In the 60s when I was a kid, my mom would take us to downtown Dayton to go shopping. She liked shopping at Rikes department store. Then we would have lunch at a diner. Get a hamburger and chocolate milk. I loved it!
Was the restaurant called the Purple Cow? My mom also would take me shopping with her to Rikes, then lunch and a movie at Lowes next to Rikes. Nice city back then. Even in those days we knew better than to drive west on 3rd st
Wow it seems like Dayton Cleveland Cincinnati have so many OLD looking homes- I’m from the Midwest too- Milwaukee WI- but Sha bamn- we have way better looking homes- we have a small ghetto that has older homes- but after that- our homes are open nice and well kept- no closed in porches which I can imagine can be depressing in itself and no slums with projects for miles on end no ma’am- but I will say some homes in west Ohio or would be more like Milwaukee but baby this has truly been a culture shock 😂
That's interesting! The Midwest takes up a very large chunk of land, so I'm not too surprised to hear some of the ghettos appear different, but I did initially think Milkwaukee would ga e some similarities to Ohio cities. I have to get out to Wisconsin someday soon.
@@infinite.destinations You sure do- Milwaukee is a great city off the shores of Lake Michigan good culture kind ppl- we get some unwanted influence from Chicago folks moving up here to escape their city- but overall Milwaukee is a nice clean city- the old side is the (north side) - from Capitol Dr on north it’s pretty decent and west of 60th and Capitol gets nicer the further west you go- the better it gets- we definitely welcome you 🥰
Walk it at night lol. I grew up here. Still live here. Walked Main St. at night through Five Oaks etc. Couple of times from the Montgomery County Jail had to make that walk all the way to Shilo. Outsiders ccant handle it. I call Dayton "lil Detroit" lol. Born and raised, you get used to it.
Cool video!! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks a lot!

Nice! I wonder if that store still exists.

Theres a really nice museum of natural history in Dayton. We went on a school field trip in the 60s when I was a kid.
I love museums, I wish I knew about that one while I was there.
Dayton is my birthplace. I was born at WPAFB, in 1956.😊
👍😁
No McCooks book store?
What neighborhood is that in?
Il campo da basket in mezzo alla strada è il top
👍
Are there any people? I grewup not far from Dayton. Was born at WPAFB in 1956.
Usually there is. That was filmed on a week day.
What county in ohio ?
Montgomery County
I used to live on catalpa dr 35 years ago
Oh wow, I bet a lot has changed.
Lots of run down buildings. Not that many people out tho
True
That's the way it is in this dying armpit.
I use to live in Dayton but I had to move out because of some problems and there's nothing to do in Dayton anymore.
Understandable
They had some really good restaurants but the hood robbed them into closing including a couple of murders.
What a shame.
❤❤❤
👌
I love Dayton and Xenia Ohio!
Thanks for watching!
Please do you live at Dayton?
I grewup in Fairborn, Ohio in late 50s, 60s, and early 70s. I loved it there. Had lots of fun and good friends.😊
I like driving in the hood late at nigjt.
👍
West Dayton has really died out. Too many people dying out there these days 😢
Hate to hear it smh.
It's been bad there for many years. Worst part of Dayton.

I'm definitely looking forward to a Wisconsin trip one day 👍
I hope your suspension holds up.
It did somehow 😂
@@infinite.destinations 4x4 ?😂
Believe it or not, I ride around in a newer sedan 😂
Not really a lot of restaurants, looks like.
Not in the hood
Restaurants in the hood would be robbed all the time.
Exactly.
Drive it at night.
Next time I'm back there

Walking there at night is a little crazy 😂
È pieno di gente
👍
Video quality is just too bad.
It's shot in 4K 60fps 😂 turn it on 4K on your UA-cam, or get a better screen or device to watch it on 🤷♂️
