characters. That would be the most empowering (and logical) way to represent. Not just having some white guy's sloppy seconds.
Yea the other black Superman that makes sense is kal -el, the one from another earth but making Clark Kent black is absurd

As a seventy year old women I am so happy to see this. I LOVED the comic books of the 1950s because I love the male and female heros who, yes. Protected other people and stood up for truth, bravery, sacrifice and action. Where do you think all the marvelous first responders, soldiers. social workers, nurses, doctors, fathers, mothers and other heros or the last 60 years came from?
Honey, do you think 21 year old firemen, police and soldiers are readying 70 year old comic books? Their heroes are in the same comic books everyone else reads. Hopefully Rippaverse will join that tradition but it doesn't seem like it.

Many comics that aren't traditionally considered to be "woke" had a platform. That's not the problem. The problem is when it's an extreme platform that alienates average people for no good reason and does so in a ridiculously heavy-handed way that lacks subtlety and self-awareness.
The X-Men comics were an allegory for racism, with Professer X and Magneto as MLK and Malcom X respectively. But it was a good message and was told well.

A lot of comic book characters were made white guys by white guys. It’s not woke that 40-50 years later people are asking for more representation in comics. There are people all walks of life that would simply enjoy comics that aren’t 6/7 white people leading a team. Adding Trans super heroes are not apart of WOKE anything. It’s representative. Being Bi, is not a woke agenda, being a Strong Female Lead, is not propaganda.

Unfortunately, Paypal is playing games with the money given to this campaign and pretending that Eric July did something wrong. I already stopped using Paypal when they kept letting a scam company deduct money from my account after I asked them to help me, but to hold on to over a million dollars because they think buyers don't realize it's a pre-sale campaign is beyond ridiculous.

I haven't watched cable news in what feels like years and seeing this clip reminded me of why. Rushing guests to quickly get to the next talking point seems so disingenuous. I'm glad these networks are dying out and podcasts and long-form interviews are becoming the new norm.
Is this really a surprise? A comic that listens to what fans want and doesn't push an ideology at the cost of it's own quality should be successful.

Great comments man. I'm a black man who had been a marvel and DC comic book fan since the 70s. I stopped reading comics and watching superhero movies over the last five years when WOKEISM took over those companies. I am so glad for the Rippaverse. I have already bought the first edition and can't wait for more. Long live the Rippaverse.

Same here. I gave up on comic books too because of all the PC garbage DC and Marvel have been trying to shove down our throats for years. Hopefully, the success of this book and Top Gun will bring it back around to good old-fashioned story telling.

I'm not from US so i never read a comic book, and the last superhero movie I watched was Avengers Infinity War, was it woke too? I didn't notice or realize any woke stuff in there, as well as some other superhero movies prior
Suddenly I think that's one of the reasons I preferred Japanese manga or Korean manhwa.
At some point, with the exception of dragon Ball z and Naruto.
When they reach an ending of the story they end !the creator moves on to something new.
Comic books they are always going back in time, alternate reality, or just completely remaking it

I Remember when woke used to mean like “red-pilled, informed, and aware. It’s been co opted and turned into this catch-all for pc culture, and anything remotely resembling social justice.

These guys don't know Superman. Yes, originally it was truth, justice, and the American way. But while Clark Kent is American, Superman doesn't only protect America. When Superman gave up his American citizenship, it wasn't to spite America. It was because by being a global citizen, he intervene in countries that Americans are not allowed to go. He also didn't want to be a puppet of the American government.
Finally, comic book readers aren't only American. Every country reads Superman. Saying the "American" way is the only way is outdated. Other countries have the same values as America (if they didn't, we wouldn't be allies)

This really does ring true, how can u enjoy a fantasy comic when the writers are shoving there identity politics down ur throat & trying to preach to u? When i read manga i dont need to be represented, what i need is an amazing fantasy story where i can immerse myself in imagination, many of these corporate big houses dont care about entertainment, they waste there time preaching instead of telling a good story, its so sad what comic book industry has become, a far cry the golden years of the original stories, back in the day where they separated fantasy from reality the writers didnt have to walk on egg shells & had free creative reign.

They stopped making good cartoons like dragonball z. They dont want a nation of heroes wanting to rid the world of evil. Now cartoons focus on pushing their agendas, and confusing kids sexuality.
This sounds like just the ticket for introducing my grandkids to comic books versus the stuff they're putting out today. I have limited ability to try to get them to avoid Marvel, DC and Disney because their mother allows it, but I can do my part.
Get them into sport target practice. It's a talent and boys love it.
