  • This is an unboxing video. Not a review! I had some credit at TackleDirect, so I was able to get it for slightly less than retail.
It's making noise that's unpleasant, but I am not sure if it's an issue or not. I'll find out when I start using it.

Had my 6000 for over a year and tried it last Sunday. No complaints. It works really smooth. Going for the 4000 soon.

I just bought a SaltX 6000 and a Saragosa 8000 and have to tell you the SaltX is quieter and smoother than the Saragosa. And actually exceeds the Saragosa's line capacity.

Until I can find a replacement knob AND it's proven itself for a few more years, I'm sticking with Van Staal. If all goes well with it over the next few years and I can get some hope of finding parts online, I'm passing for a bran that's been tried and proven for decades. I have no problem at all finding Van Staal parts should I need something. The SaltX does indeed look promising. Let us know how you feel about it a year or so later.

Try a VR instead of the VSX. Maybe you will like it. I think the staals are better but that’s me. Do you like the slammer or saragosa more?

You should use 30lb braid instead. No need for 40lb with stripers. The line will cast further and much better. You only need 20 to 25lb mono backing.

Agreed. I’ve gone lighter since then. 25lb mono backing and 30lb test is what I use now!

Run the line through a heavy book from the spool to the reel

I use a 4000 reel with 30 lb braid caught a 44 inch 50 inch and 45 inch with no problems

Taylor Prattson Nice! I tend to use more drag to pull them in quicker so they are not exhausted. Also, it might be that my PowerPro braid batch was bad, because I had a whole lot of line breaks and thought I needed to go heavier.

I have a saragosa 6000 thinking ab going to a salt x 6k is it bigger is size ? Also what do u think ab that?

Unfortunately, I don't have a gosa 6k. Just SaltX 6k and Slammer III 6500. I would def go with SaltX if you are going to be wading. It's light and strong and I love it.

Frankie Dragotto Yup it was. Probably because of the sealing.

Hahah still using it in 2023. It’s just a ritual and I only got to see backing once while fishing when I got spooled by a jet ski. For me, there’s nothing bad about it 😂Tight lines!
