The Camino is a long walk… it’s the first tentative step… a backpack and a pair of shoes… a top bunk and a bottom bunk… a flat path that stretches to the horizon… a cerveza at the end of the day… second breakfast… soulmates you’ve only known for five minutes… it’s a cathedral with towers that shine like beacons.
This is the Camino. What did I miss? What is your Camino? Tell me in the comments below!

A very dear friend of mine, who’d done everything from caring for sled dogs, to being a ski instructor, to Everest, and a million things in between. She was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. She’d planned to make this her last trip, but passed before she could do it. I’m going to do it next year, in her memory
How is it going ?
I was told by a volunteer during the coffee session after the morning mass at the Camino Office Chapel that you can walk the Camino and request that her name to be put on the Compostela instead of your own name. Buen Camino.
@@MalinkySVK honestly mate, not V good. Another year that hasn’t been great. Lacking fitness, lacking finances. I *will* get there, though. I promise Jacquie that much.
@@wwtam892 I had no idea you could do that, thank you! I’ve failed Jacquie this year, but I don’t plan on doing it again.
@@nicks3350 dont worry about the fitness my boy, I came there with 0 preparation, 0 research, I just happened to be in Porto so I was like might as well do caminho to santiago. I Know Portuguese is shorter one but was amazing experience and its pretty easy fitness vise. Good luck !
"you are exactly where you need to be" perfect description of the camino
What can I say. As my husband and I watched, the tears came. You have perfectly summed up what the Camino is. Of all the MANY videos we have watched, when family and friends ask us "why do you keep walking the Camino," THIS is the video we will show them. Beautifully done. Heartfelt thanks.
I guess. I thought it was a pilgrimage, not just a backpacking trail. I don’t think it’s disrespectful as such it’s just tone deaf. Don’t trivialize it. As much as we live in a religion neutral world I think it’s important to acknowledge traditions that are explicitly religious. This is NOT just a place to experience nature and camaraderie. It’s a faith journey. The fact you waited until the last 20 seconds to acknowledge that disappointed me. And even so you barely mentioned that the destination was in fact a church.
I'd like to draw your attention to the inescapable and undeniable fact that you're a great writer. Your words evoke emotion and inspire. Thank you.
Thank you Corwyn, this comment made me smile from ear to ear. I really love to write, and for a long time I've been thinking about how to combine words and images and videos... so this was a first attempt!
@@NadineWalks It was wonderfully done. I got goose flesh listening to you talk about the Camino in this video. I've read your blog and it's abundantly clear that you're honest and love what you write about. I'm Joseph, Not Corwyn. Corwyn and O'Neil are my sons middle names. :D
Don’t let it be your last Nadine. You have awakened the dream to do it all again. Thank you.
You are such a gifted writer and videographer! Thank you for your beautiful work. This is your calling, Nadine.
This literally brought tears to my eyes. It IS the camino. When you get back home, your friends won't understand. To them it was just a really long painful vacation. We pilgrims know; it's a journey. One that starts with the first step, but never really ends. I can be ready to go in an hour...
You're so right, it never ends...
I used to be a fan of the Camino de Santiago journey.
but now I am a fan of your poetic description of the journey and your angelic smile.
YOU MADE MY DAY. THANK YOU.
Thank you so much, I'm so glad that you enjoyed this video!
I've watched a lot of Camino videos over the years and that is possibly my favourite ever. Beautiful video and really slick editing and your narration is just lovely. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much Richard, this means a lot :)
I agree. Thank you so much. Your journey is such an inspiration.
Walked the Camino 2010 and again half-way 6 years ago. What a magic narration. I related, I was lifted, I was taken back, I am now dreaming of doing it all again. Thank you.
This made me cry. What a beautiful way to summarize the epic journey that is the camino. I walked del norte in 2017 and I can't wait to do it again. Thank you for reminding me of some of the best memories of my life.
Thank you for this comment (and the Norte is one of my favorites- that's a route I can keep going back and back to!)
Wow... maybe, the best Camino video I have seen. And I have watched many. Wonderful.
I have been home a month from my solo Frances and I watch this video once a week…tears of joy..thank you Nadine!
Sometimes the transition home after a Camino can be hard, and I'm so glad that this video might be (in some small way), helping. Buen Camino!
