  • Alanna Raben talks to filmmaker Omar Rodriguez-Lopez about his new film "Los Chidos" and touches on the At The Drive-In reunion. Shot in Austin, TX at the Driskill Hotel during SXSW 2012. Sorry about the audio, lost my windscreen earlier that week during sxsw. It's more about what he's saying than how it sounds though :)

    I don't know if it's the metaphorical "come down" that he's implemented into his life but, this is the most human interview I have ever seen him do. It's so inspiring to have great artists like Cedric & Omar sort of be born before your eyes every time you engage them.

    Omar is so great. His eloquent intellect, along with his use of the english language surpasses even professors, yet he is self taught. And english is his SENCOND language. but god damn, he needs to call me.

    Human existence in general, his life.... is a independent product, dependent on the natures form, bounded with its reflective sides. For example, like a book, or any other product,... and during this bit, human over goes horizons in an infinite way, as he lives and perceives; and then it ends, and a life of a human being cuts off. Human is aware of his restrictions,... and he is not afraid of reaching his last breath in the structure of the book, matrix. The point of this.... is not fear, but the development from these formal nature restrictions. It is advisable to create not one, but many forms of these divisions, as many "books" as possible, while you live, for them to lose their power of myth for a human being, and then a human can extract from himself, the alien which is bored with a human view on life. Existing in a duality format, limit, human must use it to get out. Make a resolution about and from this transparent dual medulla. Bias of human life is ubiquitous.

    omar somewhat agreeing with that one statement that all men are rapists is bullshit. That was aggrevating to hear. I think he just says stuff like that to gain girls trust to maybe get with them, like his singer. Its an angle i accidentally worked years ago and decided it was bullshit. the whole "OOO look how much i dont like racism and sexism". Well, most people don;t like those things. Not being racist or sexist isn't a competition. Good for him that he is neither, but whatever

    • @Gollas4k
      @Gollas4k 3 роки тому +5

      that's not the statement he made... it was about "every man is a potential rapist", which is completely true, just like every woman is a potential rapist and every human is a potential mass murderer... it's a vague general statement that on the Surface seems to have radical implications to catch people's attention... you gotta listen, people

      @@Gollas4k i can make the radical statement that the sky is brown but it doesnt make the statement true and in fact, most people will dismiss the other things I have to say due to the ridiculous nature of my initial statement.

      I agree. I’ve heard a few different interviews from Omar. He says things like they are absolute truths, but he fails to (or doesn’t care) to see things from different perspectives. His punk roots might expose him to certain types of ideologies (and rightfully so) but he really needs to see the larger picture and other ways of thinking rather than what he’s used to.

    His intellect is entirely pretentious and incongruous with his actions and the way he's treated people. Yes he "smart" in that he's emotional, creative and has a fairly high verbal IQ but it's also important to him that know he's smart. He really needs to examine the world less and himself more.

      @@gonerkid I’m guessing this person is talking about the way he’s dealt with band members over the years. People like to paint him as the “bad guy” in those situations but in reality there’s a lot more nuance to it than that.
