    Agree that this is one of the best videos for this job ... all the steps A to Z as many have said. Just finished replacing mine and here is what I learned. First, I did the passenger side first so the 10 o'clock, 4 o'clock references are different than driver side as seen in the video. No big deal -just get a flashlight so you can see the three tabs of which two are the same size and one is a bit smaller and line them up with the receptacle accordingly (both sides are removed counter-clockwise and installed with a clockwise movement as mentioned in the video. Second, in a 9 yr old Tundra that has spent it life in Texas, trying to carefully remove the plastic rivets is guaranteed to cause them all to break. I went by a local O'Reilley's auto parts store and found that the ~8mm "Dorman GM Push Pane Retainter (962-021D)l" rivets work well in a pinch for the first two rivets that are removed in the video. Unfortunately, they only come two to a box so I would need to make another trip to buy two more for $3.99+tax. Just go get this : www.amazon.com/GOOACC-Retainer-Plastic-Fasteners-Chrysler/dp/B07L6FJGR4/ is my next step. My new lights (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCM2KCM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) are installed and working great and my driver's side fender splash shield is reinstalled. I'll get the passenger side splash guard back in when I get some more rivets.

The dealership spotted my left fog light being out today while they were doing an inspection during an oil change (I can't buy the oil for what the dealership charges, let alone the filter and taking the time to do it). They want over $90 to change a $20 bulb. Big lolno from me on that one. I'll do it myself.

    I agree with every positive comment. The way you took off the first clip without tearing it was a result of using the tool properly. You inserted the tool in such a way to depress the clips locking mechanism, (See 0:55). Another way is to use a pick in the small hole to pry the clips locking mechanism. Thanks for all the links but so many times links change. Best to use Toyota part numbers like in the links description. I just did my '07 and this video was very helpful. However, the plastic panel is anchored to the truck very differently for that model year.
    I ended up removing 5 snaps and 4 screws, (the 5th was unessesary) plus a lot of frustrated prying at the bumper and the panel above with a plastic trim tool to get at the light. To top it all off, they used 3 very different types of snaps to hold down one little panel. It looks like Toyota went overkill with the redundancy of attachment points in the first year and toned things down in '08. Of those 5, one was already partially broken and I completely destroyed another, yet everything is still pretty secure. I imagine a lot of mechanics were rightfully complaining.
    But underneath that plastic ft. knox was the same exact fog light assembly and that's where your video came in handy again.
    So fyi to '07 owners, buy 2 plastic trim removal tools, remove the lower 2 snaps from the upper plastic panel in addition to the obvious ones and that funny one in the back like in the video. Use the trim tool to keep the protruding plastic bit towards the middle front of the truck from popping back down and use another to gently work the panel out from the bumper and the upper panel. The whole thing will probably come springing out at you if you do it right.

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  2 роки тому

      That’s really odd. Mine is an 07 also. Maybe they changed it up in the middle of the model year. I’m glad you got it figured out though!

    • @blazertundra
      @blazertundra 2 роки тому

      @@TightWadDIY That is possible. Mine had some very unusual lower engine seals that were failing at 160k miles that really confused my mechanic. He specializes in Toyotas and knows Tundras like the back of his hand and never had that specific repair come through. It could be that I have one of the first 2nd gens built in '07.