I was supposed to hike the camino in 2020 with a priest friend of mine. 2 weeks after I bought the plane ticket, Covid shut down the whole world and our plans were cancelled. It felt like our dream died and we moved on with our lives, but just this last week we've decided to start planning our hike for 2024. Your video just brought tears to my eyes and cemented in my mind that nothing on earth can stop us from hiking the Camino. Thank you!
how's it going?
I walked the Camino Frances in 2022 and again last year.
Thanks for your beautiful film Nadine.
There are two Caminos, one external and one internal. The external one reaches its destination, the internal one never does.
A year ago (the day after Labour Day in Canada), I left home to walk the Camino Frances. When I finished that incredible journey 40 days after I left SJPdP, I cried a lot ... for months: For what I'd been through, how grateful I was, how hard it had been, how sorry I was it was over, the awesome people who made that journey all that it could have possibly been, and so much more. When people asked me about, I'd start to try to tell them something and inevitably break down in tears: There were simply no words to possibly describe it. But you found them! And I cried when reading them. Great piece of work, Nadine!
Thank you for such a kind and generous comment... I know there are things I couldn't possibly manage to include in a short video (and definitely things I forgot!), but it personally felt like so many of the things I said and showed made up the essence of my Camino. It's really an experience like no other! I feel so grateful to have found it.
How nice to have a you tube channel that really touches people, a narrator with obviously a lot of soul, desire to spread her life with people she doesn't know. You are a wonderful young lady Nadine. Thank you
Thank you so much, Dave, for this very kind comment. One reason I write, take photos/videos, etc, is for me (and my memories)... but a big part is so that what I make can find its way to the people it's meant to find.
You made me cry again, but then you know pilgrims are an emotional bunch! You said it all so well. Thank you.
Thank you for leaving a comment, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video! (sorry to make you cry, but yes, sometimes these are happy, emotional pilgrim tears!)
As someone who did the Camino Frances in 2016 at age 65, your summary is inspiring, accurate, and all inclusive. Your narration skills are superb!
I did it in 2016 at age 67. This summary is exactly my experience too.
@@lynmcs8861how hard was it?
@@chompers11 It was a conglomeration of feelings: hard, easy, enjoyment, tiredness, ecstacy, beauty, frienddhip, and every other fabulous experience that lasts for a lifetime of memories
Dear Nadine, I have watched this video several times since you posted it a year and a half ago. I watched it before my daughter and I walked the Frances in the spring of 2023. I have watched it several times since. It gets me every time, and I'm sure it will get me again every time I watch it in the future. It is beautiful. It is poetry. It is true to the Camino. Thank you!
This may sound odd. But every time I revisit the thought of doing the Camino, I feel like the Lord is talking to me. Tell me "Do it!" It seems like an overwhelming endeavor to take on. Something as easy as placing one foot in front of the other...Perhaps, one day I'll do it.
'The camino never ends', so true, thanks.
I can't stop listening to your soothing voice...I am so inspired. thank you! Can't wait to put my best foot forward at 70 yrs old!
That's so kind of you to say, and I hope I can be like you one day, and still be walking in my 70s! For me, THAT is so inspiring.
A poem, a journey, an end, a beginning, of life, of appreciation, of joy, accepting pain, death and re-birth. Thank you for sharing it. Lv aaa
I did it ten years ago and i remember it like it was yesterday. It’s magic …. Magic that you’ll not soon forget.
Yes! My first Camino was in 2014 and in many ways, my memories of that one are the strongest.
You write with so much heart. I could say this video is the point where I said “I am called to walk the Camino.” Thank you!❤️
Oh what an honor to read this comment, and you're so very welcome!
Nadine, you have truly won….there has been no better short intro to Camino. I’ve been using a movie trailer for years to introduce Camino to my groups. No longer, this has captured the heart of The Way. Bravo!!
No greater compliment than this, Jeremiah!
Made me cry watching this. Superbly done and beautifully described.
You are so right. The Camino never ends. I walked it already three times and I will di it again and again....
I have walked the camino Frances twice and the camino de Levante from Valencia once. In just 6 minutes this video says it all, evokes so many memories and pulls so many heart strings. Thank you!
I'm so glad that it brings back so many memories for you!
A heartfelt thank you for this....... you take me back there ......❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! After finishing my fourth Camino, I feel that you embraced it in the video...
Nadine, I nearly cried. This has to be THE best Camino video I have ever seen. A wonderful compilation and so much to look forward to. Thank you.
Oh thank you Vic, I'm so happy you enjoyed it. Have you walked a Camino yet, or are you planning to?
@@NadineWalks i am planning to walk The French Way in the summer of 2024 and I'm very excited already! I've started learning Spanish....think I'm a bit obsessed!
This was the inspiration I needed to make this happen for my 50th birthday in just over two years. Planning starts now. Thank you. I want this experience!
Thank you for this wonderful summation. It is hard to add to the positive comments previously stated. Well done! May God continue to bless you on your walk through life.
Thank you so much, Marc!
Recently finished my second Camino, this 6 minutes of video captures the beauty & glory, and the reality of a walk to Santiago! Thank you.
I'm so glad you thought so! Thank you so much :)
@@NadineWalks How many different routes have you done? I'll be doing the Portugues in the spring of 2023, but am interested in some of the more obscure routes.
What a beautiful video of the camino. I'm going back this summer. It brought tears of joy.
Watching this and crying, so beautiful and stunning. Walked my first Camino last summer and this summer going for second, this video shows all the beauty, this is Camino, this is life. Thank you ❤️
Thank you so much, I'm happy that you found the video and connected to it. Where will you walk for your second Camino?
@@NadineWalks I would like to walk Camino del Norte and then conect to Primitivo from Oviedo. Some people sugest me to walk them separately, but I would like to combine ocean and that old Way. I know you walk both version, how would you compare it? And what is more interesting to you, second part of Norte or Primitivo?
Also, Primitivo has better choice and cheaper facilities, I guess, so would like to save some money also :) maybe one day will pass Norte from Gijon to Santiago :) thank you for answer.
So good … the Camino is such a grand contradiction and you have captured the essence of it in six minutes. Amazing.
Thank you Scott, I know I missed a lot but I tried to capture it as best as I could!
I love this! Perfectly describes what is so hard to describe to those who've not walked. Thank you!
Thank you Laura!
So so so well said about the spirit of the camino, loved it, just loved it!
Thank you so much, I tried to capture the spirit with this video!
@@NadineWalks U did
Excellent. You have managed to capture the dichotomy of the Camino. The sense of isolation and continuity with a millennia of those that went before. The wonderful solitude and space and the people. Some just eye contact and a Buen Camino and some who become fast friends. Thank you.
Thank you John, it was a beautiful experience to put this video (and the words!) together!
I shed a tear thinking back to my Camino…thanks Natalie
Same here
I shed a tear when I finished making this, too!
God Bless You----I have been on the Camino twice. Nothing else I have said or done has summed the experience up better than you have done in this video
That was incredible inspiering. Thank you for that - there is no better day to describe the Camino.
This is a great edit. I begin my Camino in three weeks. I will share this edit with those whom I tell about the trip I’m going on. Buen Camino
Great message. My wife and I have walked 6 caminos and never get tired of the experience that you have capturei in your video. Brian and Jenny
6 Caminos, that's great!! Do you have plans to walk any more?
I watched with tears as I prepare for my second Camino... You captured it perfectly! Buen Camino hermosa peregrina & happy trailz!
Thank you Nadine. I need you to do another Camino asap. Watching your regular videos every few days has become part of my daily routine ( a high spot). I hope I will be somewhere on the trail next May/June . Fingers crossed.
I think I need to do another Camino asap, too!! Ha! I'm so happy that my videos became part of your daily routine, that really means a lot (and, don't worry! There are a few more daily vlogs to come!! I took a little break to put this video together, but I had a little more walking to do after Santiago this summer, so more videos to come soon!)
@@NadineWalks YAY! Will stay tuned.
Poetry and emotion in motion, very beautiful.
Beautiful, Nadine! The Camino starts in your heart and it never ends! Thanks for sharing!
Yes, it starts in the heart and then it gets stuck there :)
I loved this video.....the Camino is calling to me......this made me cry
This is poetry in motion, just like the Camino.
Yes, the Camino really IS poetry in motion!
This is simply one of the best dialogues I've ever listened to on UA-cam. Whether you planned to or not, the use of universal statements to pull in everything and everyone, really drew me into feeling what is and what could be. Top shelf.
I'm so happy you felt this way; I love to write so a lot of it just poured out, though I did try to think about not only my own Camino experience, but the different aspects that many might have on the journey.
Thank You Nadine !! One of the best video of the Camino... with simplicity, authenticity and love. Bless you
I leave in a week for the Camino Frances. When people ask me why; my first response is to tell them that I'm searching for healing from an unexpected turn in my life. But when they really want to understand... I send them your video. In six minutes, you capture the hope, the fears, the joy and the belief that there truly is magic in this journey. Thank you for taking the time to capture it all so beautifully. Buen Camino.
You captured the Camino so beautifully. I shed tears watching it as I walked Frances that year and walking Porto next month. Funny how I miss the albergues and hand washing my clothes hoping they would be dry by the morning. Thank you. I’ve shared this with many as I get get choked up when someone asks me about the Camino. So many incredible experiences and the Camino in forever in me.
Thank you Nadine. God bless you and your heart and your many caminos.
You put it just perfect and only those of us who have walked El Camino understand your poem. Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to go back🇫🇷🇪🇸🇵🇹🥾
I love watching this video when I long to be on the Camino. I did the Frances this past July to Finesterre and miss it everyday. Watching this video puts me at easy and brings a smile to my face
Nobody has ever captured the Camino as well as you have in this video. I recognise and am moved by almost everything you mentioned (especially the pigeon in the morning!!). Thank you, you have made me want to walk it again, something I thought would never happen. You are blessed, and you have blessed us.
Thank you so much Gary, I'm so happy that you could resonate with so much of this (I love the call of the pigeons in the morning, one of my favorite things!) I hope that you are able to walk again :)
I cried through this whole video. Bravo Nadine!!!
One of the best Camino bloggers on youtube! Thanks for all your videos Nadine, they are brilliant!!
So kind of you to say!! You're very welcome :)
I walked the del Norte and Ingles in May and June of 2022, and can say this is a very beautiful description of the Camino experience.
This was incredibly moving. Thank you.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it!
Beautiful, both moving and inspirational. Your videos are always excellent, this one is one of the best.
Oh thank you Dylan, I really loved putting this one together :)
Hey it's Erin. Oh Nadine! This was beyond incredible! The best description I have heard to date. Your version is so inclusive of making it your own Camino instead of the judgments and opinions of those who feel it fits within a framework of definition. Thank you.
Thanks Erin, over the years I've really learned that there are so many ways to walk the Camino (and, indeed, I feel like I've done it just about every way at this point!). The Camino is truly your own, and I was hoping that would come across (a bit) in this video :)
Six minutes of narrative but you said it all what needs to be said with photos and short videos to supplement your journey. You are such a gifted person to describe your experience. Your choice of scenes , the sound of the winds, the smell of the kitchen and the peculiar smell of the albuergues Mae me re-live my experience... Thank you for sharing.
Love, love, love. From your fellow traveler, I send you greetings from the never-ending Appalachian Trail.
Not just the Camino that never ends :) Lots of love, Sean!
What a beautiful and honest account of all the Camino has to offer, plus the magic.
Thank you Nadine
You're very welcome, Christine, this was a fun video to make (though had me a bit emotional by the end!)
Beautiful video. You captured the spirit of the Camino perfectly. The comment about the 7 second shower was just spot on.
I am now 2 weeks into the Camino del Norte (my second camino). I started in Irun and planning for getting to Gijon within one week where I unfortunatly need to stop. Today I was thinking of this video again. I watched this video several times and it makes me cry everytime. Such a wonderfull summery of what the camino is all about. Thankyou for making this video❤.
I'm 25 years old man from a village with no budget and travelling dreaming of adventure across the world . Camino de Santiago was one of my bucket list to walk for almost a long time because I got inspired by watching other Pilgrim walk it.. Hope one day I would walk it and if not I will share it with my children about it..
You need to do it. You do t need a big budget. Walking doesn’t cost much. You can do it! It’s an amazing experience!
Lovely. Just so lovely... Can't wait to go again! Thanks for this lovely video.
You're welcome, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it!
Watching your video brought back many memories of my walk, undertaken in 2000. What took place for me on my walk was all of what you describe here and more. Had numerous adventures, and blisters, it was here I made a lot of friends in addition to the woman I was to marry and move to France to be with. I cannot even imagine what my life would have been like had I not left my comfort zone back in California. Thanks for posting your video.
What a life-changing journey you had! I've always wondered what the Camino experience would have been like when it wasn't well-traveled (I had a couple of friends walk in 2002, and in some ways our experiences were very similar- in the essential ways, I think- but in other ways very different!)
I have now seen this video 20 times. Since the first time I opened it I now have plans for my trip. I will be taking my first step on March 20th so I can attend mass on Easter Day. Thank you for the 60-year old from NYC!
Thank you. I wish I had done this when I had the energy. I love that people like you follow your heart. Take an adventure and live your life.
Beautifully done! Lovely scenery, narration and vibes!!
Well done, you are truly inspiring!!
I'm so glad that you enjoyed it!
Beautifully done. I hiked in 2017 and always appreciate a loving reminder.
I finished my Camino Frances 3 weeks ago. Your video sums up the experience so well. Thank you for posting
Nadine, what a beautiful tribute to the reality and spirit of the Camino…. Thanks for creating and sharing it. 😎❤️🥾
Thanks Mary Ann, it was so much fun to make!
Thanks for the video! If I do the Camino, I'll probably buy or rent a bicycle. You can cover twice the distance each day and be less tired. That's still slow enough to take in what the Camino has to offer, and you can still meet hikers at the cafes and inns. You can't bike, for example, the Pacific Crest Trail, but the Camino is very bikeable.
Yes, most of the Camino (especially the Camino Francés) is bike-able, and I think a great way to do the pilgrimage! Plus, even though the encounters were fleeting, I've had some really nice moments with people who were biking the Camino (so the possibility for connection is definitely there, it's just a little different than if you were walking!)
Wow. That sums things up beautifully. Thank you 🙏🏾
Thank you Alan, I'm glad that you enjoyed it!
Absolutely a fantastic video Nadine! Love your videos. ❤
Congratulations for doing the Camino de Santiago and sharing your experiences with us. This video in particular is excellent, you are an excellent story teller. I have enjoyed all your stages of the Camino with you as if I was walking with you. Thank you.
Thank you so much, I've really loved sharing my journey here (there are a few more videos from my summer walk to come, so stay tuned!)
A simple & easy to follow video about the Camino that gets the point across very well.
I hope to make my pilgrimage in 2024 just after I turn 60.
Thank you for sharing your own journey with us.
Absolutely love this. I am hoping to do this next year. But who knows. God willing…
i walked the camino frances in 2015, and the Portuguese route from lisboa, and then central from porto, last year in 2023. i leave to walk the litoral route in portugal in less than two weeks. i can attest that every emotion this young lady expressed in this short video is absolutely spot on. the experience of sitting for a meal in hontanas, 13 people from 9 different countries, red wine flowing and laughter abundant...one of the greatest experiences of a life blessed with many others. walk it, and it will change your life.
Perfect❣️ Just walked two unforgettably beautiful and challenging weeks of ‘Buen Camino’🙏
Bravo, Nadine!! So well done. I love your words.
Tears of longing welled in my eyes, waves of nostalgia coursed through my body and glorious memories flashed across my mind. Thanks Nadine.✌️❤️🙏🇦🇺
All of that happened to me, too, as I was making this!
Hi Nadine! I'm Nico from Italy! I met you in Granon! Nice video! good vibes! the cammino is a unique experience! the cammino is life! Buen camino Nadine! ¡buena vida!
Hi Nico!! I remember you! :) (and maybe you saw yourself for a moment in one of the clips in this video!) I hope you had a wonderful rest of your walk to Santiago!
@@NadineWalks yes, after Fisterra I walked up to Porto... so much loneliness because I was walking backwards and therefore alone.. but it's part of the cammino.... now I can't wait to leave again!
Nadine you captured perfectly what the Camino means. The best presentation of it I’ve seen, thank you. You almost make me want to go and do another one. I’ve done the Camino Frances twice, the Camino del Norte/Primitivo & recently the Camino de Madrid through to SdC. Four in total. I’m now 73 and probably not likely to do another. I really enjoyed watching this.❤
What a beautiful video.
Goosebumps
Thank you Deb, I loved making the video and am so happy that others are enjoying it!
Nadine, well said, well done! One of the better videos I have seen lately on the Camino. Sums it pretty much in six minutes, you have a lot of soul, thanks!
Love, love, love this video! Thanks for posting
Thanks Mimi, I was so happy to make this and share it!
This is Camino magic. Sensational ❤️ Thank you
What a beautiful description!!
Beautiful postcard, Nadine. I smiled for the full 5:48 minutes.
Poetry...pure poetry.
This is the most short Camino´s video i never watched. Congratulations. The shoes in the window I took a lot of pics in my Caminos. Buen Camino and have an happy life.
Thank you so much- I loved that image of all the shoes!!
What a beautiful description of the Camino, Poetic, lovely video
Hi! It's just the way I've felt when I followed the Camino last June. Thank you so much for your words.
You're very welcome, I'm so happy you could see some of your own experience in this!
